Agreed. A repaint of Blaster's gun does NOT cut it. Soundwave's hand-held gun is iconic. Maybe Takara will fix it in post, lol.

Nope! Sorry, not feeling that Soundwave or Blaster. Just the wrong size and overall blockiness and ... just not feeling it.

I know Classic collectors overall are jumping on the leader class bandwagon for the cons - and CW Megatron is a great argument for that - I'm just not feeling it. Gonna stick with FoC Soundwave and Label Blaster.

Blurr is very .... blue. Very, very blue. Gonna wait to see what Takara has in store.

This Blurr as Elieta-1? Not Elieta enough. Sure, in vehicle mode it'd fit, but it doesn't look remotely like her in robot mode.

Soundwave takes TWO AA batteries. One will not do. He needs his shoulder canon AND his hand-held canon/harpoon launcher thingy.

Yeah, I know, but ...

It's the gigantic speakers that turn into equally gigantic lower legs. There's blocky with style and then there's just two humongous squares at the sides of a teeny tiny middle portion.

And his chest cover just sticks right out. I dislked that in G1 SoundBlaster and it's even worse here.

And then you have his shoulder pads and lower arms which, while G1 SW had them, are just so pronounced here.

Am I being too harsh?

I think it ultimately comes down to proportions and mass. Hear me out:

The G1-accurate cassette deck is basically all torso. The robot mode of the classic toy is fine for the time, but if a figure came out with those proportions in 2016, so many tables would get flipped that the combined force would slow the Earth's rotation.

If Soundwave is to have limbs properly sized to his torso, he either needs large speakers on the sides (this and Titanium) or the back of a vehicle (WFC/FoC).

I guess what I'm trying to say is, we either give up a proper robot or a proper alt-mode (or we get MP-level complexity and pay for it accordingly).

Not our fault there are traitors and screamers here causing trouble. My screen was so blocked by smoke I couldn't even see what I was responding to!

But now that screamer seems to have backed off on the fire starters, I can tell you that something about Soundwaves boombox mode is clicking for me. it feels some sort of unique that I am liking

Hopefully, he won't be hard to find in brick-and-mortar stores like the Masterpiece Soundwave. My TRU hardly has any good TFs anyway.

There's no way the masterpiece gun will fit. This new Soundwave seems to have a 5mm circular gun handle. The masterpiece has a rectangular handle. That's really not a viable option for replacement.

I wonder how IDW is going to weave the headmaster gimmick into their storyline? Galvatron for instance is not Megatron unlike the G1 anime. So somewhere along the way, both entities will merge?

Man, this line keeps getting me more and more hyped. I'll be mail ordering many of these to ensure I get them vs. Store hunting. That can be fun and all, but not always a guarantee.

At first this Blurr kind of had me /meh ..but the more I look the more I like him. They are doing a good job at retaining G1 designs while maintaining the form and function of modern figures looking good in both modes. Bring em on!! Can't wait.

With a few tiny exceptions, I just can't see how this will be storied in. Hardhead is dead, Skullkruncher is a comedian, all the regular headmasters are on the lost light and there is no intent to do another crossover in the near future. IDK man

TT is going to fix SW's weapon for the JP release.
