Coming from me, you go with what you can find.
That's my philosophy ... mostly because I don't have much choice around here.
So I use Humbrol, most others use Tamiya, the really crazy ones use Games Workshop, you go with whatever works for you.

I was asking more about acrylic vs other types. I remember Sonray and a few others raised a lot of hell in the old art forum about different paints. I never really could tell the difference in the final product, but I have no idea which to actually use.

Acrylic ... enamel ... still comes down to what an individual works best with.
Then you have the gloss -vs- matt debate. Some people prefer their kitbashes to have a nice glossy finish, others prefer a flat matt finish.
I prefer matt because they're machines of war, they're not meant to be shiney.
Simple answer, you go with what you can work with and what works for you.
So you might want to find a junker and just experiment on it.

Im *still* waiting for for Xybertoys to send me my Henkie Mirage, so I can then sacrifice my Classics one for this repaint. That and for Reprolabels (who are going through a big reshuffle right now unfortunetly) to do the faction symbols I've requested.
Ive a horrible feeling Xybertoys is no more....
Also, if I do do Redimus in then ear future, he's be somewhat 'naked' as i was hoping to do a few spoof sponcer ads like real race cars have, and Reprolabels have said they wont be able to do anything that specialised for a good long while.
In short, my timing sucks as usual.

If you have a printer, just make your own sponsor labels and print them onto micro thin acetate (aka over head projector sheets) then trim and stick.
You'll just have to make sure you use a clear glue (that doesn't melt the acetate), and then you can add any sponsor logo you want.

Hmm, I suspect that the acetate would be a bit too thick to be honest. With reprolabel's stickers, they're thin enough to to get at least some of the contors and detail from the plastic underneath. Also, to be honest, I think it'd look *really* obvious and sore thumb like.

Upper torso painted (pre-clean up). This sort of pic is handy because I can pick up spots I missed that my dodgy eyes tend to miss.
