Wouldnt it make more sense if Soundwave was repainted as Soundblaster rather than the Blaster? Because Soundblaster is a redeco of Soundwave.

He's a great item to be sure; but he's deluxe which doesn't quite scale well (he should either be Voyager or Universe Cyclonus-size Deluxe), and he of course costs a fortune so it's not the most viable option.

Even though I would like it I highly doubt we'll get soundblaster and twincast seeing as Hasbro named and Takara colored Soundwave and blasters headmasters as their rebuilt counterparts already.

I know it's unfeasible for this mold because it's a Leader, but we are long overdue for a retool of Soundwave/Blaster as Mainframe.

So, as many of you know from my totally not humble brag, I got TR PMOP for 20$. And you know, as with Leader Starscream (which I also got for the same price), I would not have spent more and I am glad I didn’t. My favourite size class has always been the deluxe. Aside from movie toys, complexity is usually he same across size classes, like how Cybertron Scouts are as complex as Cybertron Leaders. And while the complexity was the same, a smaller size always made the transformation feel more impressive and involved since there was that extra minutia aspect. But at least then, a leader would have extra stuff, like more gimmicks and interactivity that deluxes couldn’t provide. But with Titans Return, the deluxe already has all that playability with 2 places for your titan master to sit and a bunch more for his to stand, you could have as fun a titan master party with a deluxe than with a leader. The only difference is the size.

The good thing about this PMOP is that I didn’t know where to start with his transformation, I don’t use instructions. That’s a good thing, because it means that he didn’t feel overly familiar even though he shares the same engineering and transformation as Magnus. He did feel new. Still, he also felt very light and the plastic didn’t feel great. And there are some odd choices like how his hips cant stand symmetrically. Also, there is this really odd bit with his lower legs in alt mode. You can see how they should fit together like jigsaw pieces but they cant due to them being too far away. It looks like crap and feels like people gave up somewhere.



Also, that base mode reminds me of that bowel movement I had this morning.

Seriously though, I keep wanting to get pmop, but between my experiences with cw magnus, and all these small revelations of just how crap the figure seems, I can't seem to justify paying more than $10 for this - which I know will never happen here

Looks like the designer didn't measure something right when designing those back pieces.

I still haven't gotten PMOP yet. He's on my undecided list, but stuff like this sure doesn't sell me on him.

Not only is it not measured correctly, the pieces weren't even cut correctly to interlock even if they had been measured correctly - just like cw swindle and hound

the hood or hood strut was shortened at some point (possibly in the running change to add the hound shoulder cannon feature to swindle) and the vehicle mode is forcibly scrunched when transformed





The worst part is that it screws with his legs mode too

What I recomend is that you wait for them to reveal the boxset containing this toy. Lik that you can fully assess if the boxset is worth the wait to buy it at a discount or not (since i assume it will be quite expensive). And if you dont think its worth it then at least by waiting till then the price for PMOP will probably have dropped someplace and you can pricematch it Or you know, never own the mold. Having this toy in hand I would not suggest paying more than 20$ for him.

A weapon is a weapon and an engine is an engine. Optimus prime wasn't always a powermaster. I didn't get Getaway as a kid for the gimmick. I didn't get PM Optimus Prime for the gimmick either, my original Prime had seen much better days and needed a replacement. But the original headmasters were introduced as requiring the head to be separate so I'm kinda stuck on that (yes I know the powermasters required the engine but fingers).

Would I have liked Hasbro to do targetmasters and powermasters? Sure. I loved what was done in Super-God Masterforce. But I see why Hasbro decided to stick with one gimmick across the entire line, and I think it works pretty well.

As for the original Headmasters, I never got into the IDW fiction and I don't know why the decision was made not to have headmasters. As I subscribe to the Japanese canon I think IDW could reveal the original four as Headmasters at any time if they wanted to. They could even stick with the Hasbro canon and pull a reveal of Ultra Magnus proportions. (Is that still considered a spoiler?) Unless something in the character backgrounds would prevent this revelation?

I haven't actually read this story arc myself but it is my understanding that Headmaster technology in IDW was introduced very controversially in-series and it seems like we'd know if Brainstorm and Chromedome were HMs.

Isnt it just Infinitus who is a Titan Master?

Just Infinitus and Sovereign that are known to be Titan Masters so far.
And of those, Sovereign wasn't even part of Alpha Trion.

But yeah, so far, only Titans Return and part of a flashback have had Headmasters in IDW.

The fact that Titans Return includes pretenders already means it wont be that. It also covers targetmasters and bases.

I am thinking maybe it will be animals.

To be fair, Sky Shadow could just be a pretool for Thunderwing to be a possible Pretender line Wave 1 leader much like what Ultra Magnus was for PM OP.
But yeah generally, I don't think we'd ever get pretenders again. As someone else brought up, in this day and age of standardized size classes, a deluxe inner robot would be laughably small. Plus there's just not enough characters from that era that are popular enough - Thunderwing, Bludgeon, Carnivac and Catilla and that's about it. Doesn't help that most of those are Decepticons when Hasbro prefers to have Autobot-dominated lines these days. You've just got no star power. There'll be some who know Chromedome and Brainstorm and Skullcruncher thanks to Headmasters and IDW, but anything after 1987 tends to be too obscure to do outside of the few characters that managed to be popular like Nightbeat or the ones that later got accompanying fiction to put them in the spotlight like Getaway. Or already-popular characters that got badass upgrades like Powermaster Optimus Prime. You could release any obscure version of Optimus Prime and it'd sell because it's Optimus Prime. Bring on the G2 Hero!S
But I digress; there's just no appeal in making the whole line about one of the most obscure parts of Transformers.


And yeah, Beasts to me is more likely. Big players like the Dinobots and the Predacons are yet to actually get new toys that represent them (aside from the couple of times Grimlock got lucky which... actually weren't that lucky).

I wish Hasbro would dub Japan G1 The Headmasters, Super-God Masterforce (just Masterforce?) and Victory. I'm apathetic to Zone but they may as well dub that too. It would be nice to hear Cullen and Welker voice Optimus Prime and Galvatron in a G1 cartoon again. It's also an easy (read cheap) way to expand the G1 animated story and support future toy lines.

Based on the rumors we've seen for toy releases I'm also thinking the next theme will be beast based. I'd love to see the Dinobots finally get some Generations love. My thinking would be:

Leader

Brachiosaurus - Sludge/Slog

Voyager

Tyrannosaurus - Grimlock, Dinobot? (a little big, but...)

Spinosaurus - Scorn/Spike, Megatron?

Deluxe

Triceratops - Slag/Slug

Stegosaurus - Snarl

Pteranodon - Swoop/Strafe/Ptero, Terrorsaur

Legends

Velociraptor - Slash, Dinobot (so small)

That's what makes sense to me. The Triceratops and Stegosaurus could share engineering as one transforms the reverse of the other.

I very highly doubt Sludge would get a leader-class mold.
