I saw this discussed on the Transformers subreddit the other day and thought it would be fun to discuss here:
What is your ideal lineup for each faction (seven members each)?
My picks:
Autobots:
- Optimus Prime (The classic "strong enough to be gentle" take)
- Jetfire (Armada-inspired second-in-command)
- Prowl (IDW-inspired morally-gray tactician)
- Wheeljack (G1-inspired mad scientist)
- Ratchet (Animated-inspired medic/old-timer)
- Hot Shot (Armada-inspired Inexperienced and hotheaded Autobot. Could be replaced with an Animated-inspired Bumblebee)
- Grimlock (FOC-inspired tough guy)
Decepticons:
- Megatron (Somewhere between Animated and IDW, revolutionary turned ruthless military commander)
- Starscream (Prime-inspired, treacherous but cunning enough to cover his tracks)
- Soundwave (G1-inspired, Fiercly loyal communications officer)
- Shockwave (IDW-inspired, mad scientist pursuing his own interests, aligned with the Decepticons not out of loyalty but because their goals align)
- Thundercracker (Inspired by Armada Starscream, duty-bound honorable warrior that is loyal but doesn't always agree with his comrades morally)
- Skywarp (A soldier at heart. Not evil, but willing to do whatever his commanders ask, regardless of morality)
- Tidal Wave (Armada-inspired, strong, loyall, and dumb. Could be replaced with Animated-inspired Lugnut)

I was playing around with this exact same idea, but my lineup was confined strictly to the G1 comics so far. I haven't given it any broader thought yet.
Optimus Prime
Grimlock
Fort Max
Ultra Magnus
Ratchet
Jetfire
Blaster
Megatron
Shockwave
Scorponok
Straxus
Ratbat
Starscream
Soundwave
My list is based on what I think should be the ranking hierarchy in command, especially with the Cons.

I haven't read the G1 comics, but it's interesting to see Ratbat that high up, above Starscream and Soundwave. Is his characterization pretty different in the comics?

Yes. In the comics he wasn't 1 of Soundwave's minions. He was a high ranking Decepticon commander. He was on equal rank with Scorponok, but Scorponok shot him in the back and killed him so that's why I ranked him higher. Plus Ratbat was still a cassette, so he wasn't physically intimidating. I never knew why he got as high in rank as he did.#1 Signal Lancer fan wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:Megatron
