Although I both kind of agree and fear this statement, the same was said about Jet Fire, and I personally have learned to love him despite this. I hope for the same with UM.
This transformation review didn't kill the figure for me, though it does leave me with questions still unanswered. I'm pretty close to certain I'll be getting Magnus via some sale this summer or fall. All will be answered by Emgo.
I do wish I could afford the Takara version because I like the blue better and I actually think the red thighs look nice, but the downside other than price is no Minimus Ambus. I'm curious how well the little guy fills the gap under the head, not that I mind it so much. As I said earlier, I tolerate it with Springer and Sandstorm.
I wish the hands had that half open 5mm cup like Reveal the Shield Tracks. That would have solved the loose gun handle issue. Worst case I'll use a little tape to add some friction, if I even need to. It does look like Magnus holds the hammer just fine, though I wish they would have included a proper hammer along with his rifle instead of this whole assembly thing. I'm not a fan of assembly weapons that don't look exactly like what they are supposed to. It's like Hot Spot's rifles. The G1 figure had two rifles. Defensor had two rifles. So why add a peg to make a ridiculously long riffle that looks like two rifles stuck together? I'll chalk that up to playability for kids and leave it at that. Nothing wrong with doing things for the kids, we need them to purchase these toys too.
As for the hollow thighs, doesn't bother me at all, and maybe Reprolables will produce a sticker set that covers them up like Jetfire's forearms. I just hope they don't go overboard and take the upgrade out of my price range.
Speaking of Reprolables and Jetfire, now I wish I took advantage of the end of the year sale to get the big hollow guy. That Skull Leader sticker set is awesome and I totally want a Leader Jetfire now so I can apply that set. Classics Voyager Jetfire will always be my Skyfire. That mold has some minor posing issues but otherwise is close to perfect, except for being Voyager instead of Leader. I wish Hasbro would have upscaled that and fixed all the little things to make it perfect, but I get why they went with the new mold.
Long story short, I'm a happy camper.
