R.I.P Brigadier
With his passing I also see this as the end of the original U.N.I.T.
He was a wonderful character and aside from The Doctor himself, was the most stalwart of characters in the DW universe.
Thank you Mr Courtney for bringing to life such a wonderful character and entertaining me for so many years.

So have I actually, and my day is not even two hours old.

Here's hoping that the first episode of this year's season pays its respects to him.

Re: The Dr Who (and spin-offs) Thread
So I've been following the series for a while and I'm catching up on the episodes I missed while I was gone on my mission.
So far I've watched the four special that bridged season 4 and 5 and most of season five.
Matt Smith is cool, but I was a little more sad than I thought I'd be to see the tenth doctor regenerate into the 11th.
David Tennant brought a magic to the show that Doctors 9 and 11 were not able to do. Now the 11th is better able to show his age more, but I think the 10th will always be my favorite.
Long live David Tennant!
Overall though, I'm stoked for the next season of Doctor Who. Any news on when it's coming out?

Not really that excited about it, to be honest, mostly because it feels too much like the days when RTD would bring out a new gimmick to try and hook viewers in instead of relying on the writers.

I just watched the trailer for the astronaut episode. It looks creepy! Where have we heard "look behind you" or "don't look behind you" before?

Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

It's just so sudden. Brigadier was a hit but I knew it was coming, I didn't even know she was suffering from cancer! And she was on the tv only a few months ago with the SJ Adventures.
I dread the day I read about Tom Baker. I think after that Doctor Who will be dead for me.

I don't remember hearing anywhere that she had cancer either. Apparently they had half of the next season of SJA completed, whether it'll get aired now is another question, but I hope we'll get to see it.

At the time of her death there are still three stories of The Sarah Jane Adventures to be broadcast on television, and her autobiography, Who's That Girl is due out later in the year.
Tom Baker said it best.
Tom Baker, the Fourth Doctor, said via his website: "Sarah Jane dead? No, impossible! Impossible. Only last week I agreed to do six new audio adventures with her for Big Finish Productions. She can't be dead. But she is: she died yesterday morning. Cancer. I had no idea she was ill; she was so private, never wanted any fuss, and now, gone. A terrible blow to her friends and a shattering blow for all those fans of the programme whose lives were touched every Saturday evening by her lovely heroic character, Sarah-Jane Smith. ... Those sweet memories of happy days with Lis Sladen, the lovely, witty, kind and so talented Lis Sladen. I am consoled by the memories. I was there, I knew her, she was good to me and I shall always be grateful, and I shall miss her."

Tom's words say everything......
I saw her name was trending on twitter while I checked the Canucks score on the bus last night, and thought "well that is interesting", but didn't give it much thought. When I actually saw the story on Topless Robot a couple hours later, my heart completely sank.
The Sarah Jane story's with Jon and Tom are my earliest Who memories, and she was always "The" companion in my mind.
Rest in peace Lis, your fans thank you for all your work, and will miss you.

I'm sure, come Saturday, we'll all find more happy Doctor Who-related things to talk about.
Or maybe not. I'm not sure. This kinda came out of left field, and I'm sure is going to be on fans' minds for a long time to come.
Anyways, Tom had the right idea. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Tom Baker's full tribute
I'm glad there will be a dedication to her.
Tom Baker's full tribute
The BBC have announced that there will be a special programme broadcast this coming Saturday, called My Sarah Jane: A Tribute to Elisabeth Sladen. The show is due to be shown on the CBBC channel at 6:45pm, directly after Doctor Who finishes on BBC1 and before Doctor Who Confidential on BBC3 at 7:00pm.
Elisabeth Sladen created one of Doctor Who's best loved and most enduring characters, Sarah Jane Smith. For over 35 years she brought the feisty, compassionate journalist to life, creating a figure that was adored by audiences of all ages - truly a heroine whose appeal had no boundaries.
This 15 minute programme is both a tribute and a celebration of Elisabeth Sladen. It brings together stories from friends and colleagues and draws on a rich archive of material to remind us of Sarah Jane's journey, from companion to the Third Doctor to the central character in CBBC's award-winning The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Doctor Who Magazine have also reported that there will be a dedication to the actress at the start of Saturday's episode, The Impossible Astronaut.
I'm glad there will be a dedication to her.

When my friend announced he'd be getting HD and hosting a Doctor Who party at his place, he also demanded that we all wear bowties. Now, I've always hated those adjustable prom crap ties, so I tried to find a proper hand-tie casual print tie.
No dice. No thrift shop finds, no men's shop luck. So I decided to figure out how to make one. After a few hours of frustration yesterday, I finally got it.
Any bow tie wearers out there?
