While I don't have any of the Power Core Combiners. It seems like Core Volcanicus is going to be about the same height as Siege or ER Voyager Optimus Prime. I get that for core class it's fine. But if the seemingly inevitable Dinoforce retools do happen, this is truly bittersweet. They will likely sell well, but even so, we likely won't get any other versions of them any time soon. A Core Class Dinoking... again, it would be toy-accurate in terms of size

But it would be wrong for fiction. It took Hasbro 33 years to fix their mistake with the Original Scorponok. It's a shame they couldn't do the same for the Monster Pretenders/Dinoforce.

I mean, from what I can tell they're gangmolded with the elbows and hips among other parts, so they must be a different plastic, the kind used for joints, but still, was there no other option other than making more parts of Crosscut black then planing them red?

I had the same thought about him being a lateral move. He trades gimmicks in for somewhat more free articulation and a real left hand, but that's about it. And he can't even use the hand as well as you might like due to the tail still being permanently attached to the arm. I do still want to get him at some point, just for the play potential he does have, but the reissue original is higher-priority.King Kuuga wrote:God I'm loving the hell out of Megatron. Here he is with last year's Kingdom Leader Megatron, representing the same character. Legacy is bigger in both modes, and much smoother and more fun to play with. Kingdom was.... Not great, I felt that even at the time. He's a lateral move from his original figure. Transforming it for these pictures was unpleasant.

While both are in need of a Commander re-do (undersized cab robots on both, though felt more keenly on Optimus, Optimus' trailer being a shadow of what the G1 toy offers and scaling better with the freakin' Classics Deluxe, Magnus' trailer only holding two cars tops and the tweaks to make Kingdom's altmode slightly more G1 being kinda a joke), Magnus coming first would make sense since 1. he's more associated with the movie, and 2. Legacy Evolution is already getting a Commander Optimus Prime in the form of Armada Optimus, so doing Magnus first stands out more.Overcracker wrote:SS Commander intrigues me.
While I can understand it being SS-86 Magnus, part of me wonders if Hasbro isn't doing an actual SS-86 Prime in Commander Class.
By all accounts Earthrise Prime is pretty much SS-86 Prime, but one can argue the same thing about Kingdom Magnus.
Mmm, both Leader-class takes on Ultra Magnus have had substantial tradeoffs; this is a chance for overall improved accuracy and play value. A Commander-class Ultra Magnus would be able to have a larger, more accurate trailer with better carrying capacity than either the CW version or the WFC versions, and an articulated connection to the trailer that the WFC version lacks. And it would be able to have the base & repair modes the original toy is capable of, maybe even the head + breastplate minijet although I don't consider that entirely likely.Overcracker wrote:The Commander Class is puzzling, as they have proven they can make a Magnus in Leader Class, and it still works fine. Not sure I can find any valid reason for it being Commander Class.
You say "This soon", but... strictly speaking the last fully new Ultra Magnus was in SIEGE, which back in 2019. Kingdom was just a tweaked rerelease of that, and even that was in a line of two years ago at this point. The Magnus we got last year was a Diaclone/SG redeco (and also an exclusive).Overcracker wrote:If this were a new G1 Prime mold that is both larger and more detailed, that could be used as a Magnus inner robot, it might make a bit more sense. Maybe Magnus is the pretool to a brand new Prime.
I just don't see them doing another Magnus this soon and not a Prime too.
The possibility, but I think it's a faaaaaaairly minute one. If it was a Pulse exclusive, maybe, but I don't think retailers would be impressed.Overcracker wrote:Of course there's always the possibility it's just Kingdom Magnus with a bunch of accessories to make up the price difference.
While that's true enough... doing him as a cartoon-flavor OSKO of Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus wouldn't offer as much play value as a separate cab robot would and they do try to pack a good bit of play value into Commander-class figures.ZeroWolf wrote:If it were Titan class I may have joked it was a transforming autobot city playset
Also I wouldn't expect a white prime from ss86 ultra magnus, as pointed out, there wasn't one in the toon

Think of it like how the original Classics line was only supposed to be a filler line that lived and died from 2006 to 2007. Its sheer popularity led it to take on a whole new life of its own, with Universe serving as a direct continuation and expansion. So too has Studio Series 86 surpassed its original intention.o.supreme wrote:It's odd because as its generally accepted that SS86 was borne simply out of not having enough slots to fit everything in the annual Generations Mainline.

Based on what? It's just as likely if not moreso he'll be in the 2024 mainline instead.o.supreme wrote:william-james88 wrote:Commander G1 Prime will be a thing, we just don't know when exactly. Likely in the SS86 line at some point.
How is it odd when that purpose still exists, thanks to Legacy continuing to give space to non-G1 figures? I'd argue that's why SS86 has been continued and expanded, in fact.o.supreme wrote:It's odd because as its generally accepted that SS86 was borne simply out of not having enough slots to fit everything in the annual Generations Mainline.
Don't overthink it - plenty of them still are (including the SIEGE and ER versions of Ironhide, because SS86 Ironhide is a failure joke waste of plastic). But some, namely Kingdom UM & the Kingdom repack of ER Arcee, were just rush-job stand-ins so that they had some sort of representation of the movie-introduced characters on the shelves for the 35th anniversary.o.supreme wrote:Still while I thought some Siege, and certainly ER and Kingdom releases (of characters that appeared in the 86 Movie) were "good enough" stand ins for SS86, it seems that certainly isn't the case (SS86 Ironhide for example).
There, I solidly agree with you.o.supreme wrote:However, while we may get things like a "clean deco" Siege Springer in SS86. Japanese exclusive and it's rather pricy. How about something a little more reasonable?
