As has been the case for the past two weekends, Canada's Teletoon aired an all new episode of Transformers Prime today. This puts Teletoon three episodes ahead of the Hub, who won't be showing the "new" episode "TMI" until September 10th. Today's new episode is summarized below, spoiler warnings of course.

This episode departs from the previous two's synthetic energon plot and delves into the prophecy that was first mentioned in the season two trailer that was released last month.

"And it was written in the Covenant of Primus that when the 47 Spheres align a perpetual conflict will culminate upon a world forged from chaos..."

We learn that the planetary alignment mentioned above will focus on Earth and is a mere days away. Both factions are aware of the prophecy, but Megatron is much more dogmatic in his interpretation. We also learn that the Decepticons have been raiding various facilities to construct their Space Bridge 2.0, and only require an energy source.

Agent Fowler notifies our heroes that the Decepticons have initiated another raid to acquire the aforementioned energy source. Ratchet land bridges Prime, Bulkhead, and Acree to the scene. Bumblebee is taking Raf out to race is radio controlled car when he gets the call. Just as he is about to drop Raf off he is spotted by Megatron who is also on his way to the battle. Megatron opens fire and strikes Bumblebee several times. Bumblebee seems to only be stunned, but Raf is not so lucky.

Image

The Autobots are wrapping up the battle when Megatron arrives. He and Prime have their customary exchange of words, and Bumblebee walks up holding Raf's limb body in his hands. Prime immediately calls for a land bridge and Megatron makes off with the energy generator.

Back at the Autobot base Ratchet is monitoring Raf, but admits his lack of knowledge of human physiology and medicine are keeping him from helping Raf. He does however diagnose him with Dark Energon poisoning from Megagron's blast. Jack suggests they call in his mother who is a nurse, Ratchet reluctantly agrees.

Image

In the mean time Prime and Bulkhead are infiltrating the Decepticon ship. After dispatching a few drones they reclaim the generator and Prime sends Bulkhead back to base. He's come to the conclusion that he must destroy Megatron and wants a one on one battle. Prime fights his way to the control room of the ship and uses one of the beaten Decepticon drone's communicators to summon Megatron. Megatron however, isn't on the ship. He's off tracking down a mysterious volcano that he's been having visions of. Megatron feels he's been drawn to this volcano to build his new Space Bridge and harvest Dark Energon. He orders his Decipticons to stand down, and bring Prime to the volcano.

Image

Back at Autobot base Ratchet determines that even though Energon is devastating to humans the only way to fight the Dark Energon that has infected Raf is an infusion of regular Energon. Bumblebee donates some of his own Energon, and the transfusion is a success. Raf awakens and appears to be fine.

Image

At the volcano Meagron and Prime are set to square off. Prime seems more determined than ever to finally put an end to Megatron. They utter the iconic, "One shall stand, one shall fall" line and the battle begins. Prime quickly gets the better of Megatron and at one point uses the wheels on his leg to do a burn-out across Megatron's face temporarily blinding him. Prime extends his sword and prepares to deliver the death blow, but Megatron captures the blade between his palms and turns the tide.

Image

Now Megatron has the upper hand as the planetary alignment begins and the volcano starts to erupt. Megatron declares that all this time he was looking for planet Unicron it was here on Earth all along, as the volcano spews out Dark Energon. The episode ends here to be continued.............

I still don't understand the delay of Hasbro showing these on THEIR OWN NETWORK (The Hub). Way to boost ratings by making sure every one watches the episodes on another network or the internet. Hasbro's marketing genius at work, once again… :BANG_HEAD:

Episode 23 -

        ZOMG! ZOMG! It's starting with the season 2 promo trailer prophecy narration!!! Maybe now we'll finally find out what it all means!

Ratchet's mention of how Optimus was "different"before he was made a Prime is an understatement. Optimus, as Orion Pax, was a young dreamer with aspirations and ideals of his own. Now, he's a walking stoic who, while his spark may be in good nature, is almost completely uninteresting.

