A Spartan in black and red armour crouched behind a fallen pillar, rising frequently to fire the assault rifle he carried in both hands. Unlike most other Spartans, this one did not wear the standard MJOLNIR class armour. Instead he wore a set that resembled a Japanese design, known as the HAYABUSA, the rival to the MJOLNIR production line. During the Human-Covenant war, this particular Spartan was taken back to command, to be outfitted with the armour he wore now, meaning he survived. Now he was leading squads out to various outposts to mop up remaining Covenant resistance.
He rose again, steadying his rifle, only to dive back, as a huge, blue ball of pure energy flew just above his helmet. He signalled to his marine companions, and one disappeared behind a wall. There was a slight rustling to the left of his little barricade. He turned his attention that way, and a small grunt, plasma pistol glowing, stumbled quietly into view. It was obvious the little alien had not yet seen him, so he decided to save ammunition, and dragged the grunt behind his cover, and proceeded to knock it unconscious. The Wraith fired again, another ball of energy sailing overhead. Project HAYABUSA took the grunt’s plasma pistol, for he heard a slight humming. Ghosts. The humming got louder, and HAYABUSA charged up the pistol. The Ghost was suddenly silent, and the Spartan winced as he heard just how obvious the noise of his pistol was. He leaped over the fallen pillar, and fired off a green blast, immobilising the scout craft. Aware of the amount of fire the Covenant were directing at him, he grabbed the grunt pilot, killing him with another blast from the pistol. Jumping into the seat of the Ghost, his AI immediately instructing him in the use of the craft. He sped back behind the wall, and turned. Seeing the Wraith, HAYABUSA almost panicked, but managed to stay calm. The tank was close. There was no way it could miss if it fired again.
The Spartan readied himself. There was an explosion, but he felt nothing. He looked back to the tank, and saw only a flaming wreck. Turning to his marines, he saw the one who had disappeared. He had returned with a rocket launcher. HAYABUSA checked with his satellite feeds in his AI, and realised that the small squad was heavily outnumbered, and they were running low on ammo.
Just before he could request armour support, a Warthog raced past him, machine gun blazing, cutting down the huge numbers of brutes before them. HAYABUSA went to thank the crew…before realising there was none. The vehicle must have been remote controlled, because there was no driver, no passenger and no gunner…
Then another shot from a Wraith blinded him, and he fell unconscious. The shouts of his marines echoed around his mind.
“We lost the Spartan!”
“HAYABUSA is down! HAYABUSA is down!”
Terrible, I know. I have no idea what possessed me to write it. Depending on how well you Seibertronians receive it, I might put up the second part.
