Maybe this next trilogy will be the conclusion of the "Geewun Trifecta". The trilogy of trilogies. Then maybe in 4 years we will finally have something TRULY original at last?

Well, you'll have to if you truly want it. Maybe get the leader on sale then get the labels?
I know I won't wait for a sale and will go all out with the upgrades like I did for ER Optimus.
Furthermore, maybe this Legacy release will make the Maketoys Battle Tanker upgrade for the old RTS deluxe even cheaper.

Umm ... I don't think I have much of an opinion on any of that. For me it's more like, I have a Marvel Legends Cable figure, and a Marvel Legends X-Man figure, and they're two different guys named Nate Grey with the same genetic heritage from two different universes. They're two different guys, not just two versions of the same guy. There's no reason they can't exist in the same universe, and they often do, though not at the moment for very complicated reasons.

Unless we get involved media explanations, I'm going to assume the Arcees are just two unrelated characters with the same name, but even if they're not, they're still two different characters with different personalities. It's certainly possible we'll see Prime Arcee pop up in the new IDW continuity at some point too.

Shame about no Blaster. Definitely getting Laser Prime, and maybe Drag Strip (looks neat, but I don't like Menasor and it would feel weird to get only one of the components) and Prime Arcee

General thoughts -

Laser Optimus - Somebody mentioned the legs and to stop doing them, but I remember being told he was retooled from ER/KD Optimus Prime so to me that almost MEANS reusing the legs lol. Anyway, I won't be getting this version, but I'll definitely be getting Black Convoy.

Dragstrip - Definitely ain't combiner wars. Will be doubling down on Stunticons.

Arcee - I like Prime, I just don't know that I need this Arcee for my shelf headcanon. The more I write about it the more it's just an alternate universe version I'll end up getting because I love alternate universe stories.

Kickback - Thus far, my favorite from the line! I don't have any Insecticons at all, so he's a must.

We already know about Skids and Bulkhead, but NO BLASTER?? WTH!

So I'm thinking the Combiner gimmick will center around the core character. Figure Motormaster will probably come with a trailer that will transform into some kind of frame for the rest of the Stunticons to plug into. Like that set of Constructicons from New Age.

Pulse preorders have none of these (except Bulkhead for some reason) coming out until next JULY, yikes.

Guess there's still plenty of time for Kingdom Wave 5...

The only thing I preordered was Galvatron. I'm skipping Ravage (in the hopes there'll be a second run) and waiting for the Emperor's Throne 3.75 and Classified Zartan since they'll be on day of purchases. I guess I'll preorder Kickback and Dragstrip, but honestly, I' know I'll see them in store.

EDIT: Went ahead and got Kickback and Dragstrip on pre-order.

Galvatrons missing Sludge for some reason yet it includes Snarl, better price than Ravage (and egads on the mmpr pig price) but think i'm just going to pass on most things and await the Joes. Definitely seems like some of the prices got hiked up.

This is it, yes. We haven't had a single original thought since Beast Wars (though Bayverse was a significant tangent, but people still whined it wasn't Geewun enough). The line has STAGNATED. It's the same damned thing over and over. And the "celebration" of TF Prime's anniversary? G1 styled Prime figures. Yay. I'm truly hoping that this line fails and results in something new, original, and completely different. Sequel to Beast Machines? Transtech? Origins of the Autobots? Sequel to Unicron trilogy (crap, they left that WIDE OPEN)? A line without Seekers, ProwlSmokeStreak, SideStreaker, BlasterWave. The Great Upgrade and its history? Something completely and utterly new? It's like no one can have an original thought anymore...TV, music, movies, toys. What we've seen so far has been very average. I want to be wowed by these lines like I used to.

Something Blackarachnia said in BW keeps popping into my mind: "Great War Three". If the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons was the first Great War and ended shortly after the hate plague, what was the Second Great War? Is that what caused the Great Upgrade? Another loss of energon on the planet...the 'Cons end up controlling most of it under new leadership and the result is the Great Upgrade by the Autobots as they turn to Maximals and are no longer "archaic energon guzzlers" as Purple Megs refers to them before blasting Op Prime at the end of BW season 2. What's the bridge AFTER G1 but BEFORE BW? So much unexplored mythos and what do we get? More G1 and Geewunning figures that weren't G1 to Geewun some more.

Look, I enjoyed G1. But isn't almost 40 years of it enough?

As a guess... cost and practicality They wanted to keep the panels because they tab into the forearms to hold the cab down onto the legs, so would have had to retool just the port off, but leave the panels. Seems unnecessary when the port doesn't affect anything in either mode, and provides an extra port for the gimmick of the line: Weaponizers.

Only wanted to preorder Galvy and I managed it. Hooray! Kickback and Ddragstrip can wait until EB Games gets the preorder in.

For older fans, sure, but that's the point, they are older fans who pay for nostalgia, hence the seemingly stagnant nature of all this. But if you are a kid, then the world of Transformers has kept refreshing itself just as Beast Wars did. Rescue bots brought in a whole new set of characters (both robot and human) and a whole new concept to Transformers, where it's not a war storyline but instead a rescue show. It is still to this date one of the most novel parts of the brand as well as the first series to explore a different age group for both media and toys, bringing about a completely new transformation aesthetic. It's the reason my kid likes Transformers today and it's what I gift people at baby showers (let the others bring onesies).
Plus there was RID, which also had a ton of new characters, concepts, aesthetics, alt modes and transformations. RID Thunderhoof is one of the most random but awesome toys ever made. A tractor that turns into a mobster posing as a woodland deer god. Now that's an original thought.

You ok man? You've been out of sorts lately, at least it seems that way, with you just trying to tell people they are wrong instead of taking a moment to see what they mean.

I get what Gauntlet means and I agree. With the change to the ER legs, the flaps revealing a peg hole don't line up in the middle, so there's a lack of symmetry there that we'd rather not have ad it feels vestigial. So the effect (and look) in alt mode is not the same. If the Laser Prime mold used the Siege legs, and the flap peg hole for the trailer, then it would make more sense and look better.

This isn't criticism of the product line and franchise direction, it's a complaint about narrative and media. That's all well and good, but finishing decades-old stories is not a good example of franchise innovation.

I also reject the complaint that there have been no meaningful product lines or continuities, no original ideas outside of G1, with a single word counter-argument:

I know it's accurate to the original toy, but I really hate Laser Prime's fake chest windows. I have enough Primes as it is, so I think I'm going to skip this mold unless there's a Selects Toxitron or something.
