Well I think some fans who want the Bayverse dinos out actually blame the SS86 versions for the delay. I can't say if there's any truth to that, all I know is I would love both sets. I didn't jump on the Platinum set from some years ago for that reason, but my patience is wearing thin. I have all the SS86 leaders so far and will complete the set. My fingers crossed for a red Swoop.Spider5800 wrote:D-Maximal_Primal wrote:Really hope that Grimlock is a sign that the rest of the Dinobots are finally coming!
I'm not holding my breath. It's been what, 2 years now, and we still don't have the G1 SS Dinobots finished? I doubt anything new from AoE or TLK gets released in leader class until 2025 at the earliest.

Understandably so, as they take Leader class slots away from the Bayverse versions. But on the other hand, we haven't even seen early design sketches, much less prototypes or finished products of the AoE Dinobots besides Grimlock. So I'm not sure if this was a hasty decision by Hasbro or if they had planned to put the G1 versions there all along.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:I think some fans who want the Bayverse dinos out actually blame the SS86 versions for the delay.
I do. And considering the original SS86 (which included Grimlock and Slug in 2021) was meant to be WFC Part III instead of the beasts, I think that holds some water.

I get that some Kingdom figures got pushed into SS, creating SS86, but the Dinobots were never even in the Netflix series.

Neither were any figures in Kingdom outside the beasts, Galvatron, arcee, and the Ark. Rodimus didn't show up at all, the only commander not to. And arcee was in the whole series and Galvatron was introduced in Earthrise, so the show wasn't a good indicator for them.

I actually think SS86 was created in part for a way to do G1 leader class Dinobots. If you look at the history of SS versus the main generations line (prime wars, WFC or Legacy) the number 1 biggest difference I see is repaint potential for voyagers and leaders. SS was re-using less than 50% of the leaders and voyagers molds up to the point where SS86 began. The generations line however was re-using almost 100% of the leader and voyager molds in some fashion. The G1 dinobots really only have G2 or SG as an alternate us of the molds, and at $55 a pop a complete set of G2 or SG dinobots would be a pretty big risk, so they went into the SS line which was set up more for single use leader molds.
Just a theory I've had since SS86 first appeared.
Honestly, I like the vehicle mode better than the robot mode for some reason. His chest just seems too small.william-james88 wrote:Man, the origins Jazz is one great toy no notes. It really looks like a 3p toy people would have paid upwards of 50$ not long ago.
Really good work from Hasbro and Takara.

Seriously. If I hadn't gotten one on discount through Target.com I would have canceled it long ago.

This is basically my view even if it's a little reductive. They decided at some point that they were going to do all of the G1 Dinobots in leader class, they knew what was a multi-year effort, and they needed a home for it. It makes less sense to do that across WfC and Legacy or even within Legacy, than to have a dedicated more-or-less evergreen product line. Does it "steal" slots from Bayverse? Perhaps, but the choice to do five leader figures in a relatively short period is arguably as much responsible as the specific branding for the releases.
I've said it before when the Kingdom/SS86 debate first happened, and I think it's doubly true for lines like Buzzworthy: we as a fandom put too much stock into marketing decisions, especially when we don't have the insider knowledge to know how much marketing influences product design versus the other way around.
