If you remember classic CHUG, most had their relatively classic robot designs, but many had new original vehicles.
I do remember Classic CHUG, as it happens. Classic CHUG also had a lot of what I said: Unicron Trilogy redecoes and redecoes of some of its own molds, as nominal updates of Micromasters and other characters, with new heads
if they were lucky. Here, enjoy the parade:
See?
There was also some of that going on at the Legends class (although that's lesser):
-Kanrabat- wrote:Some were combiners that no longer combined but with an original vehicle like that amazing Universe Onslaught. Other were minibots supersized to ultra class (modern leader) with an updated vehicle mode. Some had space vehicles or were just tools in G1 but they got Earth vehicle modes in Classics and old Generations. Those old bot's were then reinvented completely.
So I want more of that.
I don't want more of it, at least not a lot more of it (in CHUG, at any rate; New series' are another matter, that's what they're for). I'm kinda annoyed at a lot of what we got of it, because A. I was interested in those characters because of the G1 cartoon, so having these less-representative or non-representative versions - this applies to both the reimaginings and some of the redecoes - was not exactly appealing (a major reason I mostly collected G1 instead of CHUG up until coming across
Titans Return Hot Rod in a store) and B. I found a lot of the modernized altmodes aesthetically inferior to the classic ones. I did develop a tolerance for that much (in some cases) after getting into TR since that increased my desire for versions in a modern scale.
Speaking of scale, that's something else that put me off about some of the pre-Prime Wars CHUG stuff (Bumblebee is too big IMO, the Classics Seeker mold is a size class too small..)
A few further thoughts:
* Some of the reimagined figures just put me completely off (Classics Megatron, Universe Galvatron, Sunstreaker, Silverbolt, Ironhide, and Generations Scourge for example)
* Others I was willing to put up with particularly after getting TR Hot Rod) but still bugged me I was particularly bothered by the modernized aesthetics, altmodes, and/or Alternators-esque transformations of the
Universe Sideswipe and Prowl molds, Classics Hot Rod, and Classics Voyager Optimus (who CW Optimus and both main WFC Optimus toys have since erased any desire I had for). Hound and Mirage bothered me a lot less, although both have since been upstaged in my collection by their SIEGE version(My like for SIEGE Mirage's looks and proportions in both modes is strong enough for the changed transformation to not bother me). Wheeljack and Jazz don't bother me at all. Tracks I'm mostly good with too, only thing I'm bothered by is the inferior flight mode.
* I tend to be bit more lenient re: Decepticon purchases than I am with Autobots, just for the sake of bulking up the Decepticons' ranks.
* The IDW aesthetic of a lot of Thrilling 30-era Generations was also offputting to me, although I'm prepared to tolerate it for Skids and Crosscut.

I think a lot of modern cars look meh compared to the ones modeled by the G1 cast, so I wouldn't be excited for that in CHUG at all.
A new series, on the other hand... That would be something.
Edited to add some more thoughts
