Agreed, in fact, I'm working on my own now. I'm surprised at how many movieverse figures fit the bill. I've got TomaHawk repainted as pre-Beast Waspinator and he looks great, I simply swapped the head on SkyHammer to make him Optimus Primal (I used the head from Takara's Telemocha Optimus Primal) and I'm repainting Terradive as Terrorsaur.

I bought a ton of other movie toys to do the same with possibly, depending on how they look in-hand. One issue is that if you actually look at most of the few glimpses we get of their pre-Beast forms in the show, it looks like they don't transform at all, as though they only gain transformation capabilities after going to another world in order to blend in (copying either indigenous technology or wildlife), which kinda makes sense, but aside from Action Masters, there aren't too many TF's that don't transform. I might share some pics of my customs eventually if I ever get a camera .

A deserving winner. Next time I know to vote for a more obscure character, like Sky-Byte or Lugnut.

I hope so, but I doubt it . The 10th anniversary Hasbro version is the one I have from Beast Wars (which I repainted some to make it more show accurate, beyond even what Takara did with their Telemocha version) and I also have Animated Waspinator+TM Waspinator.

Their classics Cheetor and Dinobot didn't sell too well (Dinobot because his coloring was horrible, though Takara's was decent, which is the one I have).

I keep hoping for more Beast Wars love from Hasbro/Takara, but with Prime looming after the movies are done, I don't see it happening unless there's a huge demand for it from the fanbase (maybe the HoF victory will be enough, but I doubt it).

I like how all the Beast Wars guys are like 'only our series has character' when Simon Furman gave so much character to Grimlock. This also implies that Generation 1 characters do not have any characterization. Well, maybe Waspinator goes in vicariously because he was possessed by Starscream. Beast Wars fandom is so full of itself sometimes. Yes, some GEEWUNERS have the reactionary trucks not munkkies thing, but as I said before, I hate it when people dismiss Generation 1 because they only watched the first and second season and maybe the movie and then make up their mind about the series from that. Ultimately, there are going to be branches of fandom who think their jumping on point was better than the original. Technically, I grew up on Beast Wars, RID, and the Unicron Trilogy, but I love Generation 1 the most. I also love UC Gundam more than Gundam Wing (my first Gundam). I just hope next year we can get Nightbeat on the list. He is Waspinator without the whole I am indestructible thing.

Ah, you bring up the same point I did. Let me explain again... I LOVE G1. However, I did not grow up with the comics. Yes, in the comics the characters are brought to life much better than they were in the cartoon. In some cases, comic interpretations even contradict their cartoon counterparts (looking at you Grimlock.) Any of the G1 nominees would have been a worthy winner, but so is Waspinator. Honestly... if he had been a G1 decepticon that turned into a hyundai excel or something, we would not even be having this discussion.

And for the record? I own all seasons of G1 along with quite a bit of the Japanese stuff that came afterwards. I still stand by my vote for Waspy. Would be nice if he got an updated universe figure.

There is a large part of the fanbase that hasn't had exposure to the comics, and comics aren't the most lucrative of media sources in general. Most of us base our 'this-is-better-than-that' off of the cartoons (and toys, but not for characterization). Beast Wars then does have more character than G1 (and a lot of other series. I have watched every series but Cybertron in its entirety, aside from Japanese only series, to base my opinion on).

I too think Waspinator needs a good toy, but then so does Rhinox, Terrorsaur, and many other BW characters.

Before Grimlock, really? This is like bad American Idol.

Throwing in my two cents here. While I do like the novelty of Beast wars, I never did think they did much for the franchise. If you look at the cartoon and the toy line it was shorter and less popular world wide (Japan for example I think turned it into Transformers:Car robots.... but don't quote me on that) than G1. As far as comics go they were treated as a G1 Future. The toys were not as big of a selling point as other versions of the cartoon either. Voting in Waspinator is kind of a joke for what it is. Part of the reason people remember him so well is because there were so few characters for the Beast Wars series. I would have honestly considered voting in a Beast Wars character if it was a bit more serious to the story line such as Tigertron, Air Razor, or Blackarachnia. Personally I would have liked to have seen a G1 character such as Shockwave or Jazz make it in before a comic relief character from Beast Wars / Animated. Heck we should have even considered Bayverse before Waspinator only because of the recent popularity. Again I would like to note that I would have rather seen a Beast Wars before a Bayverse character only because I truly dislike the designs for a majority of the Bayverse transformers.

To me, getting into the hall of fame for anything (sports, movies, etc) means that you contributed something to that area and that you have put in the time. Waspinator just didn't do that as much as a G1 that cartoons, comics, and movies are based around.

I think it would've been better for a set number of characters to have gotten in on the first round, like Jazz, Shockwave, Grimlock and others. Same with the humans. Still not sure why it was only Spielberg and Bay.

Well. Beast wars did span 3 years, with over 100 figures and 52 episodes plus a sequel series (Beast Machines with 26 episodes). Japan also added in 2 Beast Wars series on top of that with Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo for another 78 episodes.

