I learned from my mom that you can't actually turn one hair color into another instantly. Brown hair tends to turn red when attempting to turn it blond, for example.

Use bleach, that's you best bet. If it's too light, use something to darken it.

I don't know what that something is. I've never colored my hair before. (I've always been a sort of dark blond.)
