Strategic decision by Takara to not show any photos of the back of this figure, as they did for Bumblebee... Is that just an oversight or deliberate because there is a hollow truck cab and butt-flap hanging off his back?

I'd say it's not really necessary. I'm never displaying my Magnus turned around. The kibble on the back doesn't urk me as long as it looks like its supposed to be there. With Bee...I think they chose to show 360 due to his size. Once I get U.M transformed and posed... I'm never moving him. Bee, on the other hand.... unlimited display scenarios ( mid cartwheel, twerkin, dead face dead ect)

I actually dig the red bumper. It's very 80's retro/future. I still wish they'd flip those red flaps on the trailer. I meant to add in my last post that the potential Victory Saber will be huge!

Good catch! Not that bad then, after all. In proportion with the overall blockiness of the figure, at least.

That IS Ultra Magnus and that's pretty much how he'll be posed (next to Optimus Prime, AKA MP-10) on my MP shelf.

I wish they could've done better with that flap. From the back it looks like he's wearing some of those old feety pajamas with the butt flap and he's about to take a dump. Maybe if that wasn't there he wouldn't look as blocky.

ive been feelin it too. the red bumper has really grown on me.

Need to revise the cab transformation/integration to be more compact in robot mode, so his sides are red and covered, there is no flap, and his waist can actually turn.

Otherwise this looks really good.

I wish it would, but I don't think so. So far, Amazon.jp and ToyTokyo Show, they only showed us the 2 regular eyes. It would be nice to have the aviator face as well because in some episodes and even the Marvel comic, UM was shown with the sunglass.

Also, if the pic where Kobayashi hold MP22 stand, we can expect UM to have a white w/ blue lower leg. So good bye red lower leg e.g.:

Seeing the face makes me sad about no inner robot...

MP Ultra Magnus seems to be returning (a bit) to the MP01 design aesthetic where extra little details are built-in to the design. I miss MPs having a little more die-cast, chrome wheels etc., rubber-tires (somewhat), and extra opening communication panels, & clear plastic car-lights. And as much as I like all the car-bots being in-scale (except Bumblebee-a little too small), I wish the line had been done at MP01 scale.
Anyway, I've seen in other pics that his butt-flap folds up a little bit more in bot-mode and doesn't look like a long shirt-tail. Well at least it has a real purpose as a roof panel for Spike & Daniel. It does look like MP Magnus has a neat little interior for the humans!

Agreed....I've have been fine seeing a white redo of MP Prime who could combine with his trailer. As it is, he's a cool figure, but a bit chunky.

Kind of weird that they retained the head with some references to the original Diaclone design (check the half face plate)

I wish Magnus' "amazon exclusive" accessory was a pair of tiny Constructicons that he could hold in his hands, like this:
