Why do so many keep saying TR scrapped boxsets halfway through? There is absolutely no tangible evidence that there were ever going to be 4 boxsets. The thing Hasbro ever told us was that we would get the 4 ultimate power-up Titan Masters in a non-mass retail release, which was true.

We, the consumers/collectors, may have thought that 4 boxsets was going to happen because Combiner Wars allegedly set a precedent, but that is still hearsay.

All we know for certain is that many in the fandom, myself included, thought (wrongly) that 4 boxsets were coming, nothing more nothing less.

what about the fact that the clones were supposed to be part of a boxset which was cancelled?

1. The two boxsets that we got were Speed and Strength. Given that these were two of the four stats for Titans Return, it was reasonable to assume that two more sets were coming, and they would be themed after Intelligence and Fireblast.

2. Since Fastlane and Pounce came in two boxsets, people believed that the other two clones would come in two more boxsets.

3. The art on Grotusque's and Arcee's collector cards was in a different style than every other collector card in the line, with action poses instead of the floating head pose, and with other bots' limbs visible in the background (at least with Arcee).

4. Magnus's and Scorponok's Titan Master powers of Ultimate Intelligence and Ultimate Fireblast, respectively, line up well with Rodimus's and Thunderwing's Ultimate Speed Boost and Ultimate Strength boost.

Because of this, people speculate that the last two boxsets were cancelled because of the poor sales of the CW ones, and Cloudraker, Wingspan, Arcee, Magnus, Grotusque, and Scorponok were leftovers that were made into exclusives.

This, it all lines up perfectly, meaning there are 'unproduced' Titans Return Voyagers and Leader retools. My money is on a scrapped G2 Megatron in green and eggplant purple camouflage for one of the boxset, which would have matched the Laser Rod Optimus homage from the TR Octaone/Optimus Mold in G2 colors found in the Velocitron box.

And Godbomber could have been in one of the sets to go along with Magnus Prime.

I think a repaint of TR Galvatron, maybe with his original toy colors as "Galvatron II," would have been a good candidate for one of the boxsets, considering that mold got absolutely no reuses, not even retools, after the first wave of product in Titans Return.

If we don't get boxsets in Power of the Primes, maybe we can at least get a few "premium" special edition releases, a la Arcee and Grotusque last year in Titans Return? That would be a good way to put out a few more Female Autobots for the Elita Inf1nite combiner, some more Autobots in general for Firestormer (Inferno combiner) or even a few stray Decepticon jet characters for Megascream (Starscream combiner).

Maybe Dai Atlas from Black Shadow was a scrapped Leader-class figure? I doubt it, but it's fun to speculate.

I don't think that has been confirmed. Although PotP is ending at the end of 2018, there are still things we have not seen according to Warden & team.

He was talking about things that hadn't been officially announced at that time. Basically Inferno, Outback, and Cindersaur. There might be a wave 4 of Prime Masters, but I don't think there's anything else left aside from exclusives to reveal.

Wolfman Jake wrote:My biggest gripe with the alleged Wave 4 line-up is that the repeats seem so random. Why are we getting 2x Rippersnapper when we already got enough in Wave 2? No other Terrorcons are getting a rerelease. Blot, Sinnertwin, and Cutthroat are all getting packed 2x in Wave 3, but Rippersnapper gets another 2x packout later on? Why do we need twice as many Rippersnappers on shelves as any other deluxe sized Terrorcon toy? This is just bizarre.

They should have given that slot to Dreadwind since he's only in wave 1 while Blackwing is in wave 2 and 4. Having both Dreadwind and Blackwing in the same wave makes all the sense in the world. But then again we haven't seen any of the revision waves so maybe wave 4 will make more sense by then.

Flashwave wrote:It came from Wardwn at Toyfair.he said the size classes were different, but the most waves any of them had was 4. So could ne another Leader hiding for example, but we know the 4 waves of Deluxes

Unfortunately it was confirmed by Warden that Optimal Optimus is the last Leader in the line, no wave 4. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there were a revision wave 3 that swaps out Rodimus Prime with Rodimus Unicronus since as it stands only OO and RU are in one wave each otherwise.

Nicely done! Only one you missed was the planet theme. Since all of the box sets are based around a planet it had been long theorized that there would be a set based on the beast planet Eukaris, the perfect set for TM Scorponok, Legend Wingspan, and Grotusque. Who knows what the leftover Voyagers and Leaders would have been for the remaining sets, but I'd wager they exist in some phase of development between prototype and finished stock sitting in a warehouse somewhere. If anyone thinks that's impossible without it being leaked first then you've forgotten that Arcee and Grotusque were released the same day we first saw them.

My guess is, if the Eukaris/Animatron theory is correct: a repaint of Alpha Trion is a no-brainer, given his beast mode. However, with Six Shot (the only Leader-class mold with a beast mode) already use I can speculate that these planet themes would have been flimsy at best.

