Okay the backpack/kibble doesn't look TOO bad. I think it might need to lock in better (may not be able to at the prototype stage) as it looks a little heavy and is pulling him backwards (or it could just be bad posing).

The one thing I don't like is the spoiler wings being so far behind, I'd prefer them closer to the rest of the body.

A) Fishing rod is awesome

B) Backpack isn't that bad, but I agree with Burn: spoiler needs to be closer to the robot.

C) Dang, he needs to find a transformation scheme and stick with it!

Same here. I do love how it looks though, and am perfectly happy with it.

This looks like an awesome rendition of the toon Rodimus.

I really am hoping that the recent trends in Takara MPs get followed here and we see alternate "also Hot Rod" color schemes.

Marvel Comics (dark magenta, no chest accent, orange hands, silver legs) would fit in well with the G2 Sideswipe they did (and a G2 faction logo would make it Marvel G2 Hot Rod).

The Fleetway color I showed was Dreamwave art based on multiple panels of the UK Fleetway-published G2 annual where they added a bit more contrast and made his dark magenta from the Marvel run more blue purple.

Here you can see various Rodimuses from the IDW Regeneration One book.

G2 Marvel Hot Rod (which is the same as G1 Marvel except for faction symbol) is behind Alternators and Animated Rodimus.

Key distinct features: Orange hands, silver thighs, red tinted feet (all more G1 toy accurate), dark magenta instead of red (even more magenta than the movie), no orange chest accent (like the Classics toy), option of G1 and G2 logos, oh and he had a scowlthat textended from the corners of his lips to his jaw (maybe a goatee?) and bags around his eyes.

IDW showed him with the latter day G2 logo here.

But here's his original design:

Edit: if it looks a bit plain, stare at the second design for awhile. I think there's a solid case for a darker magenta on magenta plastic for detail highlights. A subtle two-tone dark magenta might really pop.

If I recall correctly, it's because Marvel had to work off unfinished character designs. That's also why their Galvatron and Kup had different color schemes.

The beauty is, they could do this and package both faction decals as stickers and I bet you'd have:

People who buy two.
People who are fans of Hot Rod who buy one and the original deco.
The G2 collector crowd who would buy one.
Some people who would buy this and a red "classic deco" version to bash together for a movie magenta and orange chest.

So no mention of coming with Daniel. If he doesn't come with him I hope they at least make it to where he can seat the one that came with MP Magnus. It would be a little silly to come with the fishing rod and not have a fishing buddy (unless someone wants to send Hot Rod on a fishing quest similar to Big the Cat).

This? Probably. I'm something of a G2 nut. I mean, I have the G2 Bumble and not the G1 yet and I got G2 Sideswipe first and only want YOTH Optimus or Soundblaster to use as G2.

But that purple one? Nope. Maybe a Black Rodimus version but that's it.

He's probably right. Some of the things have been pointed out would take some pretty substantial engineering to fix. Mind you I'm not complaining parse, just making a general observation

ME TOO! I love it when the transformations are actually creative, and not just repeating themselves. That's why I'm kinda wishing I could get Smartrobin... but by the time I can, he'll be gone probably. He's already gone at most places.
