The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
Re: The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
Also like to point out that I was referring to Unicron as a plot device, not as a character. There's a big ol' difference between a character in a show being a carbon copy of a previous character and the actual story itself being a carbon copy.
Like you mention Prime being done before, yes, absolutely, done to death. But this Prime acts different, has a different personality, different role, so handles situations differently. Following this logic, the TF:A crew could introduce Unicron and make it work. From the quality of the writing and the way in which the characters are different from prior Unicron scenarios, yeah it'd be great. BUT. So far the story is fairly original and the appearance of Unicron would shoehorn it back into something of a cliche.
There's like, what, 5 other series where the path is Autobots Vs Decepticons, Unicron shows up, Both sides fight him?

And the Constructicons-homage, the "Construction Team", was featured toward the end of the Energon TV series. And don't forget the Armada Wal-Mart "Dinobots" toyline released in 2003. They had a dino Grimlock.
Allso the build team from Transformers Rid. Not really "Constructicons" sence they were Autobots but their molds were repainted into Constructicons in the universe line I think.
Construction vehicle teams have been in Transformers longer and more offten than the Dinobots.
The original Constructicons was a team of 6 combiners.
RID Build team was a team of 4 combiners.
Energon Construction Team was a team of 5 Combiners.
And for the first time ever...
Animated Constructobots/Constructicons are a duo that don't combine.
How does the one team from G1 that had 6 in the gestalt not 5 evolve into a non-combineing team of 2?

HEY, sorry, I was jusst saying what I thought was right.
In my defense:
Grimlock hasn't been in a SHOW since G1
Cybertron soundwave had a non musical alt mode.
Just saying, don't get emotional about it, gees sorry..

How about Unicron being a con who plans on overthrowing Megatron, and has a huge ship that looks like his G1 alt-mode?

You are incorrect.
There was "A" Grimlock in the RID show.
He was a member of a Autobot sub-group called the Build Team.

Granted he wasnt the same character but Animated Grimlock is not the same character as G1 Grimlock ether.

We can pretty much guess you meant a Dinobot Grimlock, Newtilator, but there still has been "a" Grimlock in a show since G1.

Yeah I'm preddy sure he ment to say there haven't been Dinobots in a show sence G1 and he would be right.
There was Dinobot in Beast Wars but that's entierly different from Dinobots.
Grimlock has been in Transformers RID but he was not a Dinobot and he's allso the only Grimlock I actully like. Not because he's not a Dinobot but because he doesn't start every sentence with "Me Grimlock" and he is green which could be a refrence to the color of a lizard and thus a dinosaur.

But theres no real reason to think that all [or many] dinosaur's were green.

Ya know what's interesting? RiD Grimlock was a backhoe, yet the name Grimlock is normally affiliated with a dino form. And Dinobot's "Dawn of the Future's Past" toy was a backhoe, when he later becomes a dino.
So it's like Dinobot's Timelines body is a reference to RiD Grimlock's body: both were bots named after a dino guy, yet their altmodes were backhoes.

I didn't even think of that. I just thought Dinobot had that mode because the mold allready had his head.

Just watched "A Fist Full of Energon." Interesting episode. Nice to see Lockdown again, and it's good to see that Megatron still hasn't forgiven Starscream for his betrayal. And, of course, Starscream's as arrogant as ever.
And Prowl acting as doctor to the Dinobots was interesting. It's also interesting to see that Snarl and Swoop just kinda staying out of the way of a rampaging Grimlock.

And we also got our first peek at the Ramjet and Skywarp personalities. Awesome stuff.
Poor poor Skywarp.

'Course, the best line in the episode comes from Ratchet, regarding Prowl's attempt at "false static."
Ratchet: Personally, I've always found Bumblebee's false static to be more convincing.

To some, that statement would be considered heresy.

To me, well, I've always thought Beast Wars was the better series. Then again, that could just be my personal bias.

i felt like a traitor saying it but its true
im a geewuner big time but there are so many throwbacks and nods they keep the good stuff while keeping it new and different the only way it could be better is if they had a more realistic designs for the tfs but even them ive grown to like sari is annoying but tolarable same goes for all the other humans. the story is starting to get realy good and i can see it getting a lot better
who knows, in a few years we may see a better movie than the original
