Yes. The manga (particularly the Dark Kingdom arc) spawned several episodes (and bits of episodes) of the anime. Though, the anime did not treat the manga story as gospel and went in its own direction in all five parts.Darth Bombshell wrote:Picked up volume one of Sailor Moon last week. It seems to contain the Acts that I had originally missed (I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but a library near where I lived had the original Manga run except for the first volume), along with a bit that I remember reading. It's interesting to read the new stuff, since it looks like these were adapted into episodes of the anime (the first act was, for sure).

Some oddities I noticed while skimming through SV2 were the following: DeBrine is named "deVleene". Este DeBrine is "Spa deVleene". Kaitou Ace is "Phantom Ace". Saijyo Ace is "Ace Saijyo" (though this may or may not be an error). Motoki gets called "Onii-san" in Sailor V but "Big Bro" in Sailor Moon (?).

I liked the 2 older sailor scouts that came into the series later. I always thought they were a dating couple. the one with the short hair was hott.
I didn't watch for the stories or plots. I never really cared to find out what happened in those lenghty plots/arcs climatic season finale episodes. I was just casual viewer & would catch a episode here & their whenever I felt like it.just to check out the sexy sailor scouts in those outfits & transformations scenes. I was 8 years old at the time,So It wasn't pedophile behavior. the sailor scouts were older than me ar the time anyways.
I haven't watched sailor moon in decades.

It's rather funny that I was just thinking about this earlier. Not quite with that term though.
Since the new books came out, I have been on a major SM nostalgia trip, but I can't help but be reminded of how much I've aged since then. The first time I met Makoto and Minako, I was thirteen. Now, so many years later, I'm thirty years old and they haven't aged with me, it's rather strange and almost jarring, because I've changed so much but the crushes I had on those fictional characters haven't gone away.
Worse yet, when I'm sixty years old they'll still be teenagers. It's almost heartbreaking to someone who loves his fiction as much as I do.
=(

Yes.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:I got volume two of both. Is this the final volume for Sailor V?
The quality for both is about as sub-par as the first two volume 1 books. It's caused kind of a mini-war between those who wanted these books to strive for professional quality, and those who are blindly praising these books thinking we should all just be grateful to have Sailor Moon back at all (which is basically like saying that we should be grateful that we can spend our money on sub-par product).

Considering the originals are long out of print and the possibility of ever seeing them again practically nonexistent until recently...shouldn't we?

The manga deserves much better treatment than it got. Kodansha practically rushed through it without even considering how much backlash their sloppiness would result in. They completed the whole translation well in advance of their very first announcement, which was eight months ago. They had all that time to go and have an editor look over their work and make the necessary corrections to the spelling/grammar/syntax errors, as well as fix many of the other problems, yet they did not.Darth Bombshell wrote:Sabrblade wrote:The quality for both is about as sub-par as the first two volume 1 books. Considering the originals are long out of print and the possibility of ever seeing them again practically nonexistent until recently...shouldn't we?
After volume 1 was reviewed, the translator of the book, William Flanagan, responded on Facebook to give his stance on the translation... except that what he focused on primarily were some of the most minute translation issues that most people would get by easily, completely ignoring the more major concerns people had with the translation.
Why should we be grateful to a company that only cares about getting our money and not giving us a quality product? It's not too much to ask for them to have at least proofread something that they had finished 8 MONTHS before the official release. This release was made out to be such a big deal that seemed like it was going to be a high quality release, and then it comes out chock out full of errors that would make any English teacher cry or cringe. And then when our critiques are addressed, the translator dodges the big points and focuses on irrelevant issues.
We want this to be something great. We want this to succeed and be the best it can be. But Kodansha really crippled it with these translation flaws (since the translation is arguably the biggest concern of English manga releases) and gave us a sloppy and stilted product with little signs of improvement.
And these criticisms are by no means out of line. We have every right to state our opinions and give commentary on the quality of these releases. Yet, SO many people who blindly praise these books as being flawless and godsends just because they're official Sailor Moon manga releases and are of a better quality than the previous Mixx/Tokyopop releases deem us as being inhuman whiners and haters. We shouldn't be content with shoddiness just because it's official.
It's the same with the Transformers. Look at all the reviews of the toys/cartoons/comics/movies/games/books/etc. Just because it's all official doesn't mean it's all good quality product. Nor do we have to "be happy" we have what we have. If something has flaws and can be better, then we have every right to say so. We're not "bashing", we're "analyzing".

News from the third volume of the Kodansha SM manga. It's no better than the first two volumes.
My reactions to each:*Mercury attack: "Hyperspatial Sphere Generate"
*The Four Sisters are now called "The Spectre Sisters".
*Chibi-Usa is spelled with the hyphen, just so you know.
*Chibi-Usa: "This is a Luna-P Ball. Its name is Luna-P." Redundancy, aisle 9.
*Because since having everybody always call Usagi's gem "Legendary Silver Crystal" isn't a mouthful enough, Black Moon's gem is always called "Malefic Black Crystal" to match.
*Jupiter attack: "Spark Ring Wide Pressure". ... ... okay... A little too awkward of a name.
1. "Chou Jigen Kuukan Genshutsu" literally means "Super-Dimensional Space Emergence". Mixx/Tokyopop translated it as "Hyperspace Area Formation", which fan group Miss Dream also went with. "Hyperspatial" sounds a little okay. But the "Sphere Generate" part is blah.
2. Eh, "Ayakashi" can mean something like that ("Phantom", "Ghost", Spectre", etc.), but both Mixx/Tokyopop and Miss Dream opted for "Weird" and "Strange", respectively.
3. Ugh, don't like that hyphen.
4. Bleh.
5. Gag me! What was so wrong with simply "Evil Black Crystal"?
6. Oh, come on! Really? They couldn't tell it was "Sparkling Wide Pressure"? You've gotta be kidding me! That is just pathetic! Pitiful! Fail, Kodansha! You FAIL!
Oh, brother.
