But, having finally gotten used to that, I'm beginning to love the Decepticon characters. Especially Knock-Out. I also enjoy the idea that he's a gay Decepticon. While his sexuality shouldn't be made any more overt than the other characters, I hope nothing is done to rule that option out.

Exactly. Who says he's gay? He's a doctor, he's supposed to be concerned about the quality of his parts.

As I said, I like the idea that he's gay. But won't deny that the idea is based on essentially nothing.
Although, I wouldn't call him effeminate. Slightly theatric, maybe.

Though, some of the actors stood in for some absent cast members. Markie Post stood in for Sumalee Montano as Arcee, Ernie Hudson stood in for Daran Norris for Knock Out, and lottery-selected fans were picked to stand in for Frank Welker as Megatron and the "voices" of Bumblebee and Terrorcon Skyquake.
The added bonus scene was of the Autobots trying to contact the kids from their homes (by that point, they hadn't found out that the kids were in another dimension and were thus becoming desperate to find them, resorting to ANY method they could think of), Optimus contacting Agent Fowler so that he could reach the kids' homes, Fowler calling Jack's mom June to see if Jack was home, and then June calling back Fowler once she realizes that he called her via a government number. Fowler was hilarious in this scene.
After the script reading and some Q&A, episode 16, "Operation Breakdown" was aired prior to its airdate. It was a very cool episode that gave us some insight on the history shared between Bulkhead and Breakdown, as well as exploring the personality of (and some traces of morality in) Breakdown. We also got to see more of MECH, which just kept me wanting to know more about them and their secret operation: Project: Chimera.

I think they meant they wanted a TF series set on Cybertron without humans, and didn't completely screw up the characters beyond recognition.

Yeah. I think I was the narrator in the first episode. Of course that's a motion comic, not quite a full-fledged animated series.

Right on the box, "Ages 5+." That's why the series is mostly devoid of maturity.

Well, first off, an argument on the internet means jack-all. I should know, I've practically made it a career choice. Second, just because some people on the internet like something that you don't doesn't mean the fandom is doomed or whatever it is you're implying. Not everyone has the same tastes as you, so any deviation from them doesn't mean we've all devolved into chimps.

Animated Optimus would beat the crap out of Prime Optimus. He gets the ass kicked out of him in every fight.

But as far as personalities go, however, Animated Optimus wins hands down. First and foremost, he actually had one! I've said this time and again, but Prime OP is just far too stoic and uninteresting as a character. He actually had a personality in the Exodus novel and was a very interesting character there. But as far as the cartoon's portrayal of the guy goes, he's just a carbon copy ripoff of Movie Prime's personality. Nothing original. He's only ever smiled once, and when he did, it just seemed so out of context. Animated Optimus was a three-dimensional character who started off as a nobody, but then was thrust into a role of leadership he neither wanted nor felt he deserved, and yet took it upon himself to step up and try to be the best that he could be. And in the end, he ultimately became Cybertron's newest great hero and with genuine evidence and creditability to boot! Not since the Beast Era's Optimus Primal had there been a series that produced a character who rose from the ground up to such high merit worthy of savior-like praise. I applaud Animated Optimus Prime: A True Son of Cybertron.

To be perfectly fair, he hasn't died yet. And in a series that's okay with killing it's cast, that really says something.

It was always kind of silly that the Autobots would tip-toe around humans who are clearly hostile towards them. If they're shooting, they're not going to stop shooting, and pulling punches isn't worth the effort. If half of the major characters in Marvel Comics can kill people and still be considered superheroes, why can't the race of war machines?
DJ1107 wrote:but why all of a sudden the moral dilemma I'll never understand.
Because he's sane. He was just saved by his fiercest enemy while his own teammates didn't lift a finger, you'd start rethinking your loyalties after that, too. And hell, that was without knowing Megatron had no intention of helping him.
This episode has an all-too-underused theme in Transformers that I actually really like; that the Autobots and Decepticons are more than willing to work together if they share common goals. You usually only see that maybe once per series.
MECH is actually doing a good job of proving that yes, human villains can be effective and even intimidating. I mean, Good God, dissecting a still-online Transformer, then using it's severed optic as a trap. You don't see Cobra Commander doing that. Hell, I don't think even the Joker has done that. (Though it does seem like something he would do...)
