Indeed. Thinking along the lines of a Master Version of Monstructor, my trail of thought went to the Pretender Leader - Thunderwing. Another character HasTak couldn't care less about.
AllNewSuperRobot wrote:I guess the thing that works in Bludgeon's favour is that he is an easy Tank Bot retool. Thunderwing is a unique mold.
He'd be great in Commander Class.
o.supreme wrote:ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:And that's relevant how...? Majin Zarak isn't a leader. Majin Zarak is a movie-exclusive monster from Beast Wars II.
I'd say that anime movie-exclusive nature combined with the freaky design and the fact that he'd require a big toy to not come off as lame are much more important factors.
I could be mistaken, but I think AllNewSuperRobot's comment wasn't connected to yours.
As for Majin Zarak, the reason why he's mentioned here often is because he is freaking awesome! (my opinion) vs yours that he is "lame".

I'm imagining something like a normal animal mode and a Transmetal-style psuedo-vehicle mode, rather than a full humanoid transformation. So ground-based lifeforms might have wheels they could deploy for extra speed, flying forms might be able to pop out jets or hoverfans, aquatic forms could have thrusters and supercavitation... basically, either variants on "stealth" and "speed" modes, or "agile" vs "construction" modes, with things like diggers, forklifts, smelters... little raccoon-type forms which disassemble everything they can lay hands on and then engage in crude trade with other life for energy or raw materials (maybe in symbiotic or mutualistic relationships). They might even perform basic maintenance and/or cleaning.
I'd also want to see something with advanced mimicry skills, which can extrude a variety of psuedo-kibble and uses transformation abilities to take on the approximate shapes of other lifeforms. Not something with an altmode scanner, but just something with a lot of physical flexibility, maybe a color-changing surface.
AllNewSuperRobot wrote:The Pretender concept is the same as that of the Fuzors IE very context specific. They just need to give the idea a new approach and it would be viable again. If they can make money out of the Actionmaster concept again, ala RED. Then it shouldn't be too difficult to relaunch the Pretenders.

That sounds pretty awesome.
Lemme add another gimmick. Not only those would be beast to vehicles, but how about a duocon gimmick à la Energon to make super beasts? You would also be able to make a huge variety of hybrids.

One for each year of the Movieverse's decade strong tenure. Here's to a few more explosive years!
Yeah, well, I'm not too surprised they didn't go there, considering the even-more-astounding choice of even Takara failing to do a complete "Masquerade" homage when the line had Autobots sharing molds with Stunticons (seriously, what the hell?). Funnily enough, we actually got somewhat closer to the Energon Optimus homage than we did to that! the limb colors of the official "Optimus Maximus"/"Convoy Grand Prime" configurations are chosen in reference to Energon Optimus' super mode.alekese wrote:Something I'm astounded that they didn't do, and sorely wish they had, is a cw/uw/potp/selects energon optimus prime:
-Voyager optimus prime, redecoed in energon colors
-Skyburst/stormclash version of the heli mold further retooled to replace the rotor assembly w/ a conning tower and the tailfin section with a submarine rudder to make Submarine-4
-skyburst/stormclash redecoed into Copter-2, using the other headsculpt of the pair from sub-4
-unite warriors nosecone redecoed into Digger-3
-rook either redecoed or retooled with a new vehicle front for a windshield, and a new fireladder accessory that plugs onto the roof post for Fire-1
Mind you, to be a true proper update of Energon Optimus, he'd have to be accompanied by lossless updates of - or else be backwards-compatible with - these two:-Kanrabat- wrote:A proper update of Energon Optimus would be amazing.
Especially if the lone Optimus remains a "fattimus" and the drone limbs becomes original character with their own unique bot mode.
Bit of a difference between Wing Saber and Star Saber, even if the homage is obvious. The transformation needs are substantially different, due to Wing Saber being a powerup add-on as opposed to the leader who wears it (Which is what Star Saber is).-Kanrabat- wrote:A Star Saber is a given.
Which would be too big for the Energon version unless the split vehicles reduced the size of the whole.-Kanrabat- wrote:But an Omega Supreme would have to be a Titan.
No.-Kanrabat- wrote:Furthermore, the only "combining" happening is a head-swap, making the gimmick pointless.
Which would require a fake Optimus head unless the previously-mentioned size thing was resolved, and either way would be a downgraded faux-implementation or half-implementation. So it wouldn't be a true update on the Optimus end.-Kanrabat- wrote:Still, I see an Energon Onega Sentinel happening. Titan class, of course, and a head-swapping gimmick to represent the "combined mode" with Optimus.
No, it also makes Optimus actually part of the equation instead of being awkwardly left out while his drones attach. And the "kibble cancer" can be dealt with via improvements to Optimus' engineering. Also, way to completely ignore the thing about the drones attaching.-Kanrabat- wrote:I forgo quoting for simplicity.
That picture you posted proves my point in how POINTLESS do king Optimus inside Omega Sentinel is for the combined mode. All it truly gives is a new head while giving KIBNLE CANCER on the back.
Again, too sodding big unless the multi-component nature reined in the size.-Kanrabat- wrote:Make an updated TITAN Onega Sentinel.
You mean the combination that lets you recreate a significant thing from the Energon cartoon? And the hollow space that's a function of the body being itself a combiner (in his individual vehicle modes, it gives a place for the neck plate and the left arm's shoulder joint to go)?-Kanrabat- wrote:Skip the stupid combination that requires a huge hollow space for nothing.
The only "partsforming" the combination requires in the first place is detaching the Headmaster figure.-Kanrabat- wrote:Gives that Sentinel a head-swap gimmick that requires no partsforming.
Meh.-Kanrabat- wrote:Of course, that Optimus head would be a "fake" one and would be big enough to be proportionate to the Titan body.
That's fair, but there are degrees. MP Star Saber still had the Brain of Courage dock inside Saber's body even though it no longer sprung out the face, because it still replicated the feel and the fiction as best as possible, and was superior to having the Brain of Courage figure left sitting out on his lonesome.-Kanrabat- wrote:Of course it wouldn't be a "true" update but if we play that game, NO updates are ever "true." Gimmicks get modified or left out all the time. Proportions change. And so on.
No, I didn't. I was thinking you meant we would get Star Saber and Wing Saber would be made from him. Because Wing Saber is NOT a "given". Optimus could happen, because he's an Optimus. Omega Supreme/an Omega Sentinel is likewise in the cards, because they're out of G1 material for new Titan-class molds. Wing Saber? Not so guaranteed.-Kanrabat- wrote:Also, you know I meant WING Saber.
