can someone tell me how titanic made a load of money ? It wasn't even that good. Transformers and loads of other movies were wayyyyyyyy better.

Uh yeah, and Britney Spears is a talented musician.
Ultra Prime wrote: His vision was a hit the first time. Do you really think things should be changed when the formula he has created with this movie works and is enjoyed and accepted by the movie audience by large? Transformers is his baby now. He has set a bar with this movie and now has a benchmark to go on for future sequels.
The problem with repeating a formula is that people think they can just make one-dimensional carbon copies of the stuff that works and then just cram the rest with filler (ie. every Disney movie after Lion King). Since this movie is already so devoid of substance any further dumbing down would really destroy whatever future the franchise may have.
As fans we should hope that any future movies are better, because if TF2 bombs, TF3 would get much less money and have a huge hole to dig itself out of, provided it's even made.

Chicks. Lots of lonely, under-romanced chicks.

Yeah, because who could have possibly thought a film pandering to the very lowest common denominator would be profitable?
Yes, because I am sure that a film that pandered only to the hardcore fans and was impenetrable to the general public would have been successful! Raised eyebrow
Yeah, because everyone knows that a film with mutidimensional characters and without 2 hours of WB sitcom humor of the masturbation, ethnic stereotype, and bodily function variety wouldn't appeal to anyone but 'hardcore fans'.
That just made my day.

Oops, I mean, "Sup, lil' bitches?"

So why are all those people here who said it wouldn't do it being so quiet now? I thought they were SO sure they were right.

Nah. I always kept faith that it would be good if the story was handled properly. I'll admit the robot designs worked. Although after seeing the movie, I feel let down because the story wasn't all that great. Poorly constructed, plot holes, one-dimensional characters. The only thing I wanted was for the robots to have fully-developed personalities, and save for a few, they didn't. That disappointed me.
I'm happy it's making a lot of money in spite of that; I just wish it had a story that would keep people coming back to it and watching it on DVD for years to come. Hopefully we'll get that for the sequel.

I would love to say YES, but come The Simpson movie, this will sadly be a media memory.
I hate to burst the bubble, and believe me I've seen it 3 times with 2 more schedualed(my nonfan friends need a guide, this even got me lucky once, now I'm going for twice

But The Simpsons are something EVERYONE loves, Titanic, Superman, Spider-Man, none of them had a challange like that.
However I think Line for Line, Play for Play, The Transformers will go down as a much better film. But with it already seen by so many people, the dollar will turn in Homer's favor cutting this spree sadly short. If not for this, I feel like Spider-Man(1), this film would run strong till the holiday season.
However, I would've loved to see the box office competition, if both opened at the same time.

I dunno... when's it come out?
So far, I haven't seen the massive media blitz of advertising like Transformers were given.
And it's quickly missing the "summer movie" boat made of gold.

Very good news. This means the sequel is assured except formality, which Paramount/Dreamworks will no doubt announce soon. While there are some imperfection in the movie, I think it's still solid and I wish to see more TF in future movies.

Wowee.
If it is doing this well, and scoring so well in all demographics, I think we can look forward to the sequel breaking all kinds of records too.
Paramount are now counting all their profits, as they have made back the cost of the film already.
Maybe it will give Pottermania a run for its money in the upcoming weeks.

I wonder sometimes if it will suffer a fate similar to Star Trek Movies. We all know the fan base for trekkies is HUGE, yet all those big fans don't seem to want to pony up the dough for a theatrical version of a show they normally get to see for 1 hour that costs them nothing. I wonder if people won't be seeing this one as much because the fact it's a 90 minute version of the free cartoon they watch weekly. Just a thought.
Another thing I would say is that I don't believe The Simpsons will have as much replay value as the Transformers does by a long shot. Sure I bet it will be funny, but Transformers has that spunk many movies haven't had for years in that entertainment factor. I saw TF again yesterday and I felt more emotional the second time than the first time, and I was hyped the first time! There's just something really great that touches the emotional chord about this movie and is very character driven and just plain fun.
I'm a huge Star Wars fan my whole life, but I must say that even though I liked Revenge of the Sith a ton, I needed to sleep on it and let it set in for a while before I loved it. The second I stepped out of the theaters with TF I immediately fell in love with the movie (and no I won't marry it.) TF is gonna make a mark.

I've seen it 6 times already and I must admit that the original 7 out of 10 that I gave it after watching it for the first time is officially changed to a 9 out of 10. The action is so fast that small things are easily missed. Watching it a few times overs allows you to pick up some finer points. Excellent film on all fronts. WAY TO GO BAY!

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

Right ... so you're measuring success based on the age of a franchise rather than the size of it's fanbase?
