Did you try triple A's?
Also, I see a positive and a negative sign on the cover, thus ruling out watch batteries...

Yeah, could be a 9v batt. There only seem to be electrical contacts at one end, which would rule out AAs, AAAs, etc.

OK, It is a 9V! However it still is not working

The battery is in correctly. This black "cover" is holding the grip together even after the screws were taken out. I have got to undo/unhook these tabs, which is what I really need help with at this stage

Looks like you should just be able to push down on the tabs and pull the black piece off.

ALL FIXED!!!

The battery just wasn't touching one of the connectors. Thanks to everyone who helped me out!!!
