Its kind of like Basic Instinct, but not in a good way...
Goddammit, now I can't unsee it.

This mosaic is showing events that are a part of the ROTF backstory, as well as drawing parallels between characters in the movieverse and the G1 equivalent - in this case Jetfire and Starscream (shown in protoform). In G1 both were scientists that worked together exploring other worlds, just as is being shown here. In ROTF, Jetfire mentions that the Primes had the Seekers explore alien solar systems, but that they had to be uninhabited so that when they made the system's sun go supernova (to collect the resulting energon), no life would be lost. The Fallen became "The Fallen" when he violated this rule. The planet shown in this mosaic is Earth and that The Fallen has "fallen from grace" and Starscream has followed him. Jetfire still trusts Starscream, hence the "that was fast" comment without any further questioning. Starscream doesn't care whether or not the planet is inhabited - he now just follows the commands of the Fallen.
A second movieverse-G1 parallel is the concept of preparing a planet prior to harvesting energon. Some of the TF comics use a concept of the Cybertronians planting "seeds" to grow energon, which they can harvest later (see Spotlight: Shockwave). While the act of "sowing" a plant with energon is totally different, the concept is the same here. They are building the energon harvester that will be seen in ROTF.
For as simple as this mosaic seems, there is a lot going on here. My guess is that since this is only part one, we will see why Jetfire leaves the ranks of the Decepticons - most likely out of being disgusted with his "friend" Starscream's unethical behavior...just like in the G1 cartoon. I also think that this will lead into the battle shown in ROTF between The Fallen and his army and the other original Primes.
BTW - the final shot of 'Screamer during the opening of the space bridge, complete with his smirk and a more G1-esque look (due to the space bridge distortion) made this mosaic one of my favorites. Fantastic work as a whole, but that took the cake!!!
