I still am bamboozled. Here's a theory: Prime fans have been asking for new figures for a while now. To attempt to make them happy, Hasbro made new prime figures, as long as they were pre-tooled to be easily made G1 characters too. (personally, that road rocket is bad, and prime fans don't love the arcee, so the scheme kind of failed)

so basically-
Hasbro on the arcee/road rocket mold: I'm glad we got them both to shut up, now they are happy!

Prime and G1 fans actually: https://i.imgur.com/Aha61s9.gif

The high kicks and other significant departures the Takara series took, led me to think it would not have translated very well.

First revealed in late-2021 at Hasbro Pulse Con 2021, Legacy is a 2022 toyline for the approaching 40th anniversary of the Transformers brand, featuring characters from across multiple series.
Each of the non-"Generation 1" characters are updated with a Generations aesthetic to fit with the rest of the toyline, most evident with the toys based on Prime.

The mission statement of the Legacy Line. No need for theories, it is in black and white.

Hasbro always has an anterior motive

For example:

What Hasbro says: We want to create 1-step changers so kids can experience the speed of transformation, as it happens onscreen

What Hasbro really means: We want to get cash off parents by creating cheap and lazy toys.

"G1-ifying" these figures is the lazy part. This line is using moulds and assets from the last - WFC. So it is cheaper for them to incorporate other lines into those moulds.

I would like "G1-ified" characters from other lines, because I am bias for built like a brick transformers. But they are definitely going about it the wrong way.

Honestly, the one idea that I would love as a figure, either fully accurate, or slightly G1-ified, is Samurai Prowl from Animated. The C.O.M.B.A.T. system would work extremely well to make it and I think it could work as a Deluxe+ Voyager. Plus, if they wanted, they could also repaint it into G1 Prowl's color scheme with maybe a red/orange sword instead of the blue for a Selects release

Alternately, Hasbro could cheapen out and just release Earthrise Prowl in black and gold and call it "Animated Universe Prowl".

Which would still look nice, but wouldn't be Animated Prowl.

I really wish Hasbro would have worked a deal to have the then current voice cast dub the Headmasters series at the time in 1987. My guess is that importing the finished animation and dubbing 39 episodes would have been not much more cost (perhaps even less?) than commissioning AKOM to animate 3 last episodes as "The Rebirth".

I would have loved it as a kid, so would my peers as we were all into other anime shows like Star Blazers, Battle of the Planets Voltron etc... and this fits that aesthetic. Also, the ending of Headmasters was much more satisfying, and definitive than The Rebirth. Even if Hasbro opted not to bring over Masterforce and Victory because of its wildly different tone, and too many non US toy characters (unless they would have brought them all over?) It would have been much better. Honestly it took us kids until *whenever* in 1988 that Transformers stopped airing Monday-Friday in syndication, and went to Sunday mornings with that Prime puppet before the reality set in that no new episodes would ever be made.

Admittedly overall it would probably have been looked at by the fandom as the season where "quality dropped off immensely", even more so than season 3 although that is objectively untrue. Personally I think the animation quality of Headmasters is far better than anything AKOM ever did. The stories would definitely need some messaging, and hey we would have had a domestic Raiden toy so sounds like another win ;) .

I've stated this several times. Headmasters-Victory are for ME the definitive seasons 4-6 of what started with the Marvel/Sunbow show. For years I wished Hasbro would return to this universe, but it seems they never will. The Devastation Video Game is probably the closest thing we will ever get. Also, since we have lost so many more talented members of that original cast in the past few years, I no longer what Hasbro to make the attempt. I've given up, time and indifference have lost the battle. Still I have the original 6 seasons, ;) and TF:TM I can still watch anytime I wish.

Yes, I though of it and realized Drift is not Prowl but Animated Prowl should be Drift.

My son really enjoyed those 1 steps funnily enough, he enjoyed having toys he could transform easy. Plus it was good enough for kids in the 80s  I'm all about expanding transformers so that all age groups have something to enjoy.

I still maintain that both Animated Prowl (the non-armored version) and Cybertron Ransack could be made as retools/engineering-reuses of Legacy Prime Arcee as long as they actually put the effort in. The majority of the bike kibble ends up in the same places for the three of them, and Legacy Arcee even copies it's arm transformation from Animated Prowl already. They'd just have to pull a Universe-Lambros so the bike front would be the chest instead of the back, and then retool from there.

I definetely see cybertron ransack, but prowl feels a little lazy. Still want a g1 prowl that turns into the action master motorcycle though.

Really? I honestly think Prowl makes the most sense of the 2, the mold already comes with the right weapon and all the kibble goes in the right spots except the torso being flipped. What do you find lazy about it?

RodimusPrimeUkraine1 wrote:Still want a g1 prowl that turns into the action master motorcycle though.
I think they're sticking to only doing Action Master updates that work as repaints of existing figures right now, like Jackpot and Slicer. That would be a cool concept though, in a What-If G2 Laser Cycle kinda way.

Really? I honestly think Prowl makes the most sense of the 2, the mold already comes with the right weapon and all the kibble goes in the right spots except the torso being flipped. What do you find lazy about it?

I think they're sticking to only doing Action Master updates that work as repaints of existing figures right now, like Jackpot and Slicer. That would be a cool concept though, in a What-If G2 Laser Cycle kinda way.