Though, Ratchet's comparison of Optimus to Jack is VERY on the mark. :o

The way Megatron is acting in this episode makes me think that this is the beginning of the season 1 finale arc.

Both Megatron and Bumblebee just fly/drive to the battle instead of Bridging themselves there. One question: Why? :?

 Is Raf... still functional?

Ah, wait, yes he is... barely.

Why do I get the suspicious feeling that Raf is going to undergo a sort... "reconstruction" (hint hint) in Ratchet's lab? ;)

It's the mysterious villain and his volcano! But I don't see any horns. So, non-Unicron options are still open.

Then again, maybe it really is Unicron, given Megatron's dialogue mere seconds later. Though, it's also possible that Megs could be mistaken, since he doesn't outright say that this villain is, without a doubt, Unicron. He could just be confusing this villain's face for that of Unicron, what with the similar beards and all.

Arcee is awesome as ever, calming Bee down.

Optimus: "Megatron must be destroyed!" - So much for wanting to reach any good left within in his brother. I dunno, maybe Exiles will provide further look into Megatron's decent into darkness.

The cursed "One shall stand, one shall fall" line is repeated here AGAIN! Come up with more original ultimatum, PLEASE!

While impressive, I sadly find the Prime/Megs battle to be quite unengaging for two reasons. One, I'm more concerned about what's gonna happen to Raf. And two, I'm MUCH more interested in that volcano that's connected to the new villain. I mean, this fight is just delaying the revelation of that volcano's nature. I wanna what its deal is!

I see a potential toy redeco in Megatron's purple glowing state.

Okay, so that volcano is full of Dark Energon. One question: Why? :?

TO BE CONTINUED... yet still a very good episode.

Love the show of ratchet's emotions here as well.
As far as optimus being like jack? Yeah, I can picture that.

BTW, That bot we saw in the teaser, you don't think that, after megatron goes into the volcano, he comes out as Galvatron, do you? That would be SWEET!
Also, I hope Screamer makes an appearence next episode. I'm suffering from withdrawel....

Wow another Fantastic episode :D The fight between prime and Megatron was really tense and choreographed to a tea. I must also say that I loved Megatron's expressions in this ep. Makes we want to get his toy now too. This is the first time I've actually liked Megatron in any medium, and that's saying something :-?

you have a compelling argument there sir, but as to WHO he is? Scourge, Galvatron? I mean, He's seeing the future, and seeing through Unicron's eyes. Maybe he sees what unicron will make of him? Galvatron would be cool. Long stretch, but what if?
Only time will tell, and who knows, that could be another bot ENTIRELY so....Let's just hope we get to get this treat again next week, with a little starscream sauce on the side, hmm?

Nearly everyone's saying that that guy IS Unicron (I don't want it to be, but all signs point to it being him). Megs isn't just "seeing the future", he's also "hear[ing] Unicron's thoughts". They're associating that face with Unicron.

Re: Transformers Prime Episode 23 Summary

Postby iaconportland » Mon Aug 22, 2011 3:02 pm

That...was...incredible. What a cliffhanger!

To paraphrase DOTM Sentinel Prime: "What Bay destroyed can be rebuilt, but only if we give Orci and Kurtzmann enough room to do their job correctly..."

The number of episodes before Prime finally agrees that Megatron must be destroyed was just enough time to build Prime up as a compassionate but stoic leader who only resorts to pursuing a violent end to this conflict as a last resort.

And what a battle! Back and forth, dramatic, action-packed, everything you want in a fight scene. Quite frankly this was the type of battle that should have ended the live-action series.

Unlike the movies, Orci and Kurtzmann have focused on the real driving force behind the Autobot-Decepticon conflict: Optimus Prime vs. Megatron. The great thing about this show is that each character has been given enough time to develop an interesting side story to that rivalry - the relationship between the 'Bots and the humans, Ratchet's continuing struggle to understand the human race, Starscream's treacherous pursuit of leadership, Arcee's tough exterior being softened by her genuine compassion for Jack and the loss of two of her comrades, I could go on and on. But it's great to see it all come back to Prime vs. Megatron.

