I would think that any melee based weapon would be the LAST thing you'd want to use against a giant, armored robot. They don't have to wear armor, because they're MADE of armor for cryin' out loud! You'd have to hack and slash at them for hours just to make a dint, and by then they could kill you, burn down your house, swipe your dough, impersonate you, take over your career, and key your car.
There's a reason why swords, clubs and suits of armor went the way of the dodo - and the reason was GUNS.
Lets look at weapons tge other way though. And just to be cheeky, I'll use the 86 Movie. Remember when Megatron attacks? Springer and Arcee Transform Autobot City, and the big blast door closes behind them? Do you remember what DOESNT breach the door? Megatron's Fusion Cannon. You know what does? The Insecticons physically eati g it, scrapinf away at the metal with knives. Brute Force with a scalpel.
Also an acceptable answer: Devastator ripping throuhbthe wall like a Kid on Christmas.
Metal can appearently be hardened to be Laser Resiliant, and as you say They are literally MADE of Armor, but how do you stop the Laws of Physics? If I was another Giant Robot and I knew Lasers were going to sting, but I had this big ass Hammer that could crush joints and mash brains, I might go for the hammer.
Star Trek did the same thing. Want to Kill a Borg? Use Real Bullets. (Or at least tightly condensed particles of light... Uh...)
And speaking of, the Movies suggest that the Transformers are using real shells, possibly reloaded from internally generated armaments, but its arguable since Hound says in TF4 "I'm Out" that there is a finite limit to how many or how quickly they can regrow ammunition. So again, maybe its better to go "Old School"
