This was never my list, it is Shajaki's. I just like to keep the conversation going and I would change my opinion for what I wrote earlier now that i know a bit better. I also enver had Soundwave so who knows, he might be the superior one afterall. But i do find Irohide Incredible.

As for the lists I actually wrote, I wouldnt mind updating them but the whole point is I want things to settle and not haveany rececy bias. The MP line is different, its a current line that is always trying to improve (or so you'd hope). So surely if Shajaki redoes this list 5 years from now it will probably be very differet. Unlike say my best helicopter list since there arent that many helicopter molds that come out every year. The number one for that list (skyhammer) is from 5 years ago and nothing has been close to beating that mold since. And I hope to God that I wouldnt need to crown a new number 1 for the Top 10 worst TFs of all time list. I hope the worst is in the past.

How much paint is on Ironhide btw? Is it like everywhere there is red? If I were to want to get him or Ratchet, I wouldn't want to scuff him up on the first week.

I carry him around in my work bag to transform him in transit. He hasnt scratched yet. He is painted everywhere he needs to be and the colour match is so good that I cant tell what is cherry red plastic and what is cherry red paint.

Good to know. I'd love to hear updates on him to help me decide if I want to get him or not. :D

From what I hear, the paint is fine. its the chrome that can war easily. I dont care but it seems like you would. My advice is simple: if you can afford it and you want it, buy it.

I don't care as much about the chrome as the colored paint. When the chrome wears, at the worst it looks like some vehicles when the shiny metal/chrome wears. Hot Rodimus almost seems to be built more for play than Ironhide since it seems to have less colored paint and more colored plastic from what I've heard.

The only part I worry about more than the paint is the hands. I'd probably get the Dr. Wu hands to replace them though if I were to get him.

So far, I have had no trouble with the paint or chrome on mine. I've transformed him quite a few times.

I gotta say that Ironhide is one of my personal favorites. He is a solid figure, aside from the little of hip kibble (only a minor gripe), in bot mode, and he looks really good in alt mode too. I almost enjoy playing with him more than my Soundwave, at times. Can't wait for Ratchet to stand next to him.

As far as mt opinion goes, Soundwave is #1.

Over Ironhide? For some reason, I wasnt going to get all the new MP molds this year but I did. I just got Ironhide and HotRod and Shockwave is in Vancouver right now out of customs. And while I find Ironhide incredible (as a Transformers toy he is perfect, and as the ultimate version of G1 Ironhide he is 99% there), I am not as enthusiastic as you about Hot Rod. Did you find a way to get over the ground clearance issue. I find its the wheels that give me a hard time, they dont move freely enough, even when they are the only things touching the ground. And while I dont have any problem with his legs (I think they are great and sexy!), I do have a problem with how tiny his waist is. It doesnt look or feel right to me. The backpack is not terrible, but it isnt as compact as I would like it and I have an issue with those tall red pieces that come out of his back. Those are odd and they keep reminding you of the back pack's presence. But that's about it. I love his headsculpt and I think the goggles are fun. Oh wait, there is something else but its not as big an issue. I am not a fan of how his arms tab to his back. Thoe plastic pieces look so small. But it fits tight for now, I am just scared of breaking them of the tightness wearing off. But technically that is not a knock against the toy until something happens

Motto: "Fate rarely calls upon us at our moment of choosing."
Weapon: Electro-Sword
5: Hasbro Sunstorm, who was my old namesake. The figure looks awesome, and held together pretty well.
4: Wheeljack. Granted, this one is a bit iffy, given that my version is a KO. Regardless, it's an awesome figure with a cool transformation. However, I wish his chest had more white like the Generations or (and I can't believe I'm saying this) CW versions.
3: Grimlock. Specifically the King version, as that's the only one I have. It looks like it came right out of the cartoon comic, the transformation is awesome, and the light up feature is neat (though not as good as the next entry).
2: Shockwave: Looks awesome, transforms easy, and I love the light-up feature. It's fun (disclaimer: childish action approaching) to walk around the house holding his gun mode like I'm a police officer tracking a criminal, and pulling the trigger and shouting PEW PEW when I come across one of my siblings.
1: Ultra Magnus. A true masterpiece. Has an imposing bot mode, a complicated-yet-not-frustrating transformation, and a cool vehicle mode. Besides the lack of waist-swivel (which I don't mind that much anyway), my only issue with him is the tire clearance for the truck.

Honorable mention: Hasbro Prowl. Looks nice, but transforming it scared me half to death at first, and I feel like the clear plastic tabs near the lightbar are going to snap every time I transform it.

