I think the whole "no noses" thing does kinda make sense. They're robots, so they don't need to smell. Plus, it makes them look a little more "alien".

If thats the case, then how would you explain Bumblebee's eyebrows... :???:

It helps him make expressions.

Eyebrows are expressive, they can be used to make a character emote. Noses, not so much.

I can see your point, but for 30 years transformers have expressed themselves just fine without eyebrows. I dont see a point in adding them now.

Anyone that has been reading my comments can tell I am not a fan of the oversimplification of this line. While I do hold some hope that there will be an actual line with detailed and more complex transformers, with the warrior class becoming similar to AOE's Fast Action Battlers, I would never bet on it.

That said, if this is all we get in terms of complexity, I think I might slowly warm to it. I really like that Drift, and though the simple design means he isn't as sleek, what they do with the kibble is very interesting. And they still kept the samurai detail on his legs and his hands are more defined than many of the others.

While for the other warriors, I was wondering why they looked so familiar, and then it hit me:

Image

Prime Kup and Ironhide were also very simple transformers with hands that were stuck to the kibble, with kibble full legs and pegged wheels. And yet, those figures are not that bad. They aren't my favourites of the line, but I can live with them. They had great personality and were fun to transform. So I am expecting a similar experience from this line.

AND, the warrior class grimlock appears to be a straight up homage to the original grimlock toy due to that simpler transformation.

Those arent eyebrows on BW dinobot, thats part of his visor. Im not sure if those eyebrows on G1 cyclonus are a rare screen clip. For the record, as a kid I never approved of the addition of mustaches and beards on post 1986 characters so im not suprised you found an example from that era of G1. The only eyebrows im seeing tons of examples are on movie and bay inspired post 2007 cartoony crap. Ans since its the post bay era that im complaining about, anything from animated, tf prime, rescue bots or the movies themselves are a bad example. Eyebrows are too human and look silly on robots in my opinion. If you like em, so be it. But that doesnt prove that the addition of them on dozens of characters since 2007 was warrented to make cartoons any better. If it was littly johnny with a history of 10 posts attacking the eybrows, would you go through the trouble of trying to debunk him too ? Or is it because Rated X said it ? :-?

It's a style, and lots of people like it. That's it. You don't like it? That's fine. But they shouldn't be restricted to a set style that a particular group of fans like. I mean, it must be fairly popular or else they wouldn't keep using it.

Also, it's easier to animate I imagine.

Yeah, I understand doing a stylized fresh take for a show or series. They alternate between realistic and animated, so it's not a big deal to me.

Sadly, some of the things I DO care about keep getting monkeyed with. I wish they'd stick to their guns on what color dudes are (grimlock) and if people have faceplates (Prime, Grimlock, etc.). Those are important things to loyal fans. I care a LOT less about noses and eyebrows.

Wait, we are still talking about noses and eyebrows?

I am more curious about what you guys think about the actual toys. What I dont get is that so far in all of the most recent animated series (cybertron, Animated, Prime) the toys were made to reflect what the characters looked like on screen. Or more specifically (especially with Cybertron) the characters on screen were made to look just like the toys. So what's with this line where the simpler design makes the toy and screen character quite different in appearance? Steeljaw and Strong arm have this giant back kibble for instance.

Oh and I just noticed by looking at the transformation scheme illustrated in the back of bumblebee's box that he transforms just like the Prime Vehicon, albeit a little simpler with the legs.

Well it's more been a thing since Beast Wars season 2 with the character models being made to look like the toys (with Beast Machines being a notable exception due to some miscommunication between the toys and CG models being designed independently of each other), with RID 2001, Armada, Energon, and Cybertron (as well as the Japanese-only Beast Wars II, Beast Wars Neo, and Go!) having their toys made first and then the character models being directly based on the toys (in Cybertron's case, sometimes right down to even having the screw holes included in the CG models).

Starting with the movies, however, the design strategy switched to first having the character models made, and then having the toy designs being based on the character models. This was done for the first three movies, Animated, WFC, Prime (pre-Beast Hunters), and FOC.

But starting with Prime Beast Hunters, Hasbro switched back to the older method of making new toys first, and then having the character models (like for Predaking, Optimus, Darksteel, and Skylynx) being based on the toys. Though, the character models for these four (and especially for Darksteel and Skylynx) took more liberties with their designs than sticking closely to the look of the toys.

But as for why the most recent installments of AOE and RID 2015 have toys that look sorta like the character models but not as close as past installments, the way I see it, it's because of Hasbro's recent desire to simplify the complexity of the toys so as to make them easier and less frsutrating to transform and play with. And, perhaps, maybe they just don't feel as committed to making the toys and character models as closely match each other as they used to. After all, this is a different design team from before, whose first TF toy creations were the 2014 simplified Beast Hunters Deluxe and Voyager toys. But, we have seen that they are capable of maintaining a fair level of advanced designs, as evidenced by all the cool stuff they've made in the current Generations Thilling 30 line, as well as the Generations Combiner Wars toys coming next year. So I guess they just feel that the target demographic for the new RID line--big kids--won't care as much about toy/media synchronization as we older fans do, and so possibly put more effort into the Generations line us than they put into the RID line for kids.

Don't quote me on this, as it's all just a guess.

Well, when the first RID toyline came out in 2001, those toys didn't have on-package bios either. Instead, their bios were hosted on Hasbro.com.

Yeah, but at the same time most bios are kinda crap. Basically "He's the best guy EVER!" over and over; grab another figure just to see if maybe, just maybe he's a little more interesting but nope, yet another "best guy EVER!"
And then sometimes the toy's bio doesn't even fit with the show's (see: Knock Out) and you wonder why you even bothered reading it since you've already been "sold" on the character anyways.
