I actually did that a while back! With CW Devastator instead of G1 though, so of course hilarious scale issues abound even more so than in the original scene (somehow...). To paraphrase my old post since there's no way I'd be able to find it now:

For the few TR voyagers that I tried, Astrotrain is definitely the better.

Alphatrion is fun, but imperfect. Broadside is crap, Megatron is crap (plain and that turret under the jet, ugh...) And Galvatron is... just OK. I never owned the Lazer Prime mold but I may soon have Octone so we will see.

So I finally got around to putting together my Titan's Return super bases this weekend and finally got around to sharing the photos here.

I have all the Hasbro base mode figures so far except for Overlord, including Skater Prime and added Takara Godbomber as well. I actually made 2 separate Super bases, 1 for the Autobots and one for the Decepticons. I also placed every deluxe and voyager titan master on the bases in their TM compatible guns. This was actually pretty difficult for the Autobots because there are so many, and the only usable base mode 5mm holes on the 3 Prime bases are used up by the guns or skate rail. I also have all the individual Titan Masters scattered about on their vehicles. For reference, I have the entire Titans Return line except for Ramhorn, the wave 5 deluxes, Slugslinger and Overlord.

For the Autobots, I was able to form a ring from the side of the 2 arms/runways that looks like a pretty good battle encampment

For the Decepticons, I offset the only 3 base modes I have to one side and used one of Sixshots wings as a sort of gate for one of Trypticon's side ramps. Whenever I get Overlord, I'll probably balance things out with 2 Leaders on each side, but this works for now.

I'm also toying with pushing them together for a mega city like below, but only a little better.

In my headcanon I'm actually going to make Skater Prime into Powermaster Nemesis Prime using a few toyhax Decepticon logos that I have and some imagination of course. I'm also working on a way to get Metroplex into things, so maybe I'll have something else to share in another day or 2.

Still look a bit messy, but separating the :BOT: from the :CON: is the right call because the :BOT: have more red and the :CON: have more purple. Making the bases a bit more consistent.

Nice setups, kev! And nice to see separate Autobot and Decepticon mashups. Also kinda goes to show that the despite the quantity seen there the Autobots kinda got shortchanged when it comes to TR bases. Powermaster Optimus Prime's base mode is not exactly great, especially in the the official configuration, and two of those are just different versions of him that weren't regular retail. "Quickswitch" was a set exclusive, and his "base mode" is just one of his vehicle modes being linked up as a base, though it does have some functionality at least. Godbomber's base mode is decent but he's a Japan-exclusive import. That just leaves Blaster, the one regular retail Leader-class Autobot other than PMOP and the only one designed with a base mode from the start (and as a result, has a good base mode). The Decepticons meanwhile have Soundwave (who has essentially the same good base mode as Blaster), Sky Shadow (again, has a decent base mode due to being designed with one from the start), Overlord (who as Sky Shadow's moldmate has a similar yet distinct base mode and again it's decent), plus Sixshot (whom "Quickswitch" was redecoed from).

TF-fan kev777 wrote:and the only usable base mode 5mm holes on the 3 Prime bases are used up by the guns or skate rail.

Yeah, that mold is decidedly 5mm port deficient (especially in the official base mode) for a Titans Return Leader-class figure. I actually drilled an additional port into each of his forearms on mine.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, Kev! It looks cool now, so I can't wait to see what it'll be like with another Titan in the mix.
* * *

Voyager talk? I think I ranked the Voyagers molds a while back but I didn't quite have every base mold at that point (I was missing Prime/Octone) so I may as well have another crack at it now. Brace yourselves, this is gonna get long - as if it could end up any other way with me at the wheel.

My least favorite is, in all honesty, Alpha Trion. I know, crucify me now D-Max. His robot mode is lovely and the deco work is beautiful (probably the best of the line!) but neither of his alternate modes do it for me and he just doesn't feel very... fun, to me. Not a bad figure I suppose, but he's still the one I enjoy messing with the least, only narrowly beaten out by...