Yeah, people did speculate for a while that Hasbro would do their own Leo Prime out of Alpha Trion. But yeah, not all of the figures tend to fit the theme. I mean, Laser Prime doesn't strike me as all that fast in the Velocitron speed set and Pounce isn't the greatest fit in the Cybertron strength set (or very Cybertronian).

And it just occurred to me how terribly off topic we're getting and Burn is probably not going to be happy... I'm done. :-$

So, speculation related to this toyline: what if Power of the Primes was cut short by the combined factors of Transformers 5 doing worse than expected and the shelf-warming mess that are the current Star Wars figures, meaning Hasbro had to cut in places and Transformers Generations is what got the axe in content?

The toy line was planned out before the movie was even in theaters, so popularity's got nothing to do with it. Besides, even if that was the case, stores would just stop ordering, leaving the later figures to sit in the Hasbro Warehouses until who knows when...

... and that leads me into discussing an approach by Hasbro to combat so-called "tail-ender syndrome". We all know the later waves get ordered less, right? Well, rather than stick a lot of new figures in that last wave with the chance of them never hitting shelves, the last wave will only have 1 or 2 altogether with repacks as filler. They did that with Titans Return, we may see it with PotP as well. Sure, the line overall may feel shorter, but at least all of the planned toys would be out.

If tail-end waves sell less, then why put repacks in them and not make the wave entirely new figures, with the early/mid waves having the repacks? :-?

I'll tell you: people were not amused. At least at the end that damage would be limited, while avoiding damage of a rare tail-ender, so win-win?

Man, I should have listened to that twincast podcast earlier, the toy fair one. It answers a lot of our questions.

The main one being:

POTP ends with Wave 4 and it will indeed be a very light wave.

BUT, there are POTP exclusives that will come out later this year to help round out the line.

And yes, some people looking at the alendar see that it means POTP would end in late summer /early fall so maybe there could have been another wave. But what will happen is just that (like last year) the War for Cybertron toys could come early, filling that void at the end of the year.

One thing they could do is stop soliciting trilogies to stores as three different toy lines, but as a single line. For example War for Cybertron would be a single line with 12 waves as far as the solicitation to retailers is concerned, but every 4 waves the subtitle of the line changes. For example, going back the current trilogy:

Transformers Prime Wars: Combiner Wars
Transformers Prime Wars: Titans Return
Transformers Prime Wars: Power of the Primes

Maybe the basic look of the card would stay more or less the same (universal logos aren't unheard of in Transformers) with the Trilogy name, but the insert under the bubble would change to the appropriate story segment. Making WFC out to be a single line would do a lot to keep the figures on the pegs rather than dumped every 1 to 1.5 years.

If you think this wouldn't work then I'll remind you that they did this once with Generations before. Fall of Cybertron was designated "Series 1" and Thrilling 30 was "Series 2" with the wave count continuing between the two up to Deluxe wave 11. Of course that was during Archer's time at Hasbro, it's hard to say if Warden would go for such a thing. Then again they've been much more upfront about War for Cybertron being the name of a 3 year trilogy, as opposed to Prime Wars where we didn't even have a name until well into the line.

To be really honest, the thing I'm hoping for is that the exclusives to round out the line aren't like grotuesque was for me, I didn't even know about him until way past the ability to get him at retail cost. But having joined this site that should hopefully be allieviated heh. The fact that wave 4 is going to be a short-changed line sucks, but it doesn't dampen my mood overall for this series.

One of those set hopefully is a Prime Master 4-pack with Prima, Nexus, Amalgamous and Onyx with their shells. At least one is a retool of Cloudburst to take up Waverider, Onyx is a new mold, the other two are likely retools as well.

I just want to let people know that Amazon has been having some really good prices on PotP lately. This week I got Dreadwind for $13.54 (currently $12.57!), Jazz for $13.99 (currently $16.09, boo!) and Starscream for $19.66 (currently $19.42). Some other good prices: Beachcomber at $9.00, Scrapnel at $6.30, and Windcharger at $7.03, Micronus/Cloudburst at $4.50. Everything else sits between MSRP and absurdly overpriced (like Grimlock for $41.59).

And yes, some people looking at the alendar see that it means POTP would end in late summer /early fall so maybe there could have been another wave. But what will happen is just that (like last year) the War for Cybertron toys could come early, filling that void at the end of the year.

One of those set hopefully is a Prime Master 4-pack with Prima, Nexus, Amalgamous and Onyx with their shells. At least one is a retool of Cloudburst to take up Waverider, Onyx is a new mold, the other two are likely retools as well.

What if instead we get those last few Prime Masters paired with a "premium" deluxe class figure, a la Arcce with Ultra Magnus and Grotusque with Scorponok last year? I think that would honestly be ideal. We don't really need any more Voyager torsos or even leader class toys. But we do need the rest of the "13 Primes" and several more deluxe class limbs for some of the new combiner teams without full rosters. It would be a good way to get Greenlight and Lancer for Elita Inf1nite as well as a couple others, like Skywarp and Thundercracker (repaints of Unite Warriors Ghost Starscream) for Megascream.
