Exactly. He's the linking thread of them all. His machinations and Primus' efforts to counter them are the powers behind the plot of Armada, he's a major driving force in Energon, and cosmic backlash from his demise is the main threat in Cybertron.Burn wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:Why are these toy lines called the Unicron Trilogy?
Because Unicron is a focal point of all three series.
Well, doing a co-produced trilogy of toylines with an accompanying trilogy of anime series was Archer's brainchild from what I've read. And the visual/toy design people seem to have on board with them being a contiguous trilogy (there are elements of continuity in the visual and toy designs, like Cybertron Optimus' gun basically being the Energon Blaster, and Megatron's Armor of Unicron; it may only be referred to as that in the dub but just look at him).Burn wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:Is it official
Yes. Blame Aaron Archer.
Yes, he was in Super Link; that's why this toy exists:Rodimus Prime wrote:Thanks. I wasn't sure, it's been so long since I've seen them. Armada I remember clearly, because I have both Armada and Micron Densetsu on DVD and the stories are close enough for both. But I only ever saw Energon once and never even finished Cybertron, after watching Super-Link and Galaxy Force. And IIRC, Unicron wasn't even in Galaxy Force. Was he even in Super-Link? (Yes, I know that question technically belongs in the comics and cartoons forum.)
Rodimus Prime wrote:Why are these toy lines called the Unicron Trilogy? Is it official or did the fandom labeled them that? It's not like Unicron wasn't around before. Does he even appear in Cybertron?
I wondered about that as well, and the only explanation I came up with was that the animators were lazy. They knew that Prime's original appearance was going to be very short, so there was no need to come up with an entirely new look, only to lose it a few minutes in. So they took an already established design, 1 that was still fresh in fans' minds, and made minor adjustments to it.blackeyedprime wrote:Armada (despite fire convoy not supposed to be optimus prime, armada prime first appears with fire convoy nods butt, angled chest windows and head).
It's called character model re-use; Armada's toyline didn't offer anywhere near enough bodies to populate planet Cybertron with, so they re-used G1 animation models - usually recolored - for generics. Including generic Mini-Cons. Armada's backstory for the characters and for the war is too different from G1, the characters themselves have notable differences from their G1 counterparts, there's the whole Mini-Cons thing, and the fight against Unicron plays out too differently. It's a different smegging universe.blackeyedprime wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:Why are these toy lines called the Unicron Trilogy? Is it official or did the fandom labeled them that? Not sure why when these could be considered more 'ology' worthy and its use is deff misrepresented to me anyhoos, its not as though everything with predacons in it have to be a trilogy+++++
G1
Beastwars
Armada (armada shows g1 autobots on cybertron that hear the minicons broadcast)
Okay, first off, Unicron isn't "just some horns" in the movieverse. Unicron is the mass Earth formed around (like in Prime) and those are his horns poking through the crust because he's waking up. Not that we'll ever get the resolution on that now..blackeyedprime wrote:Or a quadrilogy:
G1
Beastwars
Car robots rid (could consider the pyramid that turns megs into galvatron Unicron or something to do with him - after all if Unicron just some horns in baynus why not :p)
It's just more design recycling. As Rodimus Prime pointed out.blackeyedprime wrote:Armada (despite fire convoy not supposed to be optimus prime, armada prime first appears with fire convoy nods butt, angled chest windows and head).
