Does anyone know if these are going to be available in the U.K, as the old universe line was never released over here at mass retail.
AVAST THERE! Local off the starboard bow! Welcome ye t' the good ship Seibertron (or the Jolly Ryan, as we ought t' be callin' her!). Ye be mindful of those nuts, y'hear? Me bosun was skiddin' all over the deck...Auto Bot wrote:Hasbro has to go back to Classics.
Has to? I believe ye be preachin' t' Hasbro's poncey male-voice choir, since they be goin' back to th' Classics, an' all...
Please don't encourage Hasbro to reapaint old moulds instead of making new ones. And if Swindle gets reapainted as anyone, it's Beachcomber, savvy?Windsweeper wrote:Since they are more than likely going to be Deluxes, I won't be touching the Lambo Bros.
Just hate the lack of scale between Hot Rod and Starscream in the earlier line. If they'd only repainted Cybertron Clocker/Swerve as Hot Rod, I'd be well pleased. I mean, Classics had 2 Primes and Megatrons anyway.
That said, I'd love a nice Voyager Octane. Looking forward to Galvatron too.
Classics need basics even if they are repaints.
Clocker for Hot Rod
Shortround for Seaspray
E Strongarm for Roadbuster
Cybertron Swindle for Ruckus
Overhaul for Crankcase
And while I'm at it, Titanium WW Starscream for G1 Windsweeper

Because we'd probably never see certain characters made if they weren't repaints? Just because toys are more advanced now doesn't mean they cost any less to make. Each mold has a lot of R&D cost associated with it, and if every character had a unique mold you see the lines populated with far fewer figures than we have now.
Repaints are fine, and sometimes they even make the original figure look much better.

It's ok if they make little modifications to the twin toy. NOT just repaint. Like the case of Classics Ramjet. He's done exquisitely good.
But something like Classics Cliffjumper & Movie Allspark Cliffjumper, is a big joke.
I'm sure those small modifications won't cost a lot of R&D.

If they had just remoulded the head on CJ, I would be 100% sold. But I'm buying him regardless.

I thought I had it saved to my pc, but I guess I don't. Damn.
EDIT:- Found it.

Leave it to Dead Metal to have the word 'Pronz' in his signature.

The world is much simpler back then in the 80s. And most of us are kids. Some not even born yet.
So repaints are quite ok during that time. When toys are not as abundant as the modern times.

If we as a fandom don't want to settle for repaints, why do we fill threads like this with hopes for Classics figures that will invariably be repaints? I'm just saying, is all. People hate the repaint parade but then they want Prowl and Smokescreen and a full set of classic seekers.
I don't think the simplicity or birthdates really factors into this. I was born in 1978, but I like the music from the 60s.

By the way, please don't misunderstand me here. I too am rabidly looking forward to the new Universe line, and I love new molds more than repaints, and I do happen to like repaints when they appeal to me. I'm just pointing this out. I'm not anti-Classics or new molds in any capacity. I'm stoked like hell that Galvatron will be a new figure and not a repaint, but I might buy a repainted Classics Megatron named Galvatron because I like the Classics Megatron figure.

I'm NOT ok with pure repaints. Especially for those who should not have been siamese twins. I prefer repaints with some resculpt. CJ is one example. To be an accurate CJ, you have to change the hood, and rear and the head. But i'm not too demanding. If only Hasbro did resculpt just the head, then i'll be satisfied.
For the seekers, Ramjet is a step in the right direction. I love the way he was modified from the Starscream mold. Thrust should be ok too, because you really have to change his wings. As for Thundercracker and Skywarp, they are exceptions, because both were exact twin of Starscream in the cartoons.
Prowl, Bluestreak, Smokescreen. Bluestreak is the only pure stock car. Prowl has the sirens. Smokescreen has the skirts and spoilers. So i hope if they do these guys, they don't just repaint the exact mould without any modifications.
Sideswipe and Sunstreaker have the same alt mode. That's ok. But DON'T make the mistake of giving them the same face and the same transformation. They're very far apart in terms of robot design.
Get the idea?
I'm not starting a new religion to preach repaints are bad. But do it properly. It does not cost much to do minor modifications. As what was done to Ramjet.
CJ's is a case of extreme cost cutting, to squeeze every drop of juice out of BB's mould.
