I think that a Marvel Legends type line would actually be very successful it done well.

The Mega SCF figures weren't done very well, even for the time and that is why they failed.

Someone mentioned that the smaller PVCs were as failure as well and that isn't correct. They were actually very successful in the beginning. I remember some of the earlier ones fetching $30 a piece on the secondary market which isn't bad for a 2 inch toy. The chase figures fetched a nice price as well...up to $75-100 in some cases. The fact that they lasted for about 9-10 waves means they must have done alright. When they were brought over to the U.S though they didn't do so well because of bad distribution (they were mostly sold at Meijer's and Walgreens)and a high price ($5 for a single figure).

I have actually bought the Galvatron kit mentioned in this thread and am having it professionally painted and assembled as we speak. I have waited a long time for a G1 cartoon accurate Galvatron and I am super excited that I will finally have one.

I am also planning to buy that Hot Rod statue. It will look really nice standing next to my Metalforce Optimus Prime.

If Hasbro created a 6-7 inch line of articulated cartoon accurate G1 figures then I would jump for joy. I have a HUGE collection of transforming toys. However, what I lack in that collection are cartoon accurate portrayals of my favorite characters. I would gladly sacrifice the ability to transform for the chance to own the characters in the way I have always envisioned them.

...Of course I used to LIKE the Actionmasters line so take my opinion with that in mind

I don't transform my toys much, and I keep mostly everything in bot mode for display, so I would purchase them (if they were characters I liked).

They would have to have amazing sculpt detail and amazing paint jobs to make up for the fact that they can't transform, though.

Wow!! it's nice to see one of my posts come back from hiatus.. interesting it's the posable figures thread.. the Dai atlas toy which is quite larger then the revoltechs is a nice figure indeed.. though still smaller then the Marvel legends sized toys that i had envisioned.. to those who own the Galvatron kit, it's a nice piece, but it's unpainted and a Model as well, so the plastic isn't as tough as a toy, and a paitn application having to be applied is cool for the ability to do it yourself or customize, but an action figure line is more of a homage to the Bot then anything else..

Transformation is key to the toylines, but a character toys line is what a nontransformable would be..

Motto: "Know your enemy, then crush them."
Weapon: Gatling Cannon
Sadly I think Hasbro would screw this up.

I'm a big time Marvel Legend collector, and when they took over the license it became really hit or miss. One of the biggest problems with the line now are the paint apps, or lack thereof.

I think the foray into poseable non-transformable figures, the Robot Replicas, show how they would handle such an idea :(

If they made something more like the Revoltech, Soul of Chogokin or even the older Mega SCF lines, then it might work.

If it was targeted at the specialty market (and thus a higher per figure price), something like this may work out better.

I'd buy a non-transforming, Marvel Legends articulated style Transformer. Assuming it was done well and there wasn't an excess of obvious joints. Basically a cartoon accurate representation of the characters. To bring up Marvel Legends again, I'd like if such a line managed to bring out some of the more obscure characters (relatively speaking) like Marvel did.

Obviously there'd be Prime, Megs, Rod and Galvatron. Starscream too I have no doubt. Op and Rodimus could get repaints (Ultra Magnus/Hate Plague Prime and a "Crystal Rodimus" Matrix-y redeco for him?) along with the required by law or the world will end "nearly complete group" of Seeker repaints. But I think this would be the perfect way to make characters with no alt modes. Alpha Trion, various Quintessons, heck Nightbird if they want. A few articulated Pretenders in their shells wouldn't go amiss either (I'm looking at you, Bludgeon and Carnivac). There were more than a few characters who just rarely seemed to bother transforming that I'd happily pick up in this sort of line. I think Grimlock forgot he had a robot mode in season 3 and Wreck Gar must have had a bad experience with one of the heavier Autobots trying to take him for a ride as I don't think he was a motorbike again after the movie. Ironhide and Ratchet would be welcome to, as with anyone who had such a similarly different cartoon model compared to the toy.

Have them at around deluxe size (or maybe a little bigger for some of them) and maybe pack in the odd extra accessory or human sized character (Spike with Bumblebee? Dr. Archeville? Even Rumble and Frenzy) or whatever, and maybe even go down the route of giving them a pack-in comic or dvd/cd-rom? They could easily sell to collectors for the price of a couple of deluxes, IMO.

Of course, as has been noted, Hasbro did manage to screw up the Marvel Legends line, and hasn't really done a great job of non-transformable Transformers recently either. I wouldn't know about the little PVCs, as cool as they looked, as somehow the majority of them didn't show up here at all. I do have one or 2 of the Japanese releases but the Hasbro ones? Well, if you don't know why the Brits are Disgruntled you're luckier than I.

So, in short, it's a yes from me.
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

well consider a cool marvel legends style figure of this guy:

with tons of posability in a versus pack

with this guy:

as a marvel legends style figure set.. that would be awesome!!! ;)^

and for a super kicker they could have a really accurate Ultra Magnus and Kup figure as well.. =P~

Or a build a gestalt figure pieces, or a Power Master Prime Giant build a figure with pieces of him in the packs.. the possabilities are just too awesome to fathom!!!! :HALUC:

Perhaps even more so than the Galvatron, that Hot Rod has perfect sculpting. He looks exactly they way he should be. They nailed it. If there was a poseable action figure of that Hot Rod with decent articulation, I think it would sell really well. Since Transformers have seen a sharp increase in popularity due to the movie, I think the fandom would be able to support such a line.

I really like the idea of each wave featuring a few main characters and a few side characters. A build-a-figure concept would add incentive to collect them all. Wouldn't it be nice to build a 12 inch Devastator after collecting a wave of 6-inch figures? Really, if you look at the way Takara did the different waves for the original pvcs, it was kinda similar to that.

Hot Rod looks pretty good. But obviously out of proportion with the vehicle mode.
