Where does a storm come from if not the sky?

You're probly thinking of Fire Star.

No, Firestorm is a DC Comics Superhero(es), and Firestar is both a TF:G1 Fembot and a Marvel Comics female Superhero (originally from the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends TV show, then added to the comics).

Sorry I haven't been sleeping well for the past couple days. I must of been looking at the TF name and wrote it backwards.

Star Fire is a DC Comics super hero.

Firestar is an Autobot and apperently allso a Marvel comics super hero.

Aren't copy right laws in place to PREVENT this sort of character confusion? We got 3 characters right here with simular names all from different companys.

Correct.

DC comics does have a Firestorm.

Firestar is Marvel and TF G1.

DC also has a Starfire while Marvel has a Sunfire.

Thats not how copyright laws really work.

You can use a character name from a different publisher or fiction as long as your character does not resemble the other character in any way.

So if you wanted to right a character that was a "Superintendent" at a school and call him Super-man" you could likely get away with it.

Dc comics and Marvel have a few characters with the same names.

Actully the names aren't copy righted at all, they're Trade Marked. But the thing about Trade Marks is you can loose the rights to them if the names go out of use for X number of years so really I couldn't use the name Superman because DC still owns the Trade Mark on it.

The name "Warbird" on the other hand which was a Marvel comics character, has been out of use for quite some time so it's likely Marvel doesn't even have the rights to it anymore. Even more likly they won't be able to get the rights back because of the "Warbirds" on Star Trek.

The Marvel comics character Warbird has allso been known as Binary, Ms. Marvel, and Carol Danvers. http://www.comicvine.com/ms-marvel/21561/

I do tend to get my terms od "Copy Right" and "Trade Mark" mixed up but what I said is still on point.

You or any writter/publisher can use a known character name as long as your character bears absolutely no resemblance to the better known character.

There are a few character names that both DC and Marvel share.

Captain Marvel is one of them.

Marvel has had several Captain Marvels and DC has had theirs since before Marvel's even came into being.

Both DC and Marvel have had a Huntress.

Both DC and Marvel has a Flash.....while Marvels is not a superhero at all and is a Spiderman supporting character.

Both have had characters called Black Cat.

I really cant think of any others right now but even with the trademark issues it is possible to use the name "Super-Man" in the fasion I suggest.

Actully sence DC Comics is "The Flash" and Marvel's is "Flash Tompson" or something like that, it really doesn't fall into the Trade Mark law because the name itself was changed.

With Super-Man and Superman all you did was change the spelling of the same name.

I belive the thing with Captain Marvil was that the one that had the name first lost the trade mark just before the other took the name. Wasn't DC Comics Captain Marvil actully renamed Shazam for a while? That's actully what he said to turn into Captain Marvil but I think there was a brief period where that was allso actully his name because they lost the trade mark.

As for the others you mentioned, I've never even heard of Marvel Comics Huntress or DC Comics Black Cat. Of course I never even heard of DC Comics Huntress till the short lived TV series "Birds of Prey".

It doent really matter.

Look it up if you dont believe me.

The letter of the Law is pretty precise on the issue. Its not the name but the likeness thats an issue.

Saber Prime wrote:I belive the thing with Captain Marvil was that the one that had the name first lost the trade mark just before the other took the name.

Not excacly.

The original owner of DC's Captain Marvel was Faucet comics.

They sold their character to DC not long before Marvels version of the character came out.

But DC firmly held the rights on the character at the time.

Saber Prime wrote:Wasn't DC Comics Captain Marvil actully renamed Shazam for a while? That's actully what he said to turn into Captain Marvil but I think there was a brief period where that was allso actully his name because they lost the trade mark.

No.But the book cant be called Captain Marvel.DC's Captain Marvel stars in books called The Power of Shazam or things like that.

The law suit ended with those terms.

There are a good number of names that are used by both and other comic companies.

Anymore on this we should handel in pm.

i realy hope its autobot camp and i also realy hope someone can put it on youtube

firestorm would be a better name for the two of them combined
i dont find it confusing at all, at worst its like knowing two people called dave

suv wasnt as bad as i expected and most of the episode i thought the benefactor would be P C powel , i twiged just befor we saw swindle
he definatle saved the episode

i got to say though im getting a little bored with new characters turning up then dissapering at the end
and they are realy shooting themselfs in the foot by waiting so long to relese the toys

The link to my topic, "Jet, Tank, Robot" is still there but when I click on the link I get a thing saying the topic doesn't exsist. :(

BTW Floods suck! The Green Room in my High School's theater would flood every time it rain because there's a step down into the green room and a river that runs right by the side of the building. They've lost alot props and costumes to water damage.
