This might be slightly off topic but still somewhat relevant. In the movie, some robots are depicted as being smarter than others which leads me to ask, are they robots that are sentient or are they sentient beings that happen to occupy a robot body?

Well one could argue that cyebrtronians are energy beings (sparks) that inhabit robotic shells depending on the series. (especially in Beast wars/machines.) I guess it depends on how you view it.

I think perhaps Bay's biggest mistake in the series is how he used the Fallen. Being the main "big bad," and all, he should have been either saved for the third movie or introduced in the second movie and defeated in the third movie. I also wish that he had kept Optimus dead in ROTF and waited until the third movie to bring him back. I had been hoping for an "Empire Strikes Back" kind of ending for ROTF (ending dark, with the bad guys having the upper hand). Another mistake was casting Megan Fox. I think he should have used Ellen Paige. She's way better looking (in my opinion), and can actually act.

I was thinking the same thing about the ROTF ending and I could have been right, except for the whole Prime-coming-back thing. Almost made me 10 bucks. Almost.

I think focusing more on Skids and Mudflap instead of Ironhide, Sideswipe, Arcee, and the others was a bad choice. I thought the twins were ok, but I would have rather seen more of the other characters instead.

he made many mistakes. but then when a movie makes a lot of money, he can put two fingers up and say, screw you, my shoddy, one dimensional, plot anorexic, one note characters, is what you people want, so who cares about my mistakes.

because everyone knows that big box office is a clear indicator of quality, and all those serious critics opinions are worthless

Box office returns indicate quantity, not quality. And that quantity is in relation to the number of ticket sales. Clearly based on the box office returns of the movies, there is a large interest in the films, with a large number of people going to see the film, often times more than once. Although it might not indicate quality, the numbers the ticket sales represent would indicate that the movie going masses generally are supporting this film for what they perceive as a "good" film. One need only to look at the user generated reviews/ratings of the films to see that the general consensus among those users is an approval of the films. So, the box office sales and users ratings taken into account would indicate an audience that generally approves of the product they are paying for.

Those critic opinions aren't worth any more compared to any other opinion. Roger Ebert is one man, with an opinion. Just like every other person that watches a movie. Having a column and being a professional critic doesn't make his opinion any more valid than someone elses. If someone's opinion differs with even a critic's, that's their right, and their opinion is just as valid as anyones.

ON-TOPIC: I think his biggest mistake was with the level of humor present in the films. I didn't find any of it to be that bad, but I could've just as easily gone without it. I also would've liked to see more character out of some of the lesser characters in ROTF. Sideswipe was beyond cool in the opening scene. Then became a background character :BANG_HEAD:
Currently in need of: RID Rail Spike robot mode head (not Rail Racer's head); RID Midnight Express gun; RID Rapid Run missile; Animated Ultra Magnus' Hammer

First movie, I thought was just fine. Only thing I could think of that would be an improvement, would be to show more of the Autobots in their prototype forms when they showed up, mostly to clear up who came out of the pool. (I know who came out, but you still have people who think otherwise based on some musical score)

Second movie, I blame mostly on the studios for rushing it so much. Bay had wanted to have it come out a year later, but the studios said no. The end product was obvious to that. I even remember seeing an interview when one of the studio execs wanted more of the minicons over the bigger bots, I'm glad the film makers said no to that.

No where near enough of Ironhide, Ratchet (barely even in the movie) or Sideswipe, or any of the other new Transformers besides the twins. I also liked the interactions of the Transformers in the first movie when Sam was looking for the glasses, and the second movie missed out on that. Yeah, we watch the movies to see the big boys fight, but it's nice to see them not on guard during down time. Too much college crap, not enough of Lennox and Epps. Too much screen time wasted on Megan Fox, not enough on the Autobots.

Hmmm. I disagree, that Ellen Paige would have been better, not that she's not prettier or can act better. On those you're probably spot on. But I feel bad for Turturro and now Alan Tudyk if he's in 3 for having so much more talent than is required or wanted on these films. I think, for what her role was, Fox did fine. Even some of the world's best actors can't polish a turd of a script that much, sometimes. (See: Star Wars Episode 1 for a prime example)
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.
