Triggerhappy......heavy retool of either Highbrow or Brainstorm
Breakaway.....obviously just a repaint of Chromedome(albeit probably with a new TM head! if it's not just the same one)
Sinnertwin......looks like a heavy retool of a Deluxe CW figure? hmmm...prob either Alpha Bravo or one of the other Arielbots or something![]()
Hot Rod......again! looks like a heavy retool of a CW figure.....my guess.....someone like the Ironhide/Trailbreaker mold
I honestly can't tell if you're joking or not, but only Breakaway is derived from any previous mold. The others are completely new.
Nah...c'mon! are you trying to tell me that Triggerhappy doesn't look like he's been retooled from Highbrow? or even Brainstorm?
Stuartmaximus wrote:with Twinferno.....you can tell by the molding of the torso it certainly looks like it's been retooled from someone like Alpha Bravo
with Hot Rod it's around the arms & legs....deffo looks to me like the retooled arms & legs from the CW Ironhide/Trailbreaker mold.

... well, if you aren't joking, then I suppose this means one of two things. Either that you really need to go back to bed and get a lot more sleep, or you must be congratulated for somehow achieving a higher sense of cynicism about Hasbro and mold re-use than Ironhidesh.
Seriously, go back and look at the toys you're comparing them to. They hold nothing in common aside from... I guess a few shapes in places, alt-modes and a bipedal body structure? At which point we might as well say CW Hook is a retool of Cybertron Mudflap.

The titan's return figures seem, so far to have very few tells as to the whether or not their retools of each other. So far going off of the few TR figures out, the most sure fire way of seeing what's a retool and what's not is by looking what hasn't been retooled. Chromedome, Blurr, Brainstorm, and Getaway are all retools/pretools of each other, the few notable similar parts are the central chest assembly, the gun, and the Headmaster. Highbrow and scourge share the same waist assembly and headmaster man that's about it. I think there's a certain point where the pretool is it's own figure; Blurr and chromedome, Scourge and Highbrow being the best example of how separate the pretools are.

The Blurr and Chromedome molds are completely separate. They only share certain parts and weapons - as you stated. That's not retooling, that's parts-sharing; a rather new phenomenon that is very far removed from the very nature and concept of retooling.
Scourge and Highbrow, arguably, are simply shared engineering rather than a retool.

Too be fair those parts are exactly the same, it not like an energon Starscream G2 smokescreen situation.

Twinferno is clearly an entirely original mold. None of the aerialbots transform like that.

Kurona wrote:Also, bit of a note about the names - Blowpipe and Firedrive are obviously the same as G1 (Firedrive just being the oh-no-we-lost-the-copyright version of Firebolt), but Daburu and Throttle are new.
Getaway's Powermaster partner in G1 was called Rev... but what makes this name change notable is that Throttle was the name of one of the two Decepticon Powermasters; Darkwind. I'm tempted to say it's a bit like how 'Nightstick' was thrown onto pretty much every single Targetmaster a few years back just because they couldn't go around scrambling for copyrighted names for Targetmaster partners, but this one is especially notable considering Getaway's... recent morally dubious antics.
Daburu is basically Japanese for double. Not sure where the randomly using Japanese words for guys now comes from - especially since Doublecross barely had a few cameos in Headmasters - but I like it!

【DABURU ダブる】
You can probably tell from its sound, but this katakana word is taken from the English word “double.” It differs in that in Japanese, it’s used only as a verb, but its meaning is also derived from the English word. In Japanese, it has the meaning of “to compound” or “to duplicate” and has a negative tone.
Kind of like when you say someone has double billed you for a single item.
