Finally, how do you stop something like that without resorting to a cheap plot device? Unicron, as he stands, is a character that doesn't make any sense. He would have probably been better off as the same size as another Transformer, so that he can actually show other facets of his character besides eating. The problem with that idea, though, is that the part of a Transformers devil was already fulfilled by the Fallen, and Optimus already ripped his face off, so he can't come back.
As for the Solar Harvester, there's no point in using the thing again; the first thing Optimus did when he flew up to the pyramid was to blow up the Harvester (showing that this version of Optimus has brains to back up his fighting prowess). That was pretty much the climax of the movie. Kicking Megatron's and the Fallen's butts was simply cleaning up loose ends.
