So I just saw Rogue One. So much better than Force Awakens. So much. It felt like FA should have felt. Like the original trilogy. I won't go into specifics, but the story was better, the fighting was better, and the villain, though not a Sith, was more believable than Kylo Ren. Of course, older characters such as Senator Organa (Jimmy Smits returns!), R2 and 3PO and even a CG Princess Leia make cameos, but the best cameo IMO next to Vader was Grand Moff Tarkin, in all his CG glory. Did I mention this was so much better than Episode 7? A perfect lead-up to A New Hope. Go see it.

Rogue One was trash. Even worse than The Force Awakens! The only good parts were the callbacks to the older movies, but if this movie didn't have the "Star Wars" name in the title, very few people would consider it "good." This movie had so much potential. They could have done so much more with it, but they decided to play it safe, just like Force Awakens. Disney has ruined the franchise.

Well, ****, the movie must be amazing, then.

EDIT: Oh, here we go. 84% critical score, 90% audience score. For comparison's sake, even the best-reviewed Transformers movie didn't get the ratings Rogue One is getting. Didn't you once say those were the best movies of all time? And the consensus is that Rogue One is better than them...

I wouldn't call it amazing, but I sure as hell wouldn't agree with Sly. Far cry from agreeing with it in fact.

Is it the best Star Wars movie? No. But it sure as hell isn't the prequels!

I made the mistake of getting excited for this movie, I set my expectations high, and it didn't quite make it. It was good, I enjoyed it, and it was what it was. A prequel to Episode 4 without the core group of characters we grew up with.

Still one of the better movies of the year, but its also a year we've had a 2 DC movies.

Best Star Wars film since The Empire Strikes Back for me. Completely refreshing to follow the redshirts and see the background story of what made A New Hope possible. It was very much Last Stand of the Wreckers in tone towards the end. It was also nice to see the morality of the Rebellion questioned.. that it wasn't the same, simple Good vs Evil of the original trilogy and that in war good people are capable of bad things. They got the tone wonderfully right for me.

And that final Vader scene was spectacular.

Just seen it.....excellent movie...it waaay surpasses Farce Awakens ;)^ the last hour is one of the best!

3 teeny gripes...the music felt out of place in places, you could tell that Tarkin is a CG character(deffo with the eyes) & vader's force choke line

First Star Wars movie without John Williams as the composer and it was obvious.

Mind you, the guy did play a Stormtrooper in The Force Awakens so he was bound to miss something. :-P

HOWEVER after the terribly slow beginning it gets going and the end is really good fun overall.

And it's nice to not have the Skywalker clan shoved down your throat for a change. It's not a perfect movie by any means - but it's one i'd watch again (well the end of it anyway) at home.

And it is soooooooooooooooooooo much better than Force Awakens as both of them start really slow But Force Awakens insults your intelligence more - Now I need to listen to the score see if there is any stand out tracks - I don't think there is going to be it seemed like a hybrid score a little bit Shadows of the Empire a little bit Force Awakens. the x-wing music was very force awakens for example.

Also my favourite bugbear was still present NO PROPER STAR WARS ALIENS OR DROIDS.

Also I still get the impression they are doing things on the cheap a bit in places - but at least some of what they shot seems to actually be outside.

Crikey though they really show how dangerous to the user those thermal detonators are. They have a blast radius more like an anti-tank weapon.

Overall it added more than it detracted - but there is some curious stuff missing like there is barely an Astromech Droid in the Movie... Not close up anyway - even Artoo is shot from behind. and they didn't seem to think to show the droids being loaded - when if you look at the original Star Wars Hanger set there is droids all over the place.

I heard some people claim Chopper is in the Movie and Hera being mentioned on the com suggests it's actually him. But I didn't see him myself.

It's not like Droids are hard to get they can be made and reused again and again - heck that is the kind of thing they should be making to store.
So that is two Star Wars Movies in a row with some curious absences.

Also did anyone else notice that The Death Troopers Transport looks a bit like "Ghost" from SW:Rebels. I was a little disappointed that you only really see one room in the Death Star - I'd have liked some more Easter Eggs like a space trooper or a shot of one of the bigger hanger bays perhaps with ties on the ceiling racks.

The Shore Troopers and Death Troopers fit in OK but neither of them were bothered to be explained in anyway - and I also noticed the background Imperials Barely spoke - where as they are quite chatty in Episode IV.

Overall though I liked it but there is still some room for improvement.

Speaking of Rebels.....where's the Rogue One tie-in episode? did i miss it or has it not aired yet?

also

no ep 8 teaser at the end of the end credits(i think :-? ) of Rogue One! thought we might've gotten something seeing as the teaser for Force Awakens was shown a year before the movie came out

Whoa whoa whoa, hold the phone. RAR is making complaints about a Star Wars movie that aren't actually true in the slightest? Get outta town! Next thing you know he's going to be posting clickbait Youtube videos that he thinks "proves" his opinion is correct.

OK exchange 'Proper' for 'Pre-existing in canon' then.

For those interested here is the score's playlist on Youtube :

That is objectively false. I'm not even going to bother with the video with a title like that, it's just going to be a bunch of raging from someone with no knowledge of film history.

Yes it is quite a click bait title.

What, you missed the damn Mon Calamari commanding the Rebel fleet as well?

Proper, pre-existing in canon, wtf? They should only include aliens and droids from a movie 40 years ago? What a load of horse ****.

He's just looking for things to complain about, as usual, without any consideration of whether or not the complaints are valid. If we all ignore him, he might get tired of writing up these unnecessarily long essays on why he thinks newer Star Wars movies are the worst things ever.

I know this may lead to some hostilities, but I can't help it: which fandom is worse when it comes to "origins" or "canon" of a franchise? Star Wars or Transformers?

Depends on the context and the specific argument.

Some revisions seem to have been happily accepted like Sparks over Lasercores.

It's hard to say. Transformers has a few arguments here and there but the fact that it's very explicitly using a multiverse means that "canon" is a lot more flexible. Star Wars, on the other hand, had a notoriously messy canon, based on tiers and anything could just be cut out at the whim of anyone on a higher tier, with George himself being at the top...and then after he sold it to Disney everything in the Expanded Universe, including a lot of universally beloved works, were all excised. So now the arguments can be ended with "That never really happened...sorry..."

Probably pissed Karen Traviss off something fierce, although all the messes she made were rendered non-canon back when George still had control of the show. (Literally, it was over how the Mandalorians were portrayed in Clone Wars, which is really hypocritical when you considered how she handled Mara Jade)

So I finally saw the movie last night and I can confirm based on this sentence that you haven't. I saw pre-existing aliens and droids all over the place. What, do C-3P0 and R2-D2 not count as pre-existing droids to you? Because they were only one example. I saw a GNK droid, an R5 droid, Viper Droid, a twi'lek dancer, and Bib Fortuna-looking Twi'lek male, hell, the two dudes who harass Luke in Mos Eisley Cantina get a cameo.

Dude, next time watch a movie before complaining about it.
