Just pre-ordered the sky/slaught case form bbts; I'll be interested to see if it is the running change version with the green chestplate. At first I was agitated that it might be, but the more I look at the grey-chest variant, the more bland it seems to be, and the nicer the green one becomes, the green may clash a little, but it really pops visually, whereas the grey just screams 'cheap' to me 
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

I just preordered one of each as well. I would be okay with either Onslaught color scheme. The green is definitely the better of the two, IMO. I am giving him a G1 Onslaught rifle I am buying off eBay. Hopefully it fits on the turret in vehicle mode.

I prefer the grey-chested one, but I pre-ordered both Sky Lynx and Onslaught(even though I already have Onlsaught). While I only want Sky Lynx out of the two, I'm not paying $40 US (counting shipping) to get one, when I can get both for $15 dollars more (again, counting shipping), so what I'll do is sell Onslaught to my uncle for half the price I paid for both of them, and get Sky Lynx for $27 instead of $40.

Yes and no: it can go there, but the stock of the rifle clashes with Bruticus's "shark fin". What I did with mine is drilled one of Onslaught's screwholes in his shoulders (which end up above the front wheel arches in vehicle mode) slightly larger so the rifle could plug in it.

Thing is, that is believable. all the design work going into all kinds of RiD molds that are only used once, with some occasional repaints, and the combiner wars getting standard molds that are heavily repainted and retooled. I can see it. Same with how when movies come out generations tends to slump a little bit to allow for the movies, and then swing back in full force afterwards

I could have also bought Scattorshot but chose not to, in hopes of the Computron release. No Legends figures in stock yet.
In other news, G2 Silverbolt is tighter where it comes to putting his gun in, and G2 Blackjack doesn't stay on G2 Motormaster (though, G2 Motormaster has the gear fix.)
The comics with Hound/Smokescreen/Trailbreaker/Wheeljack are Combiner Wars #17-20.
