They finally give us a movie Opitmus Prime in the Studio Series with the yellow fade on the front of the truck cab nose, but they forget to paint the abs silver and instead make the clear windshield opaque with silver paint!? Who is making these decisions!? Well, I guess you can still stick the alternate abs piece from Jetfire on there for more "accuracy" to first two films, but that still doesn't fix that fact that they painted the clear plastic windows for no good reason.

Personally I'm annoyed that they seem to have gone back to that weird shade of red that turned off so many people from the first SS Voyager Optimus Prime. Replace this guy with with the better Voyager version and then stick him with Jetfire so the red is complemented by the black and his abs get covered.

I'm hoping the red looks better with this mold and whatever tones its grey and blue are. I plan on replacing my current Voyager with this one, due in no small part to the orange fade they finally added.

Huh, I didn't know he was coming with the blaster. And I wish he came with the first voyagers swords, I was hoping for those blades for my regular Prime.

Oh well, glad he has another weapon though! He looks good!

I do hope this Devastator is quadrupedal like in the movie. The old Supreme class toy from 2009 was bipedal and looked really silly.

I'll probably still get him, but they did make some weird choices here. I like that they threw in his gun that we didn't see in the earlier pics, but its the gun from the first two movies and not the tri-barreled gun he used in DotM. They didn't paint the abs, but they did paint over the windows that were clear on the prior versions of this mold. Every picture shows him holding the big flight blasters on top of his hands, even though they're hollow at the bottom and look like they could have easily been designed to slide down and cover his arms like in the movie.

They aren't huge nitpicks, like I said, I still want him, just some odd choices going on here.

He's have to be quadruped, he's got the weight of 2 Leaders (Overload, Scavenger) and a Voyager (Mixmaster) in his torso alone! Comparing that to regular 5- or 6-member CW gestalts, the torso section is, by my estimates, relatively at least twice as heavy as normal.

He's designed like a gorilla, gorilla's can function on two legs, and look equally silly; it's more about utility than aesthetic;

Food for thought: I just tried out Rampage's leg mode: it's tall as a Deluxe in robot mode counting the flap. Devie's gonna be mahoosive indeed

Rampage's arms are somewhat needlessly complex for this mode at first sight, but after a while I see the reasoning why, it's to have every piece end up where they should and have the treads in a more pleasing orientation. The tread and hand twists I will admit are clever, the tabbing in of every piece, eh...

He's a wonderful figure with a premium paint job, an awesome head, playability with the TR line and PotP line, and the transformation is one of the best in the modern few years of toys.

My brother and I would have loved this figure so much if her shoulders wouldn’t pop off with the slightest touch (her kibble was fixable, but her shoulders weren’t)

She really needs a Jet toy. This one is so subpar, it needed to be much better in many ways. Which is sad, cause I love the 60-70s muscle cars, so getting one like this that has a shagged robot mode is really sad

Got Sideswipe the other day, and he’s great! Super accurate, great silver paint, and I still can’t believe he comes with guns and swords.

It doesn’t look like his front wheels are capable of rolling due to those bits that help him stand in robot mode, I may look into some modding in addition to some paint apps. Still really happy with him regardless!

My foray into the studio series Deluxes begins with these three.



I picked up all three yesterday, and I've gotta say, I'm very impressed with each of them.



Jazz is by far and away the standout figure. So much detail and fun packed into such a tiny little guy. His transformation is pretty clever, and he's so posable! Plus, this is the most paint I think I've seen in a long while. Jazz is great, and I'm super pleased with him.

Bumblebee unfortunately, is less good, but still a nice figure, and I'm glad I have him. I seem to have got unlucky with him because the roof is a nightmare, and falls off if I look at it incorrectly. He's basically a parts former for me as it's so much easier to just snap the roof in at the end when I transform him. His transformation was a little tricky at first, but now I've figured out how to get the bonnet down without forcing it, it feels a lot better. If both his modes weren't as great I'd have more of a problem with him, but as it stands, they aren't, and I don't.

Shadow Raider pretty neat too. I like him more than Bumblebee, but not as much as Jazz. I love his alt mode though. That shade of orange is like my favourite colour for the Aventador irl so it was meant to be! Honestly, the orange is such a nice colour in general for this figure. It helps break up all the balck and grey, and contrasts beautifully with the green mask. My only disappointment is he's not quite as articulated as I'd like, but again I can over look it.

Overall, I'm far more taken with the studio series than I thought I'd be. I genuinely thought I'd stick with the SS05 I got off ebay, but hey, here we are.

As an aside, these three look fantastic together.

So, after the first 6 waves of Studio Series, I want to know what all of your favorites have been. So here's how I want to try approaching this:

1) Give me your top 3 favorite figures of the line
2) Give me your favorite figure from the 3 size classes
3) Give me your biggest disappointment of the line so far
4) Give me your top 3 figures you want to see the line give us that it hasn't already/has been confirmed to be giving us

Feel free to provide explanations too!

I'll start:

1) Jazz, Rampage, Bonecrusher - All 3 are just so fun
2) Jazz, Rampage, Grimlock - Same as above, but Grimlock is less finnicky than the other Leaders, and I don't have any sort of tabbing issues with them, and he's gorgeous
3) Shatter - She is so limited in posing and has many floppy parts. She needs a better toy
4) I want to see Dino, Armored Leadfoot, and Leader Infernocus - the first 2 need deluxe toys to complete some lineups, and Infernocus needs a good toy, and a giant leader with 5 to 7 small bots in it that make a big beefy bot is what I want.