Broadside. I guess these share-buddies just don't have the best luck. Much like A3 I looove Broady's robot mode (though IMO it works way better when thought of as a super-huge Deluxe than as a proper Voyager), and unlike Alpha I also quite like one of his alternate modes. I shouldn't need to say which one, I'm sure. His jet mode is absolutely worse than either of A3's alt-modes, but one good and one awful mode just slightly outdoes two 'meh' modes in my books. I might also think differently if I hadn't swapped his tail-fins over to point the "right" way, but hey, my list my rules or whatever.

[Here's where Galvatron would have been if I wasn't an incompetent airhead incapable of keeping track of which toys I even own  . For my specific opinions on the figure just see Zelda's post below; he pretty summarizes my exact thoughts with his own, and does so in a more accurate manner than I could have done, honestly.]

Astrotrain. He's good! ...And there's not really much else I have to say on him. Shuttle and train modes both work well and the conservation of kibble between modes is also really impressive, but something about his robot mode especially just doesn't feel very... dynamic? I always end up just standing him up straight because he doesn't seem to call out for anything more interesting, and that's a shame for such an otherwise competent figure. And now as we enter the top three, things get a lot closer...

Megatron. I love this guy. He is the definitive Megatron for my collection (I like my leaders to be Voyagers, somewhat ironically) and is just an all-round fun toy! There are only two reasons that he's at number three instead of higher up: one is that his deco is (while character-accurate) a little less interesting than #1 and 2, and the fact that I didn't want to have two of the same mold taking both of the top spots. (His cannon isn't fantastic either, but I don't mind it much myself. I think the grand total of Megatron - and Galvatron - toys whose cannons haven't been janky in some way is... like, two, maybe? And that's probably being generous.) Of course that second reason gives away the rankings of the last two, but shh let's pretend we don't know yet.

Octone, of course, takes the number two spot - though honestly you could absolutely switch him with Megs and I wouldn't complain. He's fun and dynamic in robot mode, adequate in truck mode (if a little small-feeling thanks to the integrated trailer) and his plane mode is so much better than the one on the Optimus version of this mold. Admittedly I don't have that version, but I don't think I need to in order to make that particular judgement. The larger wings do sooo much for plane and robot mode alike, the huge rifle is insanely fun to have him hold (even if it has nowhere to go in either alt-mode :( ), and the honestly incredible boost in general 'good-ness' since his last Generations-style toy is just the icing on the cake.

And #1 of course, no drumroll because everyone already knows, is Blitzwing! I can hardly quantify how much I love this guy. The colors are... mwah! The transformation is... mwah! Every mode (with the possible exception of the tank depending on your tastes, though I love it myself) is... mwah! I would be remiss not to mention the QC issues this guy seems to experience (not least the legs not quite tabbing in at first), but they don't bother me somehow and - in what must be a very rare case - the issues seem to improve greatly over time. And the purple face does obscure a lot of that well-sculpted facial detail, but like Broadside earlier, I'm more considering the silver-faced one I Sharpied up myself since it's such a simple change to make. Everything Megatron does right, Blitz does better, with the possible exception of coherent deco in tank mode (though again I'd say that's a trade-off for the beautiful colors this guy sports) - even the placement of those terrible-awful-bad-quality foil stickers means they don't peel quite as badly on this one! The possibilities to differentiate him from Megatron are amazingly varied, and putting Blitz in the classic "Spread wings tank-barrel-backpack tailfin-feet" configuration works wonders. Did I mention you can even fold away the feet entirely and have him just stand on his tailfins like the G1 toy? Because you totally can, if that's your thing. I'm sure I've gone on enough about this guy now, but I will say that I honestly can't recommend him enough, even if you already have Megatron. Unless you're one of those killjoys who hated the Megatron mold, but then you're objectively wrong anyway so. [-(

And man, that'll do it I guess. Sure was long, wasn't it? I did warn you. Hopefully there's some interesting information or thoughts buried in there somewhere; I honestly can't even remember what I wrote at this point so I just hope it's all coherent

Not long enough because you kinda forgot somebody. The one guy who isn't mold buddies with anyone. Galvatron.

