Do G1 fans really hurt you that much?
It's all well and good wanting new material in the Transformers world, heaven knows there is enough of it. But this is only speculation and wishful thinking.

Hurt? O_o...where did that come from? Heck no!
There's nothing wrong with speculation or wishful thinking, but this is just excessive. It's just a constant barrage of "GEEWUN"
I (and quite a few others) are sick and tired of G1. It had it's time in the spotlight, it was groundbreaking and fun, but it's clearly outdated, the new movie has taken the story and made it leaps and bounds better, etc.
No one uses their imagination anymore. No one tries to find something new. Nods are fine, nods are neat. However, "New package, same product" wears thin. Quick.

But why get on someone's back about it? The way it was worded was as if you didn't want it to be spoken of anymore. That would alienate a lot of people, myself included, who like to talk about how G1 characters could fit into a re-imagined world. It doesn't leave our capacity for imagination in a state of retardation. =/

He is entitled to his opinion ...
It probably wouldn't be so bad if "GeeWunners" (which I could be considered a part of) didn't have the stereotype of close minded gits who are opposed to anything different in their precious TF universe.
Yeah yeah, not all are like that, duh, I know. However a small group of GeeWunners are and they've made it embarrassing for the rest.
Not only that, people are hanging on to some comment Don Murphy made before the movie had begun shooting, that whole "it will be based on G1" thing.
That turned out to be nothing but crap. Yet people are still holding on to that one little sentence and not accepting that this a re-imaging of TF's for the modern era.

On the flip side, a lot of the anti G1 crowd like to barge into discussions and blurt out "This isn't G1. Shut up and get over it."
It can be quite disheartening. I would like to establish a happy medium for both camps regardless of extreme opinions. There is no need to incite that kind of animosity.

I don't hold animosity towards the G1 fans. That's craziness. I don't like the same things they do, so I mustn't like them? That's crazy talk.
Just because I don't agree with them on a topic, most certainly doesn't mean I must dislike them, etc.
See, that's the problem I've run into a lot, not just on here but anywhere you find TF fans.
Once you talk to the people on the messenger about other topics, life in general, you come to see they're okay people on both sides and you feel like a prick for having been so angry in your opposition.
It takes two to tango here, and Burn got it right.
And I never said your imagination was retarded by G1. I'm saying people aren't using their imaginations. At all. I know you've got plenty of ideas and theories, new ones that could really shake things up, but it's easier to play it safe and rest on G1's laurels.
I don't like the designs for TF:A at all (that's why I won't watch the cartoon or buy the toys) but I have to admit, the twist they put on the show? Heck yes! That's a terrific idea! A nice, fresh reboot!
Even Beast Wars/Beast Machines had a G1 tie-in, but it went above and beyond that, so many times. It won a friggin' Emmy!
That's what I'm talking about when I say let go of G1. Give it it's due respect, give those fanwank nods (they're fun!) but depending on it so heavily for ideas? Come on...
See here's the thing...the A/E/C trilogy basically wasn't like G1 at all. Oh sure they had a hidden base in a mountain in Armada, and they scoured the planet for Energon in Energon, and yes, they had some figures that were a homage to their G1 counterparts, but beyond that...it was all new, all fresh, different ideas, different takes. Granted, those G1 touches held a lot of weight in this fandom, but the rest of it was enough to break out of the G1 mold for me.
I think the movie accomplished that just fine. It had it's nods, but above all, it was fresh. A reboot. You got the same characters you know and love, but they've been updated, their cause is different, etc. And it still worked!
I'm not asking anyone to give up G1, in fact, the guy that quit the fandom and collecting because there wasn't anything for G1 left (which he was wrong) is further proof that G1 fans carry it too far. He quit the whole shooting match because they don't cater directly to his needs anymore. (They cater to everyone's at this point)
That's ridiculous, that's pushing it too far. Why kick G1 to the curb along with the rest of it? Seriously....I just don't get that kind of fanaticism. If it was a real life concern making you quit, okay. Quitting because of all of this? Come on. That's just digging your heels in and fighting just because you can.
No one's forcing the GEEWUNNERS to embrace the new stuff, but we shouldn't be forced to have the new stuff GEEWUNNED for them either.
You're right, we need to find a common ground and I don't think it's going to happen.

This all reminds me of the "TOS/TNS" debate on Battlestar Galactica boards. There are still TOS only fans who passionately hate the new show because it's not "TOS".

Don't hold your breath for any of that.
I know you think they can be modernized, and while I can see it, I hope you are aware of the unnecessary changes they made to the big name characters:
Spike is now Sam, but looks the same, but wrong additude.
Carly is now trashy slutty hot juvie record Mikaela.
Sparkplug is now Ron, but he has the right personality.
There is now a Mom, but she's an alcky for hell's sake.
There is no way in all existance that those bit part G1 characters are going to make it, modernized or not.
Oh and let's not forget useless as all get out add on characters like Glenn and Maggie. Damn that was stupid.
In other words, pipe dream. It's over. Finito.
But Lord Chumley was cool.
Dude calm down on this guy. he's just wandering outloud is all. I wonder if Mikaila will actuall end up with Sam or not. If I did TF2 I'd have Mikaila go on to work for some mechanic company and have Sam earn his nickname of Spike and envolve his dad in the adventure, and they nickname him Sparkplug. Mom and Mojo run off to rehab together.
Carly could be played by an intelligent yet equally hot chick like Piper Perabo and actually Carly was very smart in the show. That'd be pretty fun.
I can smell them letting the dad in on this because he and Sam are a VERY close father and son pair. I bet they will at least do that much and envolve "ron".
Now I am only dreaming here, but if they do change the names to their nicknames from G1, that would REALLY rock. And I dont see ANY problem revamping any other humans from G1 either. Flint and Morrisa would be HIGHLY probable and would give a GREAT escuse to do a GI-JOE movie... REVENUE BABY!

I think your being a little unfair here to those of us who are G-1 fans and who would like a little bit of the nod to be quite bigger.
Yes there is a certain amount of G-1 in the movie, there is a basis... hence Sam Witwicky, and the whole Bumblebee relationship... Megatron VS. Optimus and their banter at the end of the movie, that was very much G-1, there were no additional kids, like in the A/E/C trilogy.. so the story veered off a little for a more updated version of the concept..
But to say that you don't want a G-1 villain in the movie, and that you want more of imagination involved, well.. I didn't mean that the new Villain had to be the exact Dr. Arkeville from the G-1 cartoon, but if he was a villain who had either a cybernetic arm made of the Transformers technology and was a renowned scientist, who actually resurrects Megatron but cuts a deal with Starscream, that would be an interesting story line to see done in the new live action setting.. I mean it's not all about G-1 and it has to be this way or the highway for me, it's more about giving us a good story, which I feel Dr. Arkeville is a good character to revamp and bring into the movies..
