No worries, I let Haruka-chan deal with that.

Keep in mind she doesn't smile much.
Once I ran an Anime festival with over 6,000 attendees. Now... not so much.

Is that something I can order through Previews? Because if it is, that'd be pretty awesome.

Not shabby at all.
So Darth, Chapters will likely get them in, but it you are checking Previews those first two for September will likely show up in the July issue.

Good luck with that. The only ones available are either ungodly overpriced or bootlegs.angeli.mina wrote:I will buy the complete dvd soon.
Then again, the old sets aren't even wroth picking up anyway, due to their lackluster quality.
With the manga getting reprinted, there's hope/possibility for a redub of the anime, so I'd just be patient for something like that to come about.

Save our Sailors Brazil reported the sad news yesterday that after a long and lengthy crusade to get a redub of Sailor Moon, it was not meant to be. A statement posted to their site from Márcio S. Reginnette, a representative of Brazil’s CD & DVD Factory, states that a redub of Sailor Moon S is not authorized because Naoko Takeuchi has not approved of any redubbing in any language. The same request was made in Italy as well, and was also denied. The statement also makes mention that Toei Animation does not have any exclusivity over the franchise, and prior approval has to be obtained by Naoko Takeuchi. There is also an excellent response to these developments posted over at Papo de Budega.

This is just ridiculous (if true).

Our old dub has been long dead since 2004 and bringing it back would be both insulting and a waste of money. Such a task may not even be possible due to all the previous companies who own it no longer existing, having been swallowed up by many other companies since then.
This has got to be a mistake of some kind! A form of miscommunication or whatever, but it simply cannot be true! Why on Earth would Naoko refuse to allow any redubs to occur? She doesn't have 100% control over the anime. Toei has more say in it than she does (they just need her approval and such). And Toei has been more than lenient when it comes to redubs. Just look at the Dragon Ball franchise and One Piece.
Someone's just gotta understand that it would be suicidal to not allow a redub of the anime to occur for the English-speaking countries, as that's the only way that it would become as mainstream as (if not more than) the old English dub was. Otherwise, there goes all that money down the drain.
Not unless it's a Japanese audio only, English subtitled release.Darth Bombshell wrote:I guess a DVD re-release is now out of the question.
Nice, but this isn't the best time. We've got a potentially serious problem on our hands. The anime may be in danger of not coming back the U.S.Sailor Destron wrote:Hey everyone, I just wanted to share with you my picture of my fan character. So enjoy!

I would say that's pretty unlikely, but then again Shout Factory just announced that they're releasing the Japanese TF series over here...

And, back in the early/mid 2000s, when Sailor Moon was released on DVD, the first two series were released in boxed sets Japanese audio only w/ English subs.
But, yeah, the best (and only viable) method for the anime's revival over here would be for it to be redubbed. FUNimation has time and again sad that, should they get it, they'd wanna completely redub it from the ground up (all 200 episodes, all 3 movies, and all 5 special shorts).
But, if this news proves to be true for even an English redub, then we'll be stuck with nothing but the retranslated manga that we're getting from Kodansha USA. I'm glad that we are getting the manga, but the anime is the real moneymaker when it comes to marketing this particular series.
And frankly, the old dub is outdated, dead, and far too much of a hassle to revive. and even if it were to be brought back, it likely wouldn't do very well, what with how much of a hackjob it was. The standards it was made by were somewhat acceptable at the time, but times have changed and its quality has degraded over the course of it.

But at least such a job would allow for a truer translation than the original dub. As much as I enjoyed it, iit would be better to start from the ground up. I mean, most people saw the original dub and considered it a children's show. Anyone whose seen the original Japansese would tell you how wrong they were. A redub would go a long way towards proving those people wrong.

Most likely not. Which is good, since the Japanese version is superior to Omni's fail of a dub.Darth Bombshell wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Yeah, but those Shout! Factory DVDs could still have the lame Omni dub on them.

I am pro-redub. I want this news to be a mistake so that we can get a redub. But what you guys want is the anime remade in English? Like translated more “adult” like? I think I know what you are saying. I’m just happy with the Japanese versions with the words at the bottom- I don’t know how true they are to the translation, but you don’t know how accurate a new English version would be either. I say the best is the original version, things like how the character’s voices’ where intended to sound and the placement of the music.
Anyway, when you get a chance, please look at my previous post? I’d appreciate it, thanks. :CON:

Hey, nicely done, did you draw that yourself?
Back to the subject, what I at least want in any (re)dub is:
1) True to the original names
2) True to the original characters and personalities
3) True to the original stories
...within ability, keeping in mind that some Japanese jokes, puns, customs and whatnot can't be fully brought over without losing things in translations. I've seen a few mangas and animes that did really well in that aspect, like Azumanga Daioh, Ouran High School Host Club, Strawberry Panic and currently Rosario Vampire.
