I know the figure was released years ago, but does anyone know if the faceplateless SS-05 variant mentioned here: https://news.tfw2005.com/2018/05/07/tra ... ges-363449 is actually a thing or just a stolen sample/sneaky custom? Because that thread is literally the only relevant thing that comes up when I google about it.

Also, Sideswipe and Soundwave have been added to the customs thread!

While I do like Soundwave, I would really like an upgrade kit that gives him his weapons and some chest pieces to plug into the grill.

Given that the price for an SS Devy boxset would come out in the neighborhood of $300 (making such a set unlikely in the first place), doing him in anything less than super screen-accurate deco with as detailed a paintjob as possible? Would be a no-go.

The reason that SS does not have many G1 redecos is because the line is (mostly) dedicated to the robots that appeared in the movies. There have only been 3 real figures (ones that are not a repaint of BB) released that did not show up in the movies. As much as I would love them to revisit some of the non movie characters from the ROTF toyline (lugnet, highbrow, any other WW2 ones), I want them to finish off the main 5 movie cast first.

I don't remember the exact wording from the statements made about the figure but SS Thundercracker pretty much only exists because of the deal made with Toys R Us to make him as an exclusive, I remember there being something on how TC was designed as he might of potentially appeared if he was in the movies hence the more Spider-like head rather then a G1 Seeker head design.

His toy bio is also ambiguous enough that he might of actually been in DOTM (off screen of course) as one of the many Decepticons who came from the moon, so there is some leeway there.

As unlikely as it may be, I'd really like to see that. Bump it up to a voyager, make the satellite mode more elaborate like the movie, and throw in Ravage. Since a lot of the mass would be solar panels, he could still condense to a roughly deluxe-height figure.

Considering he is a regular release with active pre-orders, that ship sailed long ago.

He's probably about the same size as the DOTM deluxe, the size issue really comes in satellite mode. Now, in relation to other figures it's probably alright (you could sit him up above other figures and use some forced perspective to make it look like he's farther away), but the satellite mode is missing a lot of the depth and scale that the movie model has- I think it might be the relative size of Soundwave's head in relation to the satellite.

That being said, I am kinda tempted to get one to keep in Satellite mode, because that's an awesome take on Soundwave's communications role (And I get nostalgia for the ROTF game where you can see him orbiting earth on the menu).

I think it was two because we see the shot of him launching Ravage and then I thought he showed up later to call some Decepticon support? Also, if we're talking about how to make it more accurate, he'd need to come with a sattelite that he'd attach to cause he didn't really transform into the whole thing if I recall correctly

It's maybe a little shorter than the SS DOTM body, when Soundwave's ROTF body is actually closer to Ironhide in size. On top of that, the solar panels are too short, there's no sign of his tentacles, and he's missing the armored shrouding for his head that can be seen when his satellite mode is swooping around (although it's absent when he's talking).

You don't recall correctly. He transformed into a complete Cybertronian satellite - and in fact never actually assumed his full robot mode.


The separate satellite was an Earth satellite that he latched onto and hacked into with tentacles.

Technically the KSI sentries had multiple colors, at least going by the concept art (and I think in the movie too). Of course, the Studio Series toy is still wrong because it's a Stinger headswap redeco (the movie sentries turned into Chevy Traxes and were referred to as Traxes until Studio series gave them the "KSI Sentry" moniker).