He's actually the only TR Voyager I currently own, and I really like him. The spring-loaded mask does admittedly limit head articulation (mostly due to the length of the pin where the spring is. If that could be safely shortened..) and doesn't quite mesh flushl with the face sculpt, but it doesn't bother me too much and on the plus side it perfectly nails the shape of his cartoon crown and chinstrap. His self-propelled cannon mode is impacted a little bit by the split-A stance molded into just about everyone from Deluxe-upward in TR meaning his legs don't mesh on the underside, but again it's something that doesn't really bug me. The cannon mode points up by default now (as it did in the movie), but unlike the original toy the design allows for angle adjustment. In robot mode his cannon is a bit awkward due to its sheer size but not unmanageably so. And unlike the original toy he can actually point it straight ahead. The jet mode, or perhaps starfighter mode, is decent enough in my opinion. I think it's a clever repurposing of the cannon mode's rear support and a decent replacement for the original almost-never-used third mode of a raygun. Speaking of, it's not too hard to fanmode him into said gun mode (though of course the handle doesn't lock into position or anything).

AAAARRRRRRGH I knew I messed up somewhere. The whole time I was writing that entire thing, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was forgetting someone

What you've got there is pretty much my exact thoughts on the figure: Not at all perfect but definitely far from bad. For reference I'd put him right in between Broadside and Astrotrain (and have edited my previous post to do just that  ) since IMO he's a more enjoyable toy than the bottom two but still seems to suffer from the same lack of dynamicism that Astrotrain got hit with. Points also for providing a Generations-style Voyager Galvatron that stays quite true to previous iconic incarnations and is also a good toy; a hat trick so apparently impressive, that most previous Galvatrons have often had trouble even nailing two of those things down at once.

Since we're on Voyagers, I'm throw my 2 cents in. I have all of them except for the regular release of OP because I have Lazer Prime. To be honest, my least and most favorite were easy to pick, but pretty much everyone else is bunched into 2 tiers in the middle. So, staring from least to best:

Least Favorite
Sentinel Prime - Decent modes all around, but a fairly lazy redeco, but I do give Hasbro some points for going orange on the deco. Not to many orange bots out there, so it does help the overall color pallet.

Lower Middle Tier
Galvatron - Good cannon and robot modes, okay spaceship mode. Not sure why, but something about the figure just doesn't speak to me like most of the rest.

Broadside - Great robot and carrier modes. Laughable jet mode, which I never use. Really wish the fake shoulder carrier kibble was actually used in the carrier mode.

Alpha Trion - Great Robot mode and sculpting, good lion mode, meh space carrier mode.

Upper Middle Tier
Astrotrain - He makes the upper tier mainly because of nostalgia, he was the only triple changer I had as a kid. Solid modes all around and great kibble integration.

Megatron - Very solid figure, love all 3 modes. for me, also having the leader and loving the leader Megs probably holds this one down a little for me.

Lazer Prime - Great figure, love all 3 modes, event he jet mode with the stickers. This is one where the stickers actually help make the figure for me.

Tidal Wave - Same comments as Broadside, except for 2 things. 1) he was never a triple changer, so I can ignore the jet mode completely. 2) the deco is top notch, even with the stickers.

Blitzwing - See Megatron above, except in this case, having the Thrilling 30 figure probably elevated Blitzwing a little.

And for the best, that leaves Octone. Honestly the only thing going against him are the trademark issues with his original name. The figure is great in all 3 modes. It is amazing what a difference the wings make on both the jet and robot mode.