Beast Wars was a G1 future from the beginning. Season 2 and 3 tied heavily into G1 (and even in season 1 we had the episode possession where Waspinator was possessed by Starscream's spark).

Just the fact that there is still a strong following for Beast Wars and demand for the figures should tell you that it was quite popular. It revitalized a dead Transformers franchise and showed how storytelling is done right (a method that would be adopted later with Animated and Prime, both very reminiscent of Beast Wars episodic styling).

Waspinator was a joke in Beast Wars, yeah. He was comedic relief, but what has Grimlock really contributed to the franschise that Waspinator hasn't? 'Me Grimlock dumb' really isn't a big contribution. He is a great character, and I love Grimlock to death, but he is as shallow a character as Waspinator can be viewed as (there are a lot of people who hate Grimlock by the way). Waspinator was the guy you rooted for every episode even though you knew he was going to loose.

Good point El Duque. A lot of the characters in G1 came from the toy tech specs, which were a ton of G1 that made its way across a lot of the following series.

I don't get why people keep saying Bay doesn't deserve to be inducted into the HOF. He's the reason why Transformers is popular as heck right now! Without him bringing life back into the franchise, you wouldn't be seeing all this great TF stuff that are a result because of the movies.

The reason I feel this way is because Michael Bay doesn't appear to be a Transformers enthusiast like us, or the guys who voiced lots of the characters we loved. To me, hes just another big hollywood money lover who saw a new franchise to take advantage of. Did good come out of it? sure, but it IS Transformers, don't give him all the credit for it being awesome.

Actually, Spielberg sparked the idea. He brought Michael in and Bay had to get thoroughly indoctrinated before he was let loose on the project. Steven could have picked anybody to let loose on this and whoever else he may have chosen would have had to go through the same Hasbro Boot-Camp that Bay did and I'm willing to bet money that none of the other folks would have deviated so far from the roots of the franchise as what he did. Spielberg should have gotten the induction and not Bay. I'm not saying I'm one of "those fans" who hates Bay and thinks he "raped my childhood" with how much he changed things, I'm a TF fan and above all else and I don't give a damn who captains the ship so long as the ship keeps sailing. I was just pointing out that Spielberg keeps getting over-looked when, in fact, these movies were his idea.

Well. G1 did span 5 years, also with over hundreds of figures and 108 episodes plus sequels that were also only aired in Japan.

I think it should also say something that there is still a strong following for the G1 and a demand for its figures. I don't think the Transformer franchise ever died, I just think that Beast wars brought a new spin on it for a new generation (much like Armada and even Bayverse).

Grimlock is just a poor example. I would not have voted for him either given the choice between him, Jazz, or Shockwave. Although I do have to admit his comic book renditions did bring new found respect for the character.

For what it's worth, I'm glad Waspinator won. The only other animated character in any show with as long or longer of a track record of "deaths" in a single season is Kenny from South Park so I think Waspinator totally desrved to win.

I will vote for any good character that comes along. Had the BW nominee been Scorponok (Who'd probably get lumped into an over branching Scorponok nomination like all the different Optimus Prime's did), Quickstrike or Silverbolt, I'd have put all my votes in for Grimlock, but Waspinator holds a special place in my childhood, and I still get a kick out of him to this day watching those old beast Wars episodes.

Wazzpinator make it into Hall of Fame! Mabye now Wazzpinator not get blown up all the time?

Silliness aside, this is fantastic! The fact that our favorite little punching bag beat Grimlock is suprising, but i'm not going to complain. Wazzpinator happy at last.

IMO, next to Erector, Waspy is the least deserving candidate for the hall of fame. Seriously, Waspinator was picked over Devastator? Rodimus Prime? Ultra Magnus?

I agree with you wholly. I am just raging against all the Beast Wars guys who immediately starting flaming about this saying outlandish things like Grimlock having no character. Yes, Grimlock's character contradicted the cartoon, but even the cartoon contradicted the cartoon. Season 1 and 2 Dinobots were something to be feared. Movie and season 3 Dinobots were comic relief which was ultimately for the best I think. Also for all the funniness Waspinator is about, you cannot deny that Nightbeat is a better 'kill' character all around. Sorry if I seem butt hurt over this, Waspinator is a really fun character. Also, Waspinator's Animated toy is the Sh*t so do not feel left out of classics. Blitzwing fans also feel your pain. Which brings me to my next point... what character got advice from a football coach on war and also betrayed the Decepticons to save them... Blitzwing for 2012!!!

Did not see this coming at all. I expected either Grimlock or Shockwave to get in. That said, I voted for Waspinator and I'm glad to see him win. As a BW fan I love the inductions we've received the last two years, and I can't wait to see what comes next. I have no doubt that our favorites from G1 will also get in over the years, so hopefully anyone upset that their favorite didn't make it in can just chalk it up for next year. I'd love to see Megatron (BW) or Optimus Primal get in as the next Beast Wars characters inducted. Can't wait to see next years line-up!
