DW or IDW?

Postby Evank_Horizon » Fri Sep 28, 2007 1:48 pm

I want to read a recent comics based on G1 characters. I tryed to read the old marvel comics but while they might have been nice at one time, I lost interest after maybe 3 comics. What should I pick? I know DW made one but couln't finish it. Then there's IDW. What series is the best to start with? Does the IDW continuity connect with DW's?

I have read Heart of Steal and War Within. They both were very nice in their own way.

What next?
DW Generation One?
Infiltration?
Spotlights?

I'd say:
1. Infiltration
2. Stormbringer
3. Spotlights TPB #1
4. Escalation

Oh and if you can find it, get the DW Transformers vs GIJo!
That is the best from DW!

Yea but that story is awesome!
They are scared of the TFs and it all plays in WWII, and it's one of the maturest TF stuff I've ever seen!

I'm not touching that one because I HATE DW vs. IDW threads. They're pointless and always end in long drawn out disagreements. In the end, some people liked DW, some people didn't and unfortunately for those who liked it, the stories weren't finished.

Well, the chronological order is kind of complicated because the story kind of bounces around all over the place chronologically (ie: different parts of the Ultra Magnus spotlight take place before Infiltration AND during Escalation). However, things are revealed to the audience in a very thought out and constant stream. So when thinking of the order of the IDW comics, it's best to stick to their release order because that's the order the information was designed to be revealed in.

Oh! thanks alot for that list!

But one thing is making me wonder... when does DW's G! happen? Before comming here to ask, I had read halfway through #1 and found out there both Spike and Buster. And Spike know about Megatron... and there's daniel... What the? Where does this all lead to? (No big spoilers please... Cuz I might read it afterward.)

DWs TF series was set in the time it was released as I remember. Leading up to 2005 where, I suspect, we'd have got a new version of the movie storyline. Doesn't really matter. They are good stories, but wasted opportunities and disappointing that what happened with the company stopped it all happening.
Of the DW stuff I recommend the GI Joe WWII-era crossover, the 2 War Within series (track down the 3 issues of the Age of Wrath if you can as well, they were interesting and inspiring) and the 2 G1 miniseries. The ongoing monthly was ok, but mostly setting things up that ultimately came to nothing.
The IDW stuff has mostly been good. The Spotlights and Megatron Origins series being my favourite so far.
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.
