Great chart work as always.
If only there was a full version of his Scramble City cartoon model available, since his design was a bit different in that OVA. The Studio Ox one on the far right is close, but the cartoon model used in Scramble City was much cleaner.
On another note, seeing this art in such a big size that shows all the little Decepticons inside him up close, I just realized that, with what the recent Unite Warriors fiction did, this image featuring Galvatron and Starscream both inside Trypticon together in a piece of Japanese G1 artwork is now completely believable, since we can now say that that isn't Cartoon Galvatron, but is instead Galvatron II! Which would also mean that this isn't Season 3 Trypticon, but Scramble City Trypticon, who was retconned by Unite Warriors into instead being an earlier version of the Trypticon who would later be created by the Constructicons in Season 3 (both Trypticons even have not only different cartoon models but slightly different Japanese names, with Season 3 Trypticon being ダイナザウラー "Dainazaurā" and Scramble City Trypticon being ダイノザウラー "Dainozaurā").

maybe brunt or something.
christ knows the head did fuk all in base and city mode in the G1 Version except stick out like a sore thumb if you looked at it from the right angle so with this being a new mold and all maybe the designers might want to do something about that.
I can answer you now, but you wont like it.
Sadly, the head doesnt transform and also sticks out. its G1 all the way.
Here is a pic that shows it. You can see Trypticon lying on his back, head (non transforming) tilted back and half his body folded down to do the base mode:

For frame of reference, full title is almost exactly on the same spot he is in this photo (also not transformed):

not really, makes sense. I kind of always assumed that Trypticon seen in SC was made from the Underwater decepticon HQ seen in the latter portion of S1 and S2 (thus the reason after SC it is never seen again). I figured that Trypticon would have been destroyed in the off-screen battle between him and Metroplex, and thus in FFOD, the reason why a New Trypticon would need to be built.

Maybe it's because we still have genuine joy in our hearts and love for our mutual hobby, not having succumb (yet) to the harsh realities of adult life that instill in people a strong sense of cynicism and disappointment.

It's an interesting theory. But skimming back through some of the issues of the old Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers manga, which was released concurrent to the release of Scramble City in 1986, Issue #3 sees Megatron standing inside the Season 1-2 undersea base and speaking of the Decepticons then-currently building a brand new fortress called Dinobase, which is Trypticon's Base Mode's Japanese name. The artwork depicts the undersea base as looking like it always did in the show, with no deconstruction or reconstruction going on with it.o.supreme wrote:Big Grim wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Which would also mean that this isn't Season 3 Trypticon, but Scramble City Trypticon, who was retconned by Unite Warriors into instead being an earlier version of the Trypticon who would later be created by the Constructicons in Season 3 (both Trypticons even have not only different cartoon models but slightly different Japanese names, with Season 3 Trypticon being ダイナザウラー "Dainazaurā" and Scramble City Trypticon being ダイノザウラー "Dainozaurā").

I figured that Trypticon would have been destroyed in the off-screen battle between him and Metroplex, and thus in FFOD, the reason why a New Trypticon would need to be built.
Then, Issue #6 sees Dinobase/Trypticon completed ahead of Metroplex's completion in Scramble City, meaning that Trypticon was already done being made prior to the time that the OVA takes place. And when we see the Decepticon undersea base in Scramble City, it looks normal there too.
All this together suggests to me that, while the idea of the first Trypticon being made from the undersea base is a neat idea, it probably wasn't what happened.
After all, we also now know that Galvatron II was given command of the first Trypticon at some point around Scramble City's time. With Galvatron II in charge of Trypticon, Megatron and the rest of his army would still need a base of their own to live and operate in, and I doubt the prideful Megatron would choose to live/work in a base that he himself wasn't in full command of.

True enough, but I tend to keep events in animation separate from manga and comics, in my own head canon anyway. The exceptions being Battlestars & Operation Combination, since these were made following Zone which was the last animated form of the original series (then transferred to manga), and continued the animated continuity, only in Manga form.

I hear ya. As far as I can tell, the only 1980s G1 manga that definitely don't fit with their animated counterparts are Masterforce, Victory, and debatably The Headmasters (that one's kind of a gray area). Though, something like Zone's manga can fit with all the previous cartoons but not with its OVA, so after the Victory cartoon the Zone fiction can go either way with its OVA or its manga chapter (the rest of its fiction was in its story pages).o.supreme wrote:Sabrblade wrote:After all, we also now know that Galvatron II was given command of the first Trypticon at some point around Scramble City's time. I guess because I'm one of the old guys around here, I was confused. I always try to have "composed and measured commentary", I don't think it's a bad thing. I can be cautiously optimistic and look forward to more news about this release. I just think we need to understand there is a wide range between "Meh" and "So awesome you're going to loose control and pee your pants". saying fans on this forum are closer to the latter, is not something I would find complimentary, but I guess that's just me, and just because you don't feel that way about this release doesn't mean you have no joy in your hobby.

However, Triggerhappy had me wanting my first non MP TF in aaaaaaaaaaaages and now this new, super size Trypticon has me actually considering saving a little dough for him. When I saw it, I was actually in a bit of awe because for me, this looks like a perfect upgrade to a classic (practically impossible to get in the UK) toy!

Metroplex was done by the previous brand team headed by Aaron Archer. The current team headed by John Warden is responsible for Trypticon's "G1 with knees" look.DeadCaL wrote:Given what they did to Metroplex, I was expecting something not so literal.

Hope so. That was the price of the last 2 titans, and considering how bulky this guy is, in order to be tall he would have a lot of plastic.
I hope they don't raise the titan class price again though.
He is a shell that folds out o reveal a base so he will be plenty hollow inside. So not as much plastic as you think.
Probably the case. Look at Metroplex. He had one section on his chest that was totally hollow, both his arms were hollow, and of course his shins were hollow so they could become the vehicle bays. I expect similar from Trypticon. Looking closely at the photo, it looks like the arm sections hinge outwards in some way, so I don't think they are in any way connected to a motor for 'walking', but rather part of some fold out transformation step which seems to be independent of the legs. The legs split in half G1 style, so it will spread out for base mode, hopefully in a more satisfying way than G1 did.
But yes, G1 Trypticon was pretty simple. You untabbed the sides from the 'tail/body' section and laid him on his back. That was pretty much it. Split open the legs for 'city' mode, keep them folded up for 'base' mode. Then just rotate the head 180 degrees and flip the backpack pods up to look like buildings for a city, or tilt them forward to make them look like guns as a base.
I hope they broom any electronics and focus on installing more cool gimmicks and a better transformation.

The news crew are actually privy to more than what people might realise.
That being said ... looking at the logs I can see one edit made on the reveal of Trypticon which seems to have changed the dates on all the old news making it look like a new thread.

I have a question.
Why are Galvatron and Megatron standing facing a solid wall. Where they punished for being bad?
The X-ray-effect shows some type of window there, but in reality both those locations are solid panels.

Maybe they're looking into mirrors? I bet Megatron gives himself "pep talks" while staring at his own malicious mug. Galvatron II seems to have put on a few pounds lately, so he might be admonishing his reflection for his lack of control around energon cookies. What's up with the Seeker bunkbeds, though? Starscream is sitting next to his own alt mode!? Also, is he rooming with Thrust and Ramjet now? I thought he'd rather pal around with Thundercracker and Skywarp, honestly, but I guess Dirge is their new bestie.

I'm sure they cackle and admire their evil visages in the mirrors.
And yes, it seems Starscream is now having a sleepover in Ramjet and Thrust's quarters, while Dirge went to visit Skywarp and Thundercracker in the upper decks.
