- Motto: "Small things aren't worth being mad over."
- Weapon: Venom Blaster
In the G1 Transformers series, many characters would suffer one of two fates. They become relegated to background character and eventually become forgotten, or they die/become so injured that they need to be rebuilt or upgraded or something. Makes sense, they're robots, I allowed it. One of the things that always struck me as a little weird though, was that when this happened, they also changed their names.
Obviously this was in an effort for Hasbro and Takara to sell more toys, but it was still an odd phenomenon. Orion Pax needed to be rebuilt, and was renamed Optimus Prime. Megatron was nearly beaten to death, then dumped out in deep space, and was then upgraded by Unicron and became Galvatron. Bumblebee was also so seriously damaged that he evolved like a pokemon and became Goldbug. Even in the Japanese version of the cartoon, the characters Blaster and Soundwave kill eachother, then get rebuilt and renamed into Sound Blaster and Twincast. It's not something that made much sense to me as a kid, and makes less sense as an adult.
Imagine if this practice was implemented in the real world. It would sort of equate to someone renaming themselves after something like a disfiguring accident, coming out of plastic surgery, or maybe even having a prosthetic limb attached. Except for some reason, it seems a lot weirder when you put it into real terms like that.
Like I'd come out of the hospital after having a nose job. Some one I know says hi to me and I'd be like "No! No longer am I "Tyler"! From now on, call me "Reginald!""
It was just a thought that came to me recently. What are your guys' opinions?
