On a minor storyline point, if you actually read G1 Megatron's and G1 Galvatron's respective Tech Specs, they are very clearly different characters, even in the UK toy continuity.

That's cuz they wanted to hide the toy's identity as Megatron to keep the Megatron-to-Galvatron change in the G1 movie a secret.
