I'm glad they made him smaller too, it helps keep the scale consistent.
Consistent to what? Its not like he ever has to fight ROTF Megatron.
Well, he’s shorter in the new movie than he is in the others, so making him shorter will help him scale better with guys like Dropkick who are deluxes but are presumably bigger than Bee.
But then they could simply make dropkick bigger to scale better with a decently sized bumblebee toy.
I really see no reason for Bee to be so much smaller here.

Yeah, I still think Dropkick should be a bit bigger considering he turns into a cobra helicopter, but making VW Bee shorter than 76 Camaro Bee is screen accurate, so I’m ok with it.

The entire Studio Series line, short of Grimlock, is set to Hasbro's imaginary 1/whatever scale and all of the figures are scaled to it. It doesn't matter if VW Bee doesn't appear next to other characters from the other movies, he's still expected to abide by that same scale. If this were just a standard movie line then you're right, there's no reason for one to be smaller than the other, but in a line where bot scale is important VW Bee is going to be shorter than Camaro Bee just like they would be should they be standing next to each other in the movie. The scale works across all movies, not just contained within each movie.
I'd wager if they hadn't made this figure smaller then there's be just as many sticklers complaining about the figure being too big than there are complaining about it being too small now.

Because they want the scale to be consistent across the line, so that even if characters have never interacted with each other (like, say, Starscream and Lockdown), they can be in-scale with each other.

Hey, that's my mod, glad you like it.
(I posted it here too.) Try coloring the arm that holds the wing section black, helps hide it.