(also, these are the only MP's I have, given the lack of Soundwave on the list)

Ironhide is terrific, and I agree with everything you said. But maybe I'm just not that big a fan of the character himself? I dunno, I was blown away by both modes and the transformation, but he didn't give me butterflies for some reason. No qualms, just not my one true love I suppose

And you didn't already know I have a huge roboner for Hotrod? You should stop by The Shack more often ;)

shajaki wrote:I have now finished my (initial) play around with MP Hotrod.
He. Might be. My... FAVORITE Masterpiece yet. And I do NOT say that lightly.

Out of the box, he's in car mode. And I'm not even kidding, I just starred at it for a good 10 minutes. It's just so friggin sleek! I couldn't take my eyes off that engine block or the rear end, he looked EXACTLY like he did in the movie. I got tingles.

Transforming is exactly like Cobs said. It flows naturally and is a joy. So robot mode, first up: backpack. It doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary to me. And Densh, I'm surprised by you being so taken aback by Hotrod but not Surgio. Rod's feels like a part of his torso, while Surgio's is flat out "a backpack".

Flat chest? Sooooooooooo what? Looks fine to me.
What do I love? Posability is a dream. Arm cannon thingies are somehow more satisfying than MP09. Head sculpt and shades are perfect. The hood panels that become the shoulders, I dunno... just fill him out and give him a real organic look y'know?

My beefs: firstly the wheels. They're smooth and plastic. Bleh. And the hip skirt, whatever you call the front piece (crotch plate?) bugs me that it's one solid piece. These complaints are minor, I %^&*#$@ing LOVE this figure. And I'm almost positive I'm buying a second one just to have in car mode.

Lookit pics!

I am slightly depressed because I feel that Takara might not release a Masterpiece Cliffjumper. :( I mean, they released red Bumblebee, but why not Cliffjumper instead? Seems odd that they'd release an homage that only a handful of people would understand instead of releasing the similar-looking character that almost every Transformers fan knows of.

Remember this?

Image

Since that was in March of 2014 that this was leaked, it seems most likely that this was either cancelled by Takara, or this is some sort of upgrade kit or knockoff that someone made. The former seems more likely.

Is it suppose to lock? I always thought that was an extra joint for pose-ability in the neck, To look up and down more and to add a tilt to it for extra sassy-ness when posed right, Move it forward and turn her head to side and she looks like if Road-rage could chat, you would hear "Say what?"

It's his opinion. Allow him that much wj88. If not for the lack of the neck lock ( :BANG_HEAD: which I wholeheartedly agree in as in the HMR Bandai release of the Macross Valkyries which are smaller partsforming piece of mech godliness where the necks CAN lock) I would also consider the Tracks mold a great MP (especially for Roadrage as Takara feminized her even more)

Track's head locks....sort of. wj88 posits a good point. Rr was remolded to distinguish her from Tracks yet can't have a head locking mechanism? Btw, I'm being fair with the mold as I own both of 'em.But we need to call a spade a spade if needed.

MP-Megs.Very fragile + cosmic rust
MP IH/Ratchet. Awesome winnebago
MP 01. Awesome bluntforce trauma weapon
MP SW
MP-10: If the optics and roof lights were painted......perfect
MP-WJ: What a spicy meataball! :x
MP Tracks/Rr: Too ambitious for it's scale. Above average but not awesome

See my point?

No, it's supposed to float. I don't see the problem here. The joint is tight and it give more posability. I really have no idea why so many complain about it.

ahh, So she is good then, more posability is ok with me,

Any chance the ones you rated higher to lower, being the most and least expensive respectively a coincidence?

It's all come down to personal preference, really. However, common knowledge say that the original MP Megatron is one MP to avoid. Somewhat expensive, maybe, but his proportions are out of wack and his transformation is a nightmare. Plus, it rust and some small parts can instantly break if you are unskilled or not careful.

If you are new to the MP collecting, I could recommend some of those:

MP-01 Optimus Prime, if you dont care about scale nor a perfect vehicle. The robot is HUGe and HEAVY with so much diecast! Plus, the transformation is satisfying and he's one incredible display piece. Bonus point, because of MP-10, any versions are easy to find and can be relatively cheap.

MP-10 Optimus Prime. Correct scale, great vehicle mode, cool transformation. More expensive in general than MP-01 but oh so worth it. However, if you are on a budjet, get MP-01 instead.

MP Soundwave. Especially the Hasbro version that come with (almost) all the cassettes. Him and his minions are all perfect. However, the kid is now insanely expensive. Better get the Takara release and buying the Takara cassettes separately. Be weary of knock-offs though.

MP Sideswipe/Lambor. Prefect vehicle, perfect bot, and a transformation that will surprise you.

And finally, MP Bumblebee. But only if you can get him at a good price. The Daniel figure that come with it is useless and only serve to increase the price. He's also deluxe sized. Still, it's an officail TF that transforma into an officail Wolskvagen Beetle. The transformation is magical and the bot is phenomenal.

Hope that will help!
