One of the people that edited the TFWiki article (and has since been removed) claimed it was gold plastic covered in gold paint.

Has Gold Plastic Syndrome even been a problem with toys manufactured in the past 20 years!? I think Hasbro and Takara Tomy learned there lessons on that before the turn of the millennium. Every time gold colored plastic pops up now, people recoil in horror. Has GPS just traumatized that many people? It's okay! It can't hurt you now!

I can only think of one singular recent instance of gold plastic getting used that didn't cause a panic: ER Sky Lynx. You'd think if it was that much of a concern, people would have freaked out about it's presence on an $80 figure rather than this repaint fellow.
And speaking of Sky Lynx, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing one of the TFW leakers/factory guys say Roritchi's plastic is the exact same as Sky Lynx's lynx head while I was observing the Kingdom leaks, so unless someone's Sky Lynx has had it's jaw explode or disintegrate or something, Roritchi should be fine.

It may not be traumatic but when you have an extensive collection of figures 30+ years old and you go to move them for whatever reason and they crumble to pieces in your hands, then yes, it's frustrating, given that finding a replacement will not be easy to come by.

There is no gold plastic on Sky Lynx, it's all paint. If you look in the gap behind the Lynx head you can see where they couldn't get paint in around the sides of the joint socket, it's white plastic.
As for GPS being gone, every time we think that, it ends up rearing it's ugly head again. The most recent case I can find is really Silver Plastic Syndrome, apparently Unite Warrior Motormaster likes to snap in half thanks to his swirly silver plastic.

And most likely it's a waste of time since the replacement is just as likely to fall apart on you eventually to. I saw a Japanese G2 Electro on Mandarake a few years ago for under $20 that was really tempting, but I didn't expect it to survive shipping overseas. They've also listed US and EU versions for under $30 MOC, but still doesn't seem worth the annoyance.

I experienced GPS live. Once because I was a dumb-ass with my Pretender Roadblock (duuurrr, let's put the gun into his tiny gold hand!) but the other was a surprise. I transformed normally my X-Over Millenium Falcon. When I was at the Chewbaca part, he ASSPLODED.

Happened to me with T30 rattrap and tm megs, it was very traumatizing to me as a child as megs was not only my favorite bw fig, but also a gift for my birthday

That one was a terrible double whammy combining questionable plastic and misassembled pelvis joints. Hard to say if the plastic would have held up or not, seems like ones that were assembled correctly or repaired ahead of breaking are holding up, but time will tell.

My first experience with GPS was BW Grimlock from '97. But it didn't break years later, it was the very next year in '98! Chunks popped out of his lower legs like puzzle pieces. GPS wasn't really a term at the time so I had no idea what was going on. Years later, in fact only two or three years ago, it was Magnaboss Silverbolt that crumbled on me when combining them. I thought I was being so careful, too. Never should have tempted fate. I'm afraid to handle my favorite BW figure, Torca, for fear of him disintegrating in my hands. Same with one of my favorite Beast Machines figures, Snarl (really wish I bought the black repaint).

My only experience with GPS was G2 Slingshot. I bought him brand new I was 16/17 at the time and wanted to get as many of the combiners as I could because I missed out on the originals. I transformed him twice and he crumbled, I don't know why I never thought to purchase another (probably a good thing I didn't but...)
In any case, yes with modern materials, this should not be an issue, as stated by emgo, (and you can see in his video) Roritchi looks stable, just suffers from a new problem RFS (Repaint Floppiness Syndrome)

...okay, well I don't actually have Sky Lynx, so I didn't realize it was painted.

Hopefully that means the same thing of Roritchi though, for those getting him.

My G2 CW Slingshot is put away right now. I cant remember if it was molded in Gold Plastic, or painted, but it didn't seem to have any issues.

As stated before, GPS can be devastating once you notice one of your figures has it, but current cases have been few and far between. Plus, it's mostly limited to just parts instead of the whole figure (G2 Slingshot and BW Neo Randy come to mind).
The youngest confirmed case is Unite Warriors Motormaster from 2015, followed by RotF Stratosphere from 2009, then Protoform Starscream from 2007, SW TF Millenium Falcon and General Grievous from 2006, and Cybertron Repugnus and BW 10th Anniversary Dinobot from 2005.
Current "Gold Plastic" is actually a flat color or matte, no metallic flake that's the root cause of the breakage.

Yeah, we might want to tighten up what we call "gold plastic syndrome" just a bit.

It seems like people are blaming it for any sort of plastic rot or breakage they experience. GPS was a pretty specific issue with a pretty specific color and treatment of plastic back in the days that has ruined most afflicted toys of that era forever. Nowadays, it can be because of other materials used, like 2007 Movie Legends Scorponok's rubbery tail, or factory misassemblies, like Masterpiece Beast Wars Megatron, or just poor quality production runs or one-off errors that a figure fails and breaks.
As for "repaint floppiness syndrome," I hear this so often touted as "mold degradation," when it's probably nothing of the sort. I've seen people complaining that the second use of a mold, which is likely the first repaint in the same line, already allegedly has degradation or floppiness. Just as often, though, the second use of a mold can be even tighter in the joints than the first. The real variable at play is what plastic is used, which changes the tolerances for all the joints in the figure. A different color of plastic may be softer, firmer, or expand differently at certain temperatures than those used for the initial run of a figure. It can even be the case of different runs of the same figure. Sometimes, the plastic used is just a bit different in terms of its chemical make-up and mixture, and that can make all the difference between a loose and a tight fitting ball-in-socket, pinned, or friction joint in plastics.

In some cases, mold degradation can occur not specifically from multiple frequent reuses of a single mold (e.g. - the exhausting amount of the Classics Seeker mold's reuses), but also from simply the second or third use of a very old mold that hasn't been used in a long time.
Case in point, the Generation 2 Hero Optimus Prime and Hero Megatron molds first saw use in 1994. They were going to get redecos in the next year or so as Combat Heroes, but those never got past the packaged sample stage. Years later in 2003, both of those molds saw their second ever release at retail after nine years of inactivity for either mold, in which they were released as KB Toys exclusives in the waning 2001 Robots in Disguise line as the Destructicons Scourge and Bludgeon.
And when these second uses of the molds happened, both Scourge and Bludgeon proved to be very floppy and loose (e.g. - Scourge's left hand slides in and out of his arm freely instead of staying put, while Bludgeon's torso is all loosey goosey by always folding up and down too easily instead of staying in place in robot mode) when compared to their original releases, and these were only the molds' second uses, but came nine years after their first uses.

That may be true, but it's not quite what I'm talking about. I'm focusing more on same-line repaints, like Earthrise Prowl and Bluestreak, or PotP Jazz and Ricochet. It wasn't years in between that those molds got used to make multiple different characters. I wonder, though, how much the mold creating technique and technology has changed since G1/G2. Maybe more modern molds keep better over time? Maybe they stand up better to repeated uses? There's so many variables at play, and we rarely get an in-depth explanation of how the toy manufacturing process works and the history of it all.

Pulse will stock it no matter what to be fair, look at God Neptune or Super Megatron. Can't see any other retailer taking a gamble with a niche titan retool.