Which brings me to the topic of Frank Welker and Peter Cullen absolutely nailing their performances in this episode. Cullen's somber, serious Prime is a lot more enjoyable and gives this Prime a deeper character than G1 Prime. And Welker has taken Megatron to new heights of maniacal evil.

And how about that plot twist at the end! I'm not familiar with any of the Unicron Trilogy or other Japanese versions of the franchise but I'm pretty sure I've never heard of Earth being Unicron's secret identity. I'm anxious to see where they go with this. Where there's Unicron, there has to be Primus, after all...

The show was indeed more visually stunning than anything I can describe with words. The look on Bumblebee's face when he is carrying Raf is heartbreaking, while the visage of Optimus is more steely and cold than in previous episodes, especially when confronted with the reality that he must extinguish Megatron's spark for good...the animation is just incredible from start to finish (esp the fight scene between Megs and Prime...WOW...)

I could go on and on but I'll stop here. This series is fast becoming my favorite version of all time.

Hrm, it definitely seems like this episode is hinting at Unicron being Earth. I'll be slagged if that face isn't his considering the coloration, but it does lack the horns. Part of me just doesn't like the idea of him being Earth, not from a plot perspective, but a character design one. He has a pretty iconic look, even in his planet form. And then there's the matter of a toy being made of Unicron that turns into Earth, which probably wouldn't sit well with a lot of people, myself included.

Perhaps Earth is one of the tainted worlds that were mentioned in the Ultimate Guide? It would explain the Dark Energon at the least...

I'll take it this episode also debunks that fan theory that Raf might be some sort of android or robot. Part of me did think he might have gotten possessed by Unicron or something when they mentioned the Dark Energon, though, or even zombified. But then again, I doubt they'd kill off a human kid, for obvious reasons.

I keep getting the feeling that Prime's going to die in the next episode. Even though it might be a little early in the series for that, it seems like all signs point to it. Well, best to get it done ahead of time. It's bound to happen sooner or later after all.

Like pretty much everyone else, I absolutely loved this episode. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and I'm just begging for more of it at this point.

Now THIS is Transformers as it should be. Epic battles, good foreshadowing, nicely unfolding plot, and characters' actions and decisions that actually MAKE SENSE!

And most of all, kudos to them for keeping the human soldiers out of the fights. I'm glad Orci and Kurtzman realize humans can never take on giant transforming robots head on and hope to win...or survive.

Can't wait for the second part of this!

Several humans have defeated Transformers on their own.

Victor Drath and Old Snake/Cobra Commander rendered Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Springer, and Arcee without their bodies (putting them in weaker human bodies instead).

The G.I. Joe Team killed Bumblebee.

Serpentor killed Dirge.

Circuit Breaker alone disabled many Transformers and completely fried Unicron!!!

Meltdown could kill a Transformer with a single (prolonged) touch.

And so on and so forth.

Honestly, I don't read TF comics, or comics in general.

But in view of the examples you've shown me, I guess I'll rephrase it this way: There's no way generic human soldiers can defeat a Transformer head on. My real beef is with the way a dinky bunch of tanks and a single squadron of jets can take out an army of TF's in the movies.

I do, however, like how the humans used covert tactics to take down Decepticons in DOTM.

The first example comes from the G1 cartoon.

another cartoon-only example would be when Lord Chumley successfully bested, captured, and disabled (but kept alive for bargaining) Tracks, Bumblebee, Jazz, Beachcomber, Grapple, Blaster, and Inferno.

When the G.I. Joe team took out Bumblebee, they didn't use any special weapons, but standard (of the time) military armaments.

Just goes to show that puny fleshlings can be capable against the bots.
