Have you tried the alternative to the Wacom? Pencil and paper?

Mars plastic erasers worked good for me. When I could draw. Scanning pencils and then darkening them makes them looked inked. Need to have a decient scanner or the background wont be white, and you might pick up smudges from your hand.

That's when you use the tool erase or paint brush, select white and start getting rid of the smudges and any off-white color, carefully. then go back and darken it all for the 'inking'. What i did on two of my turtles, and came out alright.

With the use of Digital Camera as an adapter it is!

My wife's character (when my team was mostly people I knew) was a 2003 Thunderbird. I preferred the Naboo Patrol Fighter version I designed, but we didn't have such an alt back then.

As a comic book artist, i recommend usinga blue lead pencil so you can mess up all you want. When you finish sketching rough with the blue lead, go over it with a regular pencil. This way when you scan the miage, you scan as greyscale (or bitmap if inked) and the blue never gets picked up. See below for one of my recent examples:

First sketching rough in bluepenciling, fixing as a go - no erasing.


When when you find what lines you want and use pencils, it will scan and look like this:


Keep in mind the blue lines are still there in image 2, but that was scanned greyscale while the top was scanned in color. In the 2nd image you can see a faint grey lines that were the actual blue ones - this is cause i adjusted the contrast to force it to get picked up even when scanned greyscale. If I scanned in only black/white (bitmap) - there would be no chance of ever picking up the blues.

I'm almost done with this pinup sketch as you can see, just showing you the difference how how a 0.35cent blue pencil on $4.50 bristol board, scanned with a $250 scanner is more cost effective than a couple thousand dollar wacom. Sure I love wacom, but it's more useful for coloring and inking. Penciling - thats a different story. Just my opinion from years of experience.

I was actually going to chime in about blue lead pencils, I live with an architecture student who swears they're the best thing ever. Then again, he said that about Deee-Lite.

Blue pencils are awesome. I think you can use yellow ones too, since I've seen artist do the pin up art in yellow pencil too. But the blue is more well known/popular. And matches the color of the boarder on the boards for drawing.

Well speaking from a financial kitbashing perspective, Universe Blaster will more than likely not sell very well and will most likely end up on clearance racks whereas Cybertron Soundwave was hard to find.

Even on E-Bay, mothers will be looking to offload their kids Universe Blasters with most Cybertron Soundwave's already being in collector's hands.

But from a personal perspective .... the mold is a piece of **** and could be used in a kitbash if petrol (gasoline for you americans) and matches are involved.

So... is the blue head intentional or not? If so, I think there needs to be a bit more blue elsewhere to make it concrete.

It's not that bad. It's not the best mold ever, but it's still worthwhile, and clearly a 5 or 6 on any 10 point scale anchored appropriately by Armada Sideswipe at 0.

Also, the altmode looks good as a set piece in a WH40K battle.

It is Cybertron Soundwave, and the blue wasn't intentional, but I think I'll keep it blue as it sets the whole thing off quite nicely with the blue on the cockpit shield

Alright, time for you guys to throw your thoughts out there.

Thanks to lack of time, this has been a painfully slow 'bash, which it shouldn't have been considering the VERY basic colour scheme of black and white.

But of course I don't do things simple do I? No. Not content to leave the Blaster mold with a busted eject button, I decided to modify the chest ... see pic.

Now before anyone says anything, yes, it looks very dirty, because it's still a work in progress.

But i'm stuck on that damn head, i'm not quite sure on what to do with it. Perhaps paint the whole "helmet" black leaving a white face and yellow eyes? I'm not sure so i'm asking for feedback from you guys.

Oh and for the record, this is Resonance. Who really doesn't transform into a jet.

And in case people were wondering, i'll be using Steeljaw. Why? Because Steeljaw superior, Ravage inferior. There! I said it! Bring it on you Soundwave and Ravage fans!

(Could have also used Eject as well if i'd gone the whole hog and modded the chest to accommodate a second cassette. But this has taken long enough as it is!)
