Will, I think RhA is talking about Star Convoy- this sucker is an almost dead on match
Ha! Thanks! Though I think there is a more dead on match for star convoy with this following RID Optimus:
Aside from the aesthetic comparions to Starconvoy, this version can interact with other smaller figures and ...happen to be Japan exclusive. That's even more like Star Convoy

Distribution is so much all over the place that I wouldnt use local anecdotal sightings as clear evidence. In my toysrus, there is so damn much of combiner wars but the RID one step stuff is selling out quick. There are no more Hyperchange Optimus figures, they all sold out, and they had a truckload. Here is the entire TF section, with very very few RID figures left.
Also, while the Hasbro figures may still be available online, on Takara's side of things it's completely different. Preorders for the Takara RID figures (called TAV) sell out in less than a day while the preorder Combiner Wars counterparts at the very same discount are still available to preorder after months of being online and available.
Here's an example of when their version of Drift came out. Shajaki gave us this amazing post the day he was available:

S'ok. I was trying to be funny
and get across frustration
I saw the pre-order notice on the boards here while I was at work, and thought "meh, I can wait till tonight when I get home from work". BUT NO. They're gone. S'not a big deal though, I'll just snap up HLJ's pre-order whenever it pops up.