Also, for whomever was having trouble with storing his guns on truck or jet mode, they attach easily to the 5mm ports on the side of the tanker/fuselage, or you can plug his rifle onto the top of his TM seat gun and put them both on one side or the other. I actually love with TM seat gun because of the extra 5MM port on top. I can take Octone and Lazer Primes TM seat guns and a 3rd from another figure and make a triple decker gun turret for the bases.

I actually enjoy the seat gimmick of TR guns, but having guns that look like the originals (especially when they were in pairs like that) is still nice.

I wish the company doing these guns would also do Hot Rod's Photon Lasers and Kup's Musket Laser. Especially the Musket Laser since A. TR Hot Rod's stock guns at least have some resemblance to one of his original Photon Lasers and B. POTP Rodimus is going to come with G1-based Photon Lasers anyway so...

Love the pics Thanks for sharing ;)^

Well I finally got a Trypticon. Exactly 13 months from the day I got Fort Max last year, and from the same TRU on the outer fringes as opposed to the one right in my neighborhood. What's odd is that this TRU had them behind the counter *saved* for someone else. Unfortunately I don't have adequate space to build the city I want to yet, and still don't have Overlord, so it will be some time.

Has anyone actually seen a Trypticon on the shelf at their local TRU? It seems like they are trickling in and supply is not meeting demand yet whereas at this time last year Fort Max was readily in stock. Again I'm not going to go into panic mode, especially since I have it now, but it seems the trend of producing fewer Decepticons than Autobots is continuing. Also Hasbro is probably producing far fewer of these because while I'm sure they did not take a loss on Fort Max, they don't want to "clearance" them out at a lower cost either.

I just don't see Trypticon as going on sale for $100 around the holiday like Fort Max did...I could be wrong and if I am, then I'll be glad...but at this point I don't see it.

My local TRU (zip 92562) has had Typticon in stock.

So because of these two posts, I just picked up Galvatron on eBay (under $20)....

I've seen him 3-4 times in the various TRU's I hunt at during lunch at work, or around the home. In fact one of them had Trypticon right next to a Fort Max that they still haven't clearanced (TRU is terrible at clearancing things in the US).

Edit: I should have added this is in the suburbs of Chicago.

Nice. Mine has somewhat loose hips but I still love the figure. And I think the flight mode is a nice bonus. ;)^

I got Broadside last night and wow. I am honestly amazed with this figure. I don't know why, but I love the jet mode. Something about it just pushes all the right buttons for me. And the tiny Aerialbots are awesome. I wish Has/Tak would include stuff like that, maybe a tiny Revenge (Galvatron's ship) for the next time we get a Unicron figure. This definitely seals the deal on the Siege on Cybertron set. I need that Tidal Wave.

Are you talking about the Voyager class Broadside that comes with Blunderbuss? You mentioned the Aerialbots next; and for all I know, Hasbro could've done a team of those with different names than the ones they did for G1 Aerialbots. If you're talking about the Voyager class Broadside that comes with Blunderbuss, I like the aircraft carrier even though the jet mode probably looks awesome.

Is there any other Broadsides in the Titans Return line?

Why yes there's Broadside, the invisible Decepticon figure that you could only get if you promised Unicron your first-born at SDCC. I got one off eBay and it was awesome. But now I can't find it...

And yes, I was talking about Voyager Broadside.

Amusingly enough this would actually explain why Blunderbuss is listed as a Decepticon TM on that one Trypticon cereal box from SDCC :P

Thanks for the advice! ;)^ I was more talking along the lines that I felt like his guns didn't look good stored on the alt-modes, rather than an inability to find anywhere to physically put them, but I might have to give some of those options a second chance! I tend to dump the seat-guns as a matter of course but I agree that Octone's one is pretty good-looking, so I guess I'll see what I can find by incorporating it into some of the configurations.

I didn't know about any at the time that I asked; but he didn't say it was that Broadside that he got in that post; but since he mentioned the Aerialbots, I wasn't sure what he was talking about. Are there Aerialbots in the TR line?
